Wow, I love all the grand seiko models but man, this looks good. I also really enjoy those nature descriptions that they are so good at creating..lol. Awesome looking watch.
"So I'm packin' my bags for the Misty Mountains.....where the Spirits go now"....That's a nice watch! Love the hands, the prominent indicies and of course, that 9R66. The hands look almost "giltie" in the light you filmed them in. Beautiful!
This model is SO nice in person. I'm looking for a nice watch for a milestone birthday later this year. I liked this one, and the SBGM245 the most. Of course this was the 2nd most expensive GS I liked enough to try on, OF COURSE! I wish I didn't like it so much. I need to figure out if I want to spend that much, but that applies to the equally expensive new Speedy '57 I also liked.
2:18 this song made me go get a massage. Boy was I overdue for one. BTW, wore my Seiko SPB301 when I went to go get the massage. Cause you know; you care.
Bruce please try and review the evo9 diver - not seen really any decent content on it . Good video as always ❤ If GS release a green version of this dial there Must be a partner product out there to buddy up with as a special - Mountain Dew springs to mind 😂
Great looking watch. I find the GS case shape influences me whether I like the model or not. What I did notice are the (lack) of quality in the 24 hour markers. Seems to be missing some gaps in the valleys of the markers.
You should do a video about micro adjustment clasps and more importantly, the lack of these on big brands such as Grand Seiko and yes also Omega for instance. I just cannot understand why micro brands understand the importance of micro adjustment and some big boys just don't get it
If I were to get a Grand Seiko, I would want to get a GMT. It feel synonymous with this brand, the SBGM221 might be the best watch for value I can think of. Yet I have a hard time justifying this watch at this price point. It feels like Grand Seiko wants to punch up with the 9 series but with the case thickness of this watch and the bracelet, while improved; is still not at an elite level or as iconic as some of the iconic looking bracelets that are at and below this price point - just doesn't seem to fit the price tag. A 10 grand watch is something that is hard to pull the trigger on for most people, I still don't have one. While I probably will at some point, I can think of a lot of other contender's for that purchase than this.
Curious to know which other GMTs you can buy at this price point (~$6.7K second hand, $8.4K MSRP) that can check all the boxes the SBGE285 does. It's thick, but it hides it well (and quite frankly, 13.9mm is not as thick as GMTs from Tudor and Omega). The bracelet quality is excellent, it's just the lack of microadjustments that lets it down. The dial texture and case/dial finishing are unrivaled at this price. The 41mm case diameter (I believe bezel diameter is smaller) and 48mm lug to lug makes it very wearable too. And its got Spring Drive, which is completely unique to the Seiko group. The Longines Zulu Time might be the only watch that comes to mind that can be a better value, but even so, that watch is 42mm, over 49mm lug to lug, and really isn't in the same league in finishing and movement, which is reflected in the price difference.
GS is not a brand....is a model.....all the same.. .i don t like GS and i think they never become popular because they are boring faces boring hands boring............
You’re entitled to your opinion, but you literally don’t know what you’re talking about. The faces are some of the best in the business, as are the hands, especially those that are “Zaratsu” polished. And they are incredibly popular for a brand that’s only been available in the west for about 10 years.

Wow this one is a beauty…loved the brushed case and all the light work off the polished dial hardware
This is a lovely watch. Nice video too, good work.
Really nice video, some really beautiful shots
Beautiful
Great show I’d love to hear more from grand Seiko and how much petrol or media or is there
Grand Seiko is definitely next on my collection list
Love Grand Seikos in general. But m in love with the Night Birch... waiting for it to come in Spring Drive version.
Love this watch if it was in steel. Still beautiful to look at though.

I'm waiting for the pond slime at dusk version.
Hi Bruce, great review as usual. Does it have an instant date change?
Does the thickness bother you?
like this watch.
