They should handle it the smartest possible way. Which is seeing how he performs when it actually matters which is the playoffs. He takes us a long way and the main reason we don't fail is because of him you keep him.
You shouldn’t overpay for a player who’s had one good year… show you can duplicate it a second year and you deserve the bag for real… hurts had one elite year and has been barely decent since… love had one half of one year being elite and has been wholly inconsistent this year… Purdy had a great year and then proved he couldn’t elevate his team when they needed him this year. The league is full of guys who looked good and then fell off… who is AR15 gonna be? Is Stroud legit? In this league you need to prove that you can get consistent results. Darnold looks the part and I believe in him, but I want to see what he does in the playoffs and next year before I hand over the blank check… a 3 year team friendly deal would be great… otherwise franchise tag and let it ride.
Darnold is more talented than Purdy. If they win a playoff game, pay him a 3 year 150 million dollar deal with a 4th year option. They also need to find a way to keep Brian Flores.
Sam has already made $65 million not including endorsements. That's like getting out of college at 23 and making $1.75 million every year until you are 6o years old. He is already ok. The big mistake Kwesi made was not negotiating a $20 million team option when we signed him in case he blew up like he has. KAM you are a finance guy; you had all the leverage prior to his signing. If they win next week and do well in the playoffs, I would sit him down privately and tell him that if he is willing to sign for 3 for $75 to $100 million we will trade JJM and bolster the roster for a three-year run. If not, tag and keep for one year or tag and trade.
@@travistar Yeah, the Wrong One!! Don't be surprised if the Niners enter the Sam Darnold Sweepstakes at the end of this season, instead of overpaying Purdy.
These "experts" keep trying to cause a distraction on the team about the Vikings signing Sam Darnold. Sam's contract runs through the super bowl and there's plenty of time to work out a deal in the offseason. The focus for the team and organization right now is to win the next game and that's it.
I watched the Vikings-Packers game and Sam Darnold is better than I thought. He doesn’t have a cannon; watch Soul and Science if you disagree. But he has good ball placement and he’s mobile enough to buy time to get it to Justin Jefferson. Outside of the one pick that Darnold threw he had a very good game. But after watching Cousins in Minnesota, losing playoff games.. . I think the Vikings should offer Darnold a contract IF Sam wins at least one playoff game. If Sam loses then you have to think about looking elsewhere.
Sam needs to stay with the Vikings. The way that team embraced Sam entering the locker room yesterday told the entire story. It's not about the numbers (which are truly impressive btw), it's not about the record (which is equally as incredible), but it's about the way the team has embraced this team as their leader. Sam is the real deal in this real deal scheme.
Having watched most of the Vikings wins I've come to the conclusion that those people that think Darnold's success is solely due to the system he plays in are delusional. He has great pocket awareness and moves around to buy time in order to make many of those big plays downfield. That along with his commitment once he makes a decision is key to his success. Yes, he has great personnel and coaching but if you think you can plug just anyone into his spot and win 14 games, you are wrong! Just look at last year's Vikings.
This is the easiest way to explain it... there are MAYBE 3 teams that have as good of a system as Minnesota. And they all have their franchise QBs. So Darnold's options are, you play for the Vikings for whatever they offer, or you play for a team like the Giants, Browns etc. One is going to give you a chance to win and build a legacy. One will run you into the ground.
I've gone back and forth on this. My prior solution was to franchise Darnold to see if McCarthy is the real thing. But, that's a middle-of-the-road solution that I don't think either player would really like. And, you remember what Mr. miahi told Daniel-san: stay in the middle of the road and get squished like a grape. Now, I'm thinking, give Darnold his big contract. Whatever it takes to keep him a Viking. Sorry, JJ, but business is business. You want to be the starter, then outperform Sam.
He is infinitely better than Cousins, he proved it this year that he is a winner. But yes we can’t pay him the Cousins money. That was ludicrous and I hope the organization woke up after that disaster contract.
Why is it fans always feel their star QB's should take less money. This is a business. Sam quite possibly is at the point of his career where his potential for a large contract is at its highest. If I am the 49ers I sign Darnold and trade Purdy.
Well he’s not under contract next year and Vikings are gonna have to outbid a few teams. Even if he’s tagged. Other teams can offer him a bigger contract and trade for him.
There is no way Sam goes back to the Jets. The Vikings can franchise him to lock him up for another year at a cool 40 million unless he's willing to make a team friendly deal. If we do pay him a ton of money make it on a short contract and prove he can replicate success for a 2nd year or better yet tie up the money in incentives/milestones. Going to the Raiders or another terrible team is not going to go well - we have superb talent around him and one of the best coaches in the league. Not many of those QB needy teams can offer that.
The Vikes could franchise tag Sam, he'd get about $41 million for 2025, but I think they do right by him, offer him a 2 year deal, and let him decide what he wants to do. The Jones signing gives the Vikes a plan B for 2025; J.J. starts if he's ready and Jones is #2 if he'll sign with Minnesota for 1 or 2 years
@scruffd0g193 I don't disagree, but the Vikings have 3 picks in the upcoming draft, so F.A. with $80-90 million in cap space is important this off-season. If you spend $40 million + on a QB, that limits F.A. money for DB, OL, etc. They may choose to let him walk and get his money
Before they started the NFC Championship game with Randall C, they awarded him a huge contract the week prior. He played less than stellar..... and they lost. .. Wait until after season and make him your franchise player. NOBODY has anything on him~!
I mean to be honest most ppl still won’t be sold on Sam darnold. It makes sense he can play good this year and stink up the joint next year so you always have to be careful in these situations
I love how the national pundits, who have been blatantly wrong about this team and QB all season, are weighing in with their opinions on what they should do next.
If another team gives him the stars and moon let him go. They will find out that they don't get the Vikings by getting the Vikings QB. Just like what has happened to the Falcons with Cousins. Cousins in on the bench now.
We've got to stop it with this great quarterback room. JJ could not throw the ball well in college and Jones is a scatterbrain and not a drop-back quarterback.
$40 million a year for a QB is total bs, they did that once and got burned just like Atlanta is finding out now, there's no one man show in football like basketball, you gotta have good linemen, receivers, running backs, defensive players, you don't win superbowls with one guy, it takes 22 guys.
I really like Sam, but he was damaged goods before KOC and the Vikings. I have all the confidence in the world KOC will turn JJ into a great QB. He was crushing it in camp and was neck and neck with Darnold when he was playing with the ones. I’d rather have more cap space to fill the holes in the roster. We only have three draft picks and Flores will most likely be gone.
Let him walk otherwise we’re right back into a cousins situation. We have a stud QB on the bench. Use the 100+ million and attack free agency weak spots
It’s all irrelevant because he hasn’t done anything in the playoffs. If he loses the first round or even against the Lions next week, it makes a big difference. The Vikings love JJ McCarthy. He is the future.
What should the Vikings do with Darnold? Make sure he ends up on San Francisco or Seattle, so he can continue to flourish. But don't re-sign him. Spend that money elsewhere. They're good at QB.
Vikings have a great problem at QB! Finally the Vikings have a great all around team situation. Management, coaching, players and culture. Sam should do what Brady did. Take less money and stay with Vikings
The smart play would be to franchise Darnold and see what he does next year, because his performance this year has all but guaranteed that McCarthy won't see the field anytime soon. barring injury. Getting rid of Diggs was a huge move. He was a cancer in the locker room. All the talent in the world. Yes, he caught the Minneapolis Miracle. However, a selfish and conceited player.
If I am Sam Donald I'm following the money and creating the most possible generational wealth for my family. Later for all of those other emotion and sentimental based considerations. This is a business and owners don't show loyalty to the help over money
Owners don’t show loyalty anymore, players don’t show loyalty anymore. I’m Not sure why the fans show loyalty anymore. Why do people even buy player jerseys if that player will bounce at the first sniff at a few dollars more.
Sam should be humble about what has happened in Minnesota and not be greedy. Look at Tom Brady!! Don't forget how pathetic you were before the Vikings!!
What should the Vikings do? 2 years 30million. Don't like it, BYE. Whatever team he goes to, he will not be this good unless the other team has the weapons the Vikings do.
I hate this argument. If the players don't get paid, the billionaire owners just make more money. It's not like if they cut players salaries, y'all are going to get into games for $10 and have $0.25 beers. But yeah, let's get mad at the players for getting paid, the part of the NFL that actually makes it worth watching.
The difference between Lions fans and Vikings fans is that Goff is our Quaterback win lose or draw moving forward. We wouldn't want it any other way regardless of his contract. The Vikings fanbase will fold like a cheap suit on Darnold if he loses the next two games. Tell me I'm wrong 😂😂😂
You guys are way, way behind the Vikings as far as roster management goes when combined with success. This is one reason why the Lions aren't going to win a Super Bowl, at least not this year. The Vikings have already been down that path and made those exact mistakes during the Zimmer/Spielman era. You can't pay one guy that much money unless it's Mahomes, Allen, or Jackson. Goff is not at that level, Darnold is not, and neither is anyone on either teams' rosters except possibly 1st round pick JJ McCarthy. You can't pay a QB that much and continue to pay a defense, O line, and so on. Loyalty and emotions don't get you Super Bowl wins, or even close to playing in that game. All you have to do is look at Cousins and all of Zimmer's guys on defense that they hung onto way too long. It cost them 3-4 years of mediocrity, when they should have made trades and gotten younger and cheaper. Now that they got rid of those players, look at where the Vikings are at.

This. Hopefully this is the breakout year for Sam. Team loves him, and his attitude is miles above Cousins. That said,
A baker Mayfield type of deal is the best case.
14-2. Pay the man.
Couldn’t have said it any better myself
Have to franchise tag him and see if he would take a Baker Mayfield type of deal. If not, tag and trade him.
Give Darnold what he has earned.
49s had both and picked one
Koc is better with QBs than Kyle Shannan by far
McCarthy has a better arm & a better athlete, he's like Patrick Mahomes😮
@@LawrenceDaniels-t2k Or is he like Ryan Leaf? You really don't know, do you.
@@Washington-Dreaming Joe Montana didn't have the strongest arm, remember that? West coast offense 😀
You want to be the starter, then outperform Sam.
surprised that harrison didn't call Darnold trash.
“I rather have Prudy” ok…
He is infinitely better than Cousins, he proved it this year that he is a winner. But yes we can’t pay him the Cousins money. That was ludicrous and I hope the organization woke up after that disaster contract.
Sam can get the "good deal.." Win the Super Bowl and make millions in endorsements... part of the calculus...
Why is it fans always feel their star QB's should take less money. This is a business. Sam quite possibly is at the point of his career where his potential for a large contract is at its highest. If I am the 49ers I sign Darnold and trade Purdy.
As a Vikings fan, im so sick of this being the conversation every single week Darnold plays good. You should be talking about RIGHT NOW
Well he’s not under contract next year and Vikings are gonna have to outbid a few teams. Even if he’s tagged. Other teams can offer him a bigger contract and trade for him.
To be brutally honest, Vikes maybe have only two games left this season, and Darnold may be a forgotten trend by end January
Sam is gonna have to take a pay cut if he wants to stay in Minnesota
It's the best problem to have in the NFL. A M.V.P level player at the most important position at the premier spot
Actually, Detroit keeps pace with the Vikings 😊
You can't count a man's money, he us worth at least 40 to 50 millions a year.
Sam Darnold is not Kirk Cousins, he's a better player first, and he dont care about a truck load of money
The Vikes could franchise tag Sam, he'd get about $41 million for 2025, but I think they do right by him, offer him a 2 year deal, and let him decide what he wants to do. The Jones signing gives the Vikes a plan B for 2025; J.J. starts if he's ready and Jones is #2 if he'll sign with Minnesota for 1 or 2 years
2 year deal seems like a slap in the face to Darnold. Great year, teammates love you. Hear is only a 2 year deal that’s really a 1 year deal.
Browns/Michigan fan here keep Darnold make McCarthy learn
14-2 1 game left in season why would you not get him back
Pay Cousins,but not Darnold.
Wow.
Darnold just got $10 million for 1 year. I’ll take that!
He'll be better & more comfortable next yr.
Give coach some visine.
You selfish
We gotta keep Sammy D
How is he a 4 Star C. He's Having a good year though
10.1 M 1 year deal
Waiting for a USC QB to win a SB
250 mil / 5 yr
49ers will offer Darnold a QB market resetting contract
has their superbowl window closed, tho? i think it has
The Packers play the Great 8 minute game
What if the Vikings get to the superbowl or win it? Then what? Then what is that conversation with Sam like?
Let him walk otherwise we’re right back into a cousins situation. We have a stud QB on the bench. Use the 100+ million and attack free agency weak spots
Rodney forgot he was a Vikings hater!, don't worry he'll remember again soon.
It’s all irrelevant because he hasn’t done anything in the playoffs. If he loses the first round or even against the Lions next week, it makes a big difference. The Vikings love JJ McCarthy. He is the future.
McCarthy hasn't played a single down in an actual NFL competitive game. He could bust out and then what?
They will handle it appropriately and professionally which means nothing to do with what these bozos say.
Get the bag, 5 quarterback for what? most teams don't carry 3
By paying him, that was easy ✌🏽
What should the Vikings do with Darnold? Make sure he ends up on San Francisco or Seattle, so he can continue to flourish. But don't re-sign him. Spend that money elsewhere. They're good at QB.
There's a Sam Darnold hater on every show.
🤔My 2¢, yes Sam is having the time of his life there, but get the money
Sammy knows first hand how important a good org is, hes staying. 😊
I think he'd prefer to stay for less money over a trash team. I mean 40 million is still 40 freaking million.
Sam to Cleveland
Vikings have a great problem at QB! Finally the Vikings have a great all around team situation. Management, coaching, players and culture. Sam should do what Brady did. Take less money and stay with Vikings
In this economy I’ll take my chances with a big payday. Can’t raise a family with Super Bowl rings.
Lol. So 10 million a year isn't enough? That's way more than I'm going to make my entire lifetime.
@ $10 million a year is peanuts
Is three years $100M enough? It might be. @@keithturner7102
@@keithturner7102darnold's net worth is $30M. do you think he cares THAT much about money?
How hilarious if the lions lose by their own doing what would the media have to talk about 🤔
The smart play would be to franchise Darnold and see what he does next year, because his performance this year has all but guaranteed that McCarthy won't see the field anytime soon. barring injury. Getting rid of Diggs was a huge move. He was a cancer in the locker room. All the talent in the world. Yes, he caught the Minneapolis Miracle. However, a selfish and conceited player.
Get rid of Daniel Jones!🧐
If I am Sam Donald I'm following the money and creating the most possible generational wealth for my family. Later for all of those other emotion and sentimental based considerations. This is a business and owners don't show loyalty to the help over money
Owners don’t show loyalty anymore, players don’t show loyalty anymore. I’m
Not sure why the fans show loyalty anymore. Why do people even buy player jerseys if that player will bounce at the first sniff at a few dollars more.
Sam should be humble about what has happened in Minnesota and not be greedy. Look at Tom Brady!! Don't forget how pathetic you were before the Vikings!!
Darnold probably will chase the payday and his career will get ruined somewhere else. Greed in this league always ruins great team situations.
FIRE HIM NOW!!!!!!!
Franchise tag!! Keep ‘em around
They paid JJ big money they can't afford to keep Darnold he's gonna bolt after the season ends.
Vikings have 78 million in cap space for 2025.
And a lot of players to sign….
@@Sonicfan640so let's waste it all on a QB so y'all can keep complaining about the oline, Dtackle and cornerback situation.
If the Vikings beat the Lions and take the 1-seed, HE should be the MVP not Josh.
What should the Vikings do? 2 years 30million. Don't like it, BYE. Whatever team he goes to, he will not be this good unless the other team has the weapons the Vikings do.
Somebody will overpay, but not the Vikings. We did that with Cousins and nothing to show for it.
It's funny how fragile the ego of an athlete is. Making more money than God, yet complain it isn't enough about you. Pathetic.
That’s people in general
@@okstate999the lions have a better roster than the Vikings.
@@okstate999 😂😂😂 You just said a bunch of nothing kid the Lions are a far better team way more pro bowlers and not going nowhere anytime soon

@CrudPig12 The Vikings have had one good season. That's not a measurement of success yet 😆😆😆 Vikings fans are insufferable this year.
