Dude, this is unbelievable. I literally was typing "best city overhau.." when I saw this video in the recommended.
Tip: If Brynjolf annoys you about joining the Thieves Guild and you don't want to, or just not right now, it's really easy to shut him up by standing near the blacksmith until you see him coming, then start using the blacksmith. He'll come up and do his normal spiel, but after the first try or two, he completely gives up for the rest of the game, unless you go talk to him.
This also stops the Thieves Guild questline from starting automatically if he does give you his spiel like normal.
I played Skyrim religiously (pun intended) since it launched, only recently coming back and doing a mod list…this forbidden knowledge is underrated, thank you
I would love to see you make a second video about the remaining "Great Cities." Perhaps a third even on the minor settlements like Karswarthen and Rorikstead.
I might need a short break of city/location mod videos but that is indeed the plan! 😅
Completely agree about trees in cities, sure actual historic northern villages wouldn't have had them, but they also wouldn't have had bard colleges or embassies nearby or a whole bunch of other things that no one complains about because they're fun. We're going for historically inspired, not historically accurate, and it's 100% lore friendly to have cities that said "hey, they look nice and people need shade, let's plant some trees inside city walls".
Exactly... we should always remember that the main goal of a videogame is to have fun, and that is relative to individual taste.

“Solitude Docks” is similar to JK’s Outskirts _but_ alive. I love JKs stuff, but his Solitude and Markarth outskirts are _dead_. No people. No shops. “Solitude Docks” is the best thing going right now. Original by AssyMcGee, but has some updates now by other authors. The reason to use “Solitude Docks” over JKs is the same reason you chose GG’s outskirts over JK’s at Markarth. (Use “Solitude Docks” w BJS Solitude Exterior to add buildings near Katla’s Farm.) Also, you know “Solitude Docks” still has traction because some of the top mod authors keep including patches for their stuff. I think it’s quietly one of the most-used by folks-in-the-know.
My Solitude outskirts: AssyMcGee’s Solitude Docks updated, BJS’s Solitude Exterior, Drengin’s Tower, Silian Manor. Can’t presently be beat. Requires almost no patches and only one bit of load order fiddling. (This combo is better than the patch that mashes Solitude Docks into JKs Outskirts.)

Man not gonna lie it's a pain that JK's Skyrim is an all in one with no choice. I remember in LE it had a file that was just the major cities and another that was just the towns. It'd be super helpful since I really just want it for the major cities, and maybe not even all of them. At least there's JK's Whiterun as a separate mod, but that one doesn't have all the same compatibility patches as the JK's Skyrim version. I don't wanna go down the rabbit hole of removing specific cities with SSEEdit and then making sure all my JK's Skyrim patches are correct... but I might because I still really like the mod. Or maybe I'll just use JK's Whiterun.
Also, last time I played I used Markarth Outskirts and this time I'm trying out JK's Markarth Outskirts. Still not sure which one I like better, but something about GGUNIT's mod feels a bit more natural to me I think. I might be going back to it.

I've finished vanilla Skyrim 9 years ago and just recently got back into the game after managing to afford a gaming laptop for myself.
I followed most of your mod vids namely QoL, Immersive, Survival mods, etc I lost track of, but this series literally left my mouth hanging, especially the Markath one (I used to abhor that city)! Please finish this series with smaller cities and towns, I'm beggin'!

As someone currently building a modlist and fighting with the mods (along with BGS mod breaking updates), it's good to see that a lot can be achieved with relatively few mods. I have Solitude Skyway in my mod list which is really interesting and builds on the size and scope of the capital. I have also picked Ultimate Markarth as my base for that city. I was really tempted with The Way Of The Dwemer by nesbit098 and may do that for a new play through. I took Clevercarff's AIO as I really like a lot of the texters including what I think is the best icicles I've seen.
Looking forward to seeing what else you have achieved with the smaller holds. (Holds The City Overhaul by Galandil? Love the Dawnstar version)
Just in time! I haven't reached those cities yet, so the game hasn't "created" the cell in my playthrough. Heard its a major problem to try and update cities that have already been visited mid-game.

I'd also recommend Ryn's farms and Ryn's whiterun city limits.
Thank you for all your mod updates, I find them very helpful. I do use Spaghetti town, palace, etc. I think it works well. I hope someday they make a patch with JK'S. I used to use it all the time. I also use dwemer pipes redone. It makes it looks so good especially in dwarven ruins. I don't know how to use ENB, PARALLAX, or a few others. Regardless I still cannot believe how well Skyrim constantly improves, even after over 10 years
Spaghetti and JK are mostly compatible! I think only Markarth required a patch, but to be honest, I don't remember much since I made the list for most of the cities a while ago.

Are the outskirts overhauls compatible with the Man those Borders mods? Both mods are great but if I recall correctly, the latter adds some fortifications at city outskirts.
I thought i was done with my mod list, until I see this video and installed an additional 70 + mods because I got all of JK's mods and Spaghettis AIO city and town overhauls...
I thought that my RTX 3060 and i5 10400 would explode from the JK Outskirts combo mods, considering that I have several mods for additional trees (especially around Whiterun) + NotWL + some additional clutter + lightweight ENB on the top of that. But everything didn’t turn out as bad as I thought, especially if didn’t install the exterior lighting mods - (almost) stable 60 fps with fps cap (61-62 without it). But with Lux Orbis fps drops to 40-45, so I left Lux only (for interiors).
I also install a Crimson corner (bordello) mod for Solitude just for the immersion - after playing The Witcher 3, I simply cannot imagine a large city without this small detail😅

Amazing collection and loving it! But I have a strange Hole in the windhelm market, NPCs objects and me can fall through and its just no texture either.
How did you solve this?
That is definitely not normal
Maybe try looking for some patches, you might have conflicting mods
But first, test it with a new character
What can you do with Whiterun that you cant do with Falkreath, Riften or MArkarth? Have TRade routes that go to Solitude(A port) to Dawnstar(a smugglers port) and all the way to Windhelm,(A port) and then all the way south to Cyrodil via Riverwood and what was once Helgen, though technically the road there doesnt go through Helgen.
I would definitely reccomend better cities solitude as a good expansion that adds buildings to the inner city rather than touching the outksirts. I used Enhanced Solitude before and the Frame Drops killed my pc as well as having a few bugs with npcs and Northern Roads so Better cities was much more functional and compaitible. I now use it alongside JK's Solitude Outskirts and Solitude Public Bathhouse.
Please also check out the newly released Animated Ships that adds moving ships around Solitude, Riften, Windhelm, Raven Rock and a few other places as I think thats a great immersion builder :)

Will you make a similar video on minor cities like Dawnstar and Falkreath? I'd like to suggest you to check up Dawnstar - The Pale Capital mod. It is criminally underrated and sadly has very few patches with popular mods, I only know of one with COTF. But boy it makes Dawnstar an interesting and dark place.

. . . . and because I also love BIG cities, I know exactly how difficult it can be to get all of these mods functioning together, and how much work really does go into it.

I think the only thing JK's Solitude outskirts needs is a few Merchant stalls by the docks and maybe a fishing Hut or fishery under the archway . The docks currently just don't have enough NPCs
That's very true! But I think the reason it doesn't add more is because it would create too much lag.
@@NarivaTV I'm sure adding one or two NPC vendors by the docks and a small Hut wouldn't hit FPS at all. Currently that blacksmith is just down there all alone

The whiterun walls dissapear when I get close, but exist at a distance, and some weird flooting ladders & shit.. I havent entered the actual city yet as I'm trying to figure out why but just don't understand whats going on..
I'm surprised that you didn't suggest MRF's Solitude. That would be my go to.

Hi, capital whiterun to me dosent work.. sse 1.5.97. New district wall bug and i dont no how to fix this( any patch and load order dosent matter..
Capital Whiterun and Illustrious Whiterun have issues, the fences are purple
I tried installing that Whiterun City Expansion + Whiterun has walls and its just a buggy nightmare ended up just uninstalling the expansion one.
Wish this was a modpack.
I have a question, how to fix navmesh problem with all these city expansions combined plus NPC overhaul & AI overhaul? I only use JK skyrim have several issues with navmesh where NPC stuck on their pathway, I think I already installed all needed patches between those mods, the only that fix this is I uninstall JK Skyrim and all its patches. this makes city expansions kinda a deal breaker to me

Most likely not
But there might be patches, you'll have to check individually for each mod that you're adding on top of open cities

Anybody willing to share a working load order (ModWatch)? Can't for the life of me smooth Whiterun out. Running this list + Landscape and Water Fixes + Northern Roads...
2 mods in and we're already incompatible. There's patches for jk and capital expansion but they seem to do absolutely nothing

For some reason when using the patch for capital windhelm and JKs I get flickering meshes at the cemetery. Got me ripping my hair out

@@NarivaTV yea get the issue with or without it. Comment on Rob's version. The issue seems to stem from Icy Windhelm actually. Gonna have to rework the mesh myself a bit to see if I can get it working right

Some of these mods overlap. Jk's Skyrim pretty much needs patching for the rest of them. Capital Whiterun/Windhelm also both need patching. Some of the exterior mods also overlap like the two Windhelm bridge mods and Riften dock mods.
it looks great, but with jk's mod, my fps goes form 70 to low 50s in some areas
Yeah, that's sadly normal
There are many reasons no builder ever ruins a perfectly good stone road or path by covering it with wood. Safety, functionality, material cost/waste, longevity, and 20x more time spent to make a 100x more inferior structure. As a builder who is especially appreciative of older styles of architecture, it also looks really bad, That last part is my opinion, but the previous five reasons (though the actual percentages are a guesstimate based on 30+ years experience) are just indisputable facts.
Yes it's just a fantasy game, but this is less realistic than a dragon. If you don't believe me, find a stone path or road, lay down a bunch of wooden boards over it, and try walking on it.
*Warning!* But wear a suit of armor before you try walking on it !! You'll need it. lols

capital Whiterun expansion has an option to disable the wooden planks because people complained about them not making sense.
Somehow I didn't know this, but it's a nice option to have. I'll keep them cause I like them lol
The windhelm bridge overhaul causes me to have hug lag spikes at the entrance and its patches with other mods such as lux via dont entirely work, couldnt recommend...

IMO Enhanced Solitude and Enhanced Solitude Docks are not worth it. On my 7900XTX those mods cut my fps down from around 150 to 70...
They are indeed very taxing, which is a shame cause I think they add a lot
I found zero performance hit from Enhanced Solitude. The enhanced docks on other hand, yes terrible hit. I pair Enhanced city with the solitude docks updated mod (and related robb fixes) and have no performance problems.
@adrianwebster6923 Are you locked at 60 fps or something? I can't imagine how that's possible. Solitude docks is definitely the bigger hit though.

That's fair, spaghetti was built with compatibility in mind, but JK simply has a lot more patches that other AIO mods such as Dawn of Skyrim (which is also a good mod, but a compatibility nightmare)
JK series is never FPS Friendly tho
I don't notice a significant difference with it, but you can get the rest of the mods without JK. You might actually have an easier time.
All of these mods add stupid amounts of drawcalls, not exactly what I consider "playable", although I know some people are fine with running their game at 50fps or even lower.
