    I was lost in my golf swing trying everything like grip, shallowing, weight forward, just a mess but this has brought my swing back to basics, natural feel, and if setup correct all those things fall in place... thank you!

    I have tried every grip known to man. I will never give up my strong baseball grip. My miss is left and it is always a result of getting lazy with body rotation. It rarely happens except on hot 36 hole days and could be attributed to alcohol consumption. Physical conditioning , flexibility and hydration definitely play an important role. The bowing of the left wrist at the top or at impact is an unnecessary manipulation. I really don't give the wrists any thought during my swing but when I examine it on video it looks flat and inline with the forearm. I have been hitting alot of balls lately and have discovered something in my swing which allows me to precisely control low point on every single shot. It is another gold nugget that I stumbled across . It has been throughly tested and now I own it. Come on spring time !
    Thanks Shawn

      This did it for me. I guess my hands were slowing each other down? Tremendous speed increase by finding the grip that works for me. I always had instructors force me into super strong grips. Fought a horrible hooks and double crosses. Shawn knows how to make things click for me. Best golf instruction on the internet.

    I have been experimenting with grip changes this year. I definitely benefit from a slightly stronger grip, probably about 11am on the dial when closed in a neutral position (the neutral position was what I was taught a long time ago). Consistency of ball striking has improved. They key is to remember that you are throwing the club into the picture as Shawn would say. The ball has really come our of the equation for me. Keep the videos up please Shawn as they are a constant help to me.

    Do you recommend closing the face the same amount for all clubs, or do you close more for higher loft than lower loft? In my swing I find if I close my driver the same amount I close my 7 Iron, I get a severe hook with the driver while the 7 iron is fairly straight.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is very common! Use Goldie Locks! See “perfect contact and direction shawn clement” Some need to close kore and some need to close less with woods and driver.

    In your example with a neutral grip and open club face at impact, can't you square the clubface by rotating your chest more towards the target and to the left?

    Does the grip club relationship change depending on ball position, say driver out in front vs a pitching wedge in the middle.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From iron to wood it can easily yes; but everyone is different because clubs are different; some are draw biased and some are not. If you draw irons and slice woods; close the face more on the woods! Can easily be the opposite too.

  • @swingking83
    @swingking83 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This is very important and not talked about enough. Grip is super important. People assume a strong grip means you are gonna draw the ball but majority of tour pros are with this grip hit a fade (Zach is the only that doesn’t really). I like to imagine the grip and the hips/ shoulders have a better correlation. The rate your hips and shoulder open and end up at impact should dictate which grip you use. A strong grip you should be open up more at impact. Neutral grip should be open hips square shoulders. And weak grip body more square to close. Also for each grip ball position should altered. With a strong grip being more forward and a weak grip more back.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You definitely have the right idea and understanding of things! What you want to add to this is what combination you need to collect the ball from where it lies and release it into the flight plan towards the target. We cannot all be made of rubber like Joakim Niemann or Charlie Woods, but we all have a certain potential for target bound deliveries. what we don’t want is to make the ball the target and practice unloading at the ball!

    Hi Shawn, I hear so much of about a flat left wrist. With the strong grip it doesn’t look flat, just cocked on the sniff box. Is that correct? Also, you never mention a down cock of the wrist. Is that a natural movement in your swing? Thanks for the great videos. Greg

    So whenever I would hit my drivers good, I would hit my irons terrible and vice versa. Today I realized I have to use different grips for iron and for driver. For irons if I keep my wrist straight(so the backside of my hand is facing towards my aim I would bow my wrist and it would be more accurate and stronger. For my driver I would twist my wrist right slightly so my backhand is at a 45 angle above my iron grip and wrist would hinge. This would make my driver more accurate and less slice or hooks plus I'd be able to hit it hard. If I use my iron grip and try it, it would always fade. Is this fine to have different grips and wrist techniques for driver and iron? Tbh I felt like I learned how to fade with that grip now.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! they are different designs and you are on the right track; some will need to close the face more or make the grip stronger with the driver, and some won’t.

    Curious about a stat I gathered from your last swing. Was your path 10.5* in to out and face 8.5* open(2* closed relative to path)? My path is generally 6-8* in to out and thought that may be extreme.

      On the premium channel, we have a video series called “blur of club” and the “arc blur unstoppable momentum series and you want to combine this with the “alignment reload” video. The human machine has a very particular way to use the eyes which are Binocular or face on; when you look from the side at your target, and try to send a ball that way, you get tricked every time; understanding how they work and how you need to use the blur of club with an intermediate point is PARAMOUNT for solid contact as it makes the ball a precise intersection on the way to the target!

    Shawn, thank you for the lesson. Are you saying that attempting to change wrist shape at top is not something worth pursuing? Also, is it grip style driving wrist shape at top, or wrist shape at top driving optimal grip style? Thank you sir.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hey Joseph! Great question! It definitely starts with the grip and what has and is being taught. If the grip is too neutral, it starts to affect the way the hands and body move to attempt to square the club to not lose the shot to the right and many fail and get very frustrated with having to fight path and release the lag early to try and get the club to square up. Better to be too strong like last year’s Charlie Woods and work on delivering deeper to the target and once we are there, we can weaken until we can stay comfortably with our action to target without feeling the need to hold it off. Holding the club off creates better golf swings by far!

    Is he stating you should adjust the club face as part of your set up depending on your grip and not as part of your golf swing? So in essence you could have a very closed club face at the time of set up as part of your natural swing....or did I miss the point completely?

    One issue just turning face close would be different club length, loft, attach angle issue. Say 7iron u turn it 35 degrees, 8 iron u need 30 degrees and 9 iron u need 25degrees. Correct? Same logic as someone who slices will slice less as each club they go up. If u turn every clubs 35degrees as your 7 iron, ur wedges would just end up be a nasty hook to the left. And all your clubs would have gapping issue. A 35degree closed face on 7iron is -6 degree. 35degree closed face on GW is only -4 degree

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The more loft you have, the more backspin you get and LESS sidespin. It is the opposite…this is why your case is very strange. It can be that your eyes are seeing the wedges differently when you close the face. Do the Goldilocks drill with them. See what happens when you open the face too much, then find the in between what you have now and the flop shot.
