2018 Mustang GT w/ Performance Pack 1 - One Take

  • The 2018 Mustang GT is a potent car, but needs some help in the handling and stopping department to be truly canyon/track-ready. Under hard use, the regular GT's brakes could fade, and the nose just isn't sharp enough. The Performance Pack 1-available from the dealer- sorts those issues. It comes with a Torsen LSD, retuned electric steering, stiffer front springs, dual mode exhaust a strut tower brace, Brembo brakes, larger radiator, larger sway bars, a rear wing and front splitter, a K-brace, refined stability control and the exceptional Michelin PS4 tires.
    Anthony's car has all of that, but he put on an aftermarket exhaust too.

    Zack dropping wisdom. Totally agreed. Modifying just to modify is done too often. Your brain will get used to whatever you throw at it. Do something to challenge yourself and keep yourself interested, it may be track days, it may be long road trips, it may be detailing a car to perfection - but the answer almost always is not throwing more money at it.

      Zack schmidt Theres not a lot you can point at with this car, visually. The big changes in the PP1 are brakes, a diff, a bigger radiator, good chassis tuning, and tires. Not the most interesting stuff to point at. :). But it helps the car a lot.

      Yeah I ran into the same surprise on one of the other videos. Zack's still working on developing his own style, but I think he'll get there. If you all remember, the first few One Takes were somewhat awkward too so it'll be interesting to watch the One Take 'brand' develop.
      BTW, hats off to Matt and the TST crew for broadening the scope of the brand. Pulling that first new guy into a growing brand can feel daunting, especially when so much of it is based on a person's style. Good luck going forward guys.

    This is my car, if you guys have any questions dm me on ig (sunlessrx) it’s my business account but I will respond.
    First yes I tried to clean the car best I could and I try and limit drives with my pup. Zack was pushing the car and never made me feel uncomfortable but I was getting car sick, I’m pretty tall and the camera angle couldn’t get me with my seat at normal position so I adjusted it lower.
    Reason for the pp1 was basically to get the brembos at that’s it. The car is my daily and hopefully have some sort of forced induction on it. Driven in my buddies 6th gen Camaro and it’s a great car stock, the irs is way better and it feel more track oriented out of the box. I also have tended to like Chevy better when the new Camaro came out I was all over it, I hated the visibility. There seem just as fast factory. That being said I took him for a ride in my gt and he told me that he was getting butterflies because the power band is more mid- top range.
    Thanks again Zack and everyone for watching,
    -Anthony

    PP1 is how Mustangs should come stock. Even the PP1 feels like boat floating above the ground. PP2 should be a PP1.

    • @gen1c8rs88
      @gen1c8rs88 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aram Garibyan Definitely and I would chose a GT with PP2 and 305/35r18 Toyo R888R on 18×11 wheels all the way around(with other additional car modifications).

    • @aramgaribyan6248
      @aramgaribyan6248 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If the PP2 would cost as much as a PP1 does right now, sure. Otherwise it's like $50-52k, and at that point, much better to get a slightly used GT350 that's driven like 5,000-10,000 miles. The type of people that get GT350s generally take very very good care of them. At least from what I've seen/heard/read.

    You hit the nail on the head... 'back-in-the-day'... a stripper, base car didn't have radio, A/C, wheel covers (don't even think about "Mag wheels" or decent tires) - it was all about 'poverty' hub covers and cheapest, narrowest tires they could legally put on the road, clock - sometime, not even a heater or multi-speed windshield wipers!
    The S550 "Base" GT, with PP1-level package, may not have all the bells 'n whistles is no slouch! It comes "stock" with the widest tire and wheel package of all the models! You drive it out the door with a functional, top of the line V8 and strongest chassis, motor, suspension,performance gearing 3.73 had (putting in an option for 3.55's - would have been appreciated - great for top-end charge runs) the factory made... its equipped, functionally with the equivalent of a "Police Pursuit Package" included at a "bargain basement" price. ....Whats not to like? Anything you need to take off or toss, to make it a decent foundation for a track car... was never installed in the first place. To my way to thinking - its perfect: the best engine Ford made, the best Manual transmission that Ford was selling (regardless of what you think of the MT-*82...its still one hella big jump from the crappy SROD or even the first models of T-5 ford put in the early '80's mustangs, when the first revived the 5.0 HO).
    In '83, Ford sold a similar "GT" package "Stripper-base, TRX"; but it didn't have A/C, pwr windows or stereo on the old 5.0 HO. It was a good 300lb lighter than a full on "GT". It was a deadly Street, sleeper - ripped a new one on any Camaro which faced it... that was why GM put the first 350's in - "It still didn't help"!
    The S197 was good, but the S550, "Base GT, PP1", was a home-run, from Day one!

    Our 2018 GT Convertible rental had the Premium but not the Performance Pack. I would have preferred it the other way around. Good tyres instead of a bad, large screen infotainment system.
    The All-Seasons did surprisingly well. But since in our 4700 miles we mostly went for the twisty route, grippier tyres would have been nice given all that weight.

    I can relate to the desire for the older Mustangs. My '93 LX has been completely modified, is lighter than current Mustangs, and still quick enough to get tickets. But, the seats are threadbare & the foam is flat. Interior panels are loose. 24 year-old tint is crispy. And the a/c hasn't worked in 9 years. The "dream car" project has become the "preservation" project. What to do? Sink another $10k into it, or get a modern muscle car?
    If I could, I would keep the '93 & get the 2018 Mustang PPL2, and call it even. 25 years later, Ford finally put a package together that is more than what I've done to my car. Hmmmm, some day when I grow up, I'm gonna have all the toys I ever wanted...

      Nicholas Arceri night and day difference. It's better in every way besides size. I went from a 1995 Vert GT to my 2016 GT350 and it's smoother, faster, easier to drive, and even without navigation or heated seats, the few amenities it has are nice. It takes a while to get used to the higher belt line and bigger size but that's about the only thing I can say I liked better about the '95. It was much easier to see out of.

      Vernon Price that's not all he said.

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +bukweat - That was the reasoning he gave. Yes it's paraphrased, but that is essentially what he was saying. So the question is, if you recognize that you have to modify the Mustang to get it to drive like the Camaro - and even then it probably never will because of the Alpha platform chassis that you can't get with a Mustang - why not just get the Camaro? If the way it drives is important enough to to you go through modification hell JUST to make the Mustang drive more like the Camaro, that seems like a gargantuan waste of time and money to me.

    • @AlumarsX
      @AlumarsX 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      The Mustang is a better daily driver. You can't make the Camaro have good visibility, but you can make the Mustang handle better..

    • @zackklapman3569
      @zackklapman3569 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I stand by that. The Alpha chassis under the Camaro is a better car if all you seek is handling and lap times, but the positives end there (for me). I could get a Mustang and modify its suspension and tires, and get close to the Camaro’s feel. But I can’t buy a Camaro and modify the visibility, the front end design, or thee interior design.

    I know exactly what you mean about the simultaneously being big and small, I own a v6 and it feels only small buts it's the same size, and I drove the GT and it feels the same size but bigger haha. I assume it's the weight but I just thought it was cool that you feel the same way I did.

    Only a mustang owner who lives on a canyon can understand what it means to feel small and big at the same time I used to feel like I could fit with other cars between parked cars until I hit off a neighbors mirror oops! Really learned the size then.

    For the money I'd rather have the Terminator. I just don't like the way the new Mustang looks. I can't deny it's a better driving car than the Terminator though.

      Roger J they are both badass in different ways. I had an 03 cobra for 4 years before I bought my 17 5.0. Both fun cars and both fast but in different ways. The cobra is definitely more raw and violent with low end torque if that makes sense, but the 5.0 is still deceivingly fast because it seems much smoother and pulls hard on the higher end. More more refined. I miss my cobra but also enjoy the extra features on my 2017, and it's definitely no slouch

    Example 2:53 . Here is a perfect example of what my qualms are with Zack as a host. He simply just rambles far too much and looses focus. He seemed to regain focus on the second half of the video and I hope he continues getting better but ideally I'd prefer Matt to come back.

    Best way to build a mustang. Mine is a 2015 base gt with only intake exhaust and tune for power and full BMR and Eibach suspension with wider wheels and tires. Someone out there always has deeper pockets so why chase horsepower?

      @floored3078 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christian Smart man, if I had 45,000 I'd buy a 16 gt350

    • @dudeshark2471
      @dudeshark2471 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because horsepower is addicting and it’s not always about being the fastest. There’s a sweet spot where you have enough power to never get bored of it but still realistically useable and fun.

    • @floored3078
      @floored3078 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think anything over 500whp is over kill, 500whp is a good fun range, 700-800 is insane and it can't be driven long trips because it drinks a full tank every 100 miles. Lol.
      I'd take a 500whp or 400awhp and never stop smiling, and I'm not talking about what the specs consider bhp or from the engine, I'm talking 500 to the wheels.

    • @christian3448
      @christian3448 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I haven't been on a dyno yet but other people with my mods are making 420-430 to the wheels. Car is a blast.

    Pay it off first! Wise words.
    Being in the Fiesta and Focus community it drives me nuts how many kids I see who can barely afford the car go out first thing an tune it, and then they are bitching later when they have problems but the dealer won't fix it. (Meanwhile even though I am a mechanic I got the extended warranty so I could beat the shit out of it...and I do. And my car has 75k miles and is at the shop RIGHT NOW getting some new bearings in the transmission.)
    Anyway...what is the point in buying new if you are going to lower the reliability and axe the warranty? At that point you might as well just buy a faster used car. I mean for $23k you could have a nice C5 Z06, quick BMW, older Cayman, etc. Much better and faster stuff out there if you don't need a warranty.
