Wait, are you telling me you can have fun 4wdriving in cape york without a bullbar, winch, rear bar, rock sliders, brush bars and 15 sets of maxtrax? Have the other channels been lying to us? Haha, great episode guys. Quote of the day "know your limits". Love the way you guys get out there, have fun and keep it real.
Hahahahahaha this comment wins!!! Hahaha it's insane how much gear everyone has. We got the basics. I'm just too cheap haha hence the Chinese ute! Thanks so much for watching! Haha yeah know your limits. I'm still learning what our limits are hahaha 🍻
Hi guys, absolutely love your travels & videos. Yes you can go so far without all the gear, but you just elected to stop venturing further as you don't have the gear, that tells us you do need the gear. What's no covered here as you haven't ventured far enough in, the route changes every year. That water crossing you camped at didn't exist years ago, you had no option but to undertake that water crossing. I can assure you it was as deep as Nolan's Brook, just didn't have a sand base. (my number plate surround and perspex cover is in it, haha) No way you were taking a stock vehicle (Hyundai, Overlander etc) thru that but now it's bypassed, so you can venture so far in those vehicles. The guys you see with all the gear are usually taking on all the challenges, Palm Creek, Gun Shot, Nolan's Brook, but you can usually bypass the difficult stuff, but the bypasses are far more challenging than what you attempted in you footage. I'm not knocking you or the GWM, love both ❤️ but the challenging stuff does require the gear. In 2010 I took a retired chap with zero 4WD experience along the whole track except Gun Shot, he looked at it but elected to backtrack & bypass it meeting us on the nth side. We even undertook the Frenchman Track. I recall arriving at Pascoe River, it was flowing really hard & truly over bonnet deep. 4 guys there in Supa modified Patrols laughing their heads off at our selection of vehicle. They crossed and left us. We all successfully crossed but I did elect to tow our retired gent slowly up the river exit to avoid damage to his car, it was really chopped out. Wished those guys had witnessed this, would have been eating humble pie. Our retired chaps choice of vehicle, a Hyundai Terracan, furthest thing from hard core you could select back then. He asked what modifications he'd require to accompany us. All terrain tyres, 40mm lift, snorkel, recovery points, car bra for deep water crossings so he sourced all items including a bullbar featuring recovery points. It wasn't a radically modified vehicle, but certainly a capable vehicle. He loved it so much he followed my mates into the Simpson Desert, then came home & brought a new 200 series, then went to WA to do Warburton Track. He certainly got the bug for a challenge.
@ianweal3081 I agree with you, if you want to do all the challenges, then yes, you would need more gear. My comment was that you can still have FUN 4wdriving without everything. Might just be clever editing but looks to me like they had a blast. The key is to "know your limitations" as they did in the video. Yes you won't see everything, but you can still HAVE FUN.
Another awesome trip and video. Beautiful wife, wonderful kids, lovely dog, beautiful country, awesome weather and a super cheap awesome 4x4 to see the best of what Aussie outback has to offer. What else does a man want? Leaving the dream!!!
Whoa 😮 so cool a song about your travels, yes KISS is all you need to see this great land ,and know your limits, when you find them, great video series 😊
Haha thanks so much mate! Yeah we were very surprised about the song but I was like... mate I'm totally putting that on the next episode ahahha why not. It's pretty funny. Thanks so much for watching 🍻
Great vid guys, well done. We couldn’t get enough of the corrugations so we turned off at Laura and took Battle camp road to Cooktown. Haha, it wasn’t too bad and some beautiful country along the way. Seriously loving what you do, cheers👍
Thanks so much for watching 😀 It gets so crazy hey!! Cooktown was beautiful and so much to see around cape trib. Can't wait to get those eps out :) Thanks for the positive comment 😀 🍻
Congrats on surviving the Tele and getting off the Cape 👍 I went for a look at a Cannon XSR today In Shepparton and the sales guy (Andrew) told me a lot of potential GWM buyers mentioned WBTO as the reason they were even looking. I reckon GWM should be in touch soon, right?! 😉
Thanks for watching mate :) Thats really cool to hear aye. Yeah I was wondering if they'd get in touch. We do chat a lot on socials but nothing more than that. Might need to hit them up haha I may ask the local dealer if I can do some revies on the other GWM and Haval range :) Cheers for the comment and I hope the Cannon is as good as you hoped and you grab one :) Cheers
Thank you so much for watching! And thank you very much for purchasing a few shirts. Would love to get a photo wearing them when they come for our socials if you're interested :) Hopefully they arrive very shortly Cheers 🍻
Epic road tales mate. Just heaps of fun to watch. I am about to buy a 2021 GWM Cannon L. I had an MUX 4 x 4 previously and it was a beast of a car. Close to $70k now so cannot justify any more. Sold the MUX due to work requirements (bought a VW Multivan - great great van) and missed the 4 x 4 activities and have trouble towing my camper trailer and 8 x 5 work trailer with van. Found a great buy on FB but really wasn't sure about Chinese utes. Spent a couple of weeks reading reviews and came across your videos which are mint. Pick it up next week. I will be watching your vids most of the coming week. Love it mate. Keep having the funnest times.
@leeriley66 hey mate that's awesome!! Thanks for your comment. Happy the vids have helped. Been such a great car for us. We are obsessed with GWM now haha. You're going to love it 😀 Cheers 🍻
Love you guys,, normal, no BS, Just an Aussie fam' havin' a blast! Unlike TripInAVan who used to be genuine but the sponsors got him, can't stand listening anymore. :)
Bloody gem alright haha. It will be mate. Such good warranty and dealers that I've visited have been actually pretty amazing. Hope you enjoy it mate! Well done. Ours has 41000kms now 😀
Hey mate. I also have a cannon need you help please. I did a 25mm spacer in front. Got 18" mags 9j and 20 offset. I want to fit 285/65R18 do you think it will be ok
Hey mate, if you chat with Ozzy Tyres they are really clued on with tyre sizes. But I do know that 285/65R18 fit on stock rims without any scrub. My rims are P10 offset and mine did scrub 285/65R18 and I had to do body mount chop unfortunately.... I'm not sure how it would go with P20, is this close to the stock offset? I'm not too sure.
All the best spots are in National Park. Such ashame you can't take dogs there . If everyone cleaned up after their dogs, they would probably never have banned them.
100% we pick up every single mess that finny makes! I wish they were allowed everywhere. Such a little family member. Cape York was pretty dog friendly though
Its not because of dog poo etc that pets are banned but because wildlife smell the scent dogs leave behind and may never come to that area again and therefore could die due to no food or water asthe scent left by your pet scares them away..
Nicely said :) yeah we learned so much about all of this as we travelled. We first thought it was because of poos. But then we were told about 1080 baits and also what you said above :) Cheers mate

@normscholz2881, totally agree, GWM Australia should consider compensating WBTO in some way.
