One year later and I still find this so wonderful. Would you consider doing something like this again? Your series on flowers was amazing. Please do something along that nature once more. We loved it, Diane.
Just started painting, at 67yrs old, never painted a thing in my life, but after watching a few utube videos, I think I should have a try, thankyou for explaining things so well.
Wonderful! So glad you found it interesting and I hope you keep at it - everyone needs a little art in their life especially now. I didn't paint for many years, but eventually picked up a brush. And look where I ended up! Anyway, happy painting and it will get easier!!
I have told my Daughter in Law about how much You have encouraged me to paint for relaxation. She’s a Busy Mom of 3 Little ones and received a Paint Box from my son for Christmas. I hope she tunes into your Channel. Thank you. Happy NewYear.
Hi Robin and thanks so much for your support and spreading the word! I really appreciate that. I hope you continue to paint in 2023 and I wish you a wonderful, watercolorful new year!
I am going to TRY these! Yours are most beautiful! Mine will not be so LOL Frankly I’m afraid of this one. I’ve watched this demo 4 times!! I will give it a go tonight, or tomorrow, after I watch it again! 😉 This is my most favorite floral you have done! Breathtaking colors❤️
Hi Shirley, so glad you enjoyed this video! I know what you mean about it seeming to be a bit scary letting the water play on the paper with the paint, but I think you will find it easier than you think if you just relax and have fun. It won’t look exactly like mine but you will achieve looseness, which is the beginning of something. Have fun!
Both versions are just beautiful! I watched it all the way through - I really appreciate the real-time filming...........I think I could do it! I did your "Doodle with Sunshine" one last week and sent my daughter a photo of it - and she loved it! She likes all my attempts - like your whimsical birds and animals, but she wants me to paint her one of the "loose" ones.........that is her favorite style! And I LOVE your spattering - I have mentioned that before - I love to spatter backgrounds - but this would be different in that the spattering comes first!
Hi Tracy, so glad your daughter likes your paintings, that's such a boost isn't it! I'm sure you could do that painting. It's not hard at all. Just make sure you protect your valuables from the spatter!!!!
@@DianeAntoneStudio HAHA!! Yes - I put my watercolor paper on waxed paper, but it does tend to get beyond it onto my work table and my water glasses and my desk lamp, etc.......!! Good thing I love the spattered look - I don't feel the need to clean it all off every day - just every so often!
OH Diane!! I just found you the other week; and I am so astonished at how easy you make learning watercolour to be! I have done a bunch of birds, and cats, and sheep, and yes o yes, I want to be able to do florals like these!! I have the same love of watching the colours move on paper, and none of the skill!! haha and I have bought 3 different pads of paper with the same technical specs and we shall see which one of them is worth buying again. I love your lessons, its as if you are across the kitchen table from me and you've just dropped in to show me a thing or two about my next project. so happy you are sharing your time and talent with us, love that you spent time in Canada, stay well and cool and I'll see you tomorrow. 🤗
Hi Calli, thanks so much for your lovely message! You certainly will be able to do those flowers before very long if you keep practising! So glad you are enjoying the channel!
I love this! I am going to try it. Thank you for helping me try to develop a more loose style which is what I enjoy looking at but haven't been able to master.
Hi Faye! So glad you enjoyed the painting today! I’m sure you’ll find this technique will help you to let go of the desire to control! It’s amazing what paint will do if you just let it get on with it! Happy painting!
This reminds me of when I used to grow a multitude of sweet peas every year! I used to grow single colour varieties (they germinate better) and then mix them when starting them off in root trainers. I loved the resulting riot of colour and scent when they were planted and flowering in the garden mainly in big pots and they used to grow crazily but beautifully! I'm going to try this tomorrow, thank you for triggering a wonderful memory! 🌸🌼🌻
@@DianeAntoneStudio I can recommend Kings Seeds! Really fresh seed and they have the largest range of single varieties than any other company. The scent is heavenly!
Argh, yes, it is full of woodworm. Luckily seems to be only one. We've put a brace on it to keep it in place. I don't think it is one of the roof supports so it should be ok!
Both of these are beautiful and it was interesting to see how the two methods gave only slightly different results. I may try it on a variety of paper to see which works best for me. Thank you for a lovely start to my Saturday.
Wonderful! So happy you enjoyed the tutorial. You're right, the paper will make a big difference. Mine was quite a smooth surface, not at all the normal watercolor texture. But make sure you don't use hot press, that wouldn't work at all with this technique!
Hi Julie, so glad you enjoyed the tutorial, I have several slightly different styles in my channel so I'm sure you'll find plenty to interest you. Let me know how you get on! Happy painting!
Oh my, I love the potters pink, but realize it has to be well thought out. I use Mission Gold pigments but am adding Daniel Smith to my paint box. I love landscapes and could see beautiful rocks with potters pink. I learn so very much from you Diane. Thank you again for your excellent explanations!
Diane i absolutely love you you, your paining, i could watch and listen to you all day long. shame i have young children that desire most of my time. i hope to paint like you one day .
Thanks so much Nicola, that's very sweet. I do remember I didn't paint at all when my children were young, but I wish now I'd tried harder to squeeze it in, even a few minutes a day would have been a good idea. A water brush and some small colors doesn't take up much space either! Good luck, keep watching and hope you and the kids are well x
Thank you for the reference to Amazon Ritcheson (?) that I watched yesterday. I found the porcelain mixing bowls for which I have been searching. Now I am ready to do this vase of flowers.
These are lovely, Diane! My favourite is the one with more definition. For a moment or two, I was thinking you might use pen for further definition., which could also be lovely, but would of course change its ethereal feel.
Thanks Kathy, so glad you enjoyed that video! It’s always fun to add penwork. Recently I have tried out some pen on top of a photocopy of my painting first, to see how it worked out. It’s a way to avoid commitment too early!
Both of these paintings are lovely. I can’t choose one over the other: I really can’t. I do know what I’ll be doing this afternoon. By the way, I wondered about the use of Potters Pink. I personally am very fond of it, but it’s hard to get it going. However, it did me proud!
Thanks so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed them! A lot to be learnt from using watercolour like that especially if you’re exploring a colour like Potters pink. It can look a bit messy if it goes wrong. But never mind even if it does it doesn’t matter does it! As long as we are having fun.👍
If you need single paint pots on the cheap, you can use scallop or clam shells. They work great. I don't mind them rocking a bit, but a little dot of blue tac holds them steady. This style of painting is freeing and lively. 💕
So much joyful color, Diane. I’m looking forward to trying out both. I’ve never “purposely “ tried” an abstract lol and the slightly more fored version is very loose, yet, the petal shapes might not be as scary for a first try😊. We still haven’t had weather that’s given hope to Spring. I’m afraid we we will continue with winter- wintery spring and leap right into fall🥴. Is it possible to paint these 2 tutorials on very large sheets of paper and cover the windows until the seasons figure out their order once again???
Two nice result with lovely colours. I did not get why the colours have been fresh out from the tupe and how are you able to identify them ? I always write the names of the colours on the pot or on a tape. How are your sheeps Doping?
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial! If I've understood your question right you are asking why I don't let my paints dry before I use them? It's simple. I always use my paint direct from the tube when I am painting loose wet in wet, just because I need to be able to pick up more paint for that technique than I can get if my paints are dry on the palette. Actually, I never paint with dry paints. As for identifying them, I usually can recognise them by sight, but I do also usually write the name on the side of the dish. Those ones I didn't need to because I knew what I was using. Finally, thanks for asking about the sheep. They are huge now, the lambs have grown a lot, and they are all doing very well thanks! Thanks again for your comments and support!
@@DianeAntoneStudio Can you clarify that you only ever use fresh paint? You said you re-activated your paints (after the paintings had dried), so am I right in assuming that they were the same blobs you squeezed out in the beginning? Why not use dry paints? I thought it was the "advantage" of watercolors... 🤔I only have dry (supermarket type) ones, so just wondering the difference. I already notice that yours are more pigmented & have a different flow compared to mine.
Hi, thanks for your comment. There are two forms in which water colour is widely available and used: solid pans of colour, and tubes of liquid colour. When it is a matter of artists quality watercolour paints, the pans contain exactly the same paint as the tubes, but they have a slightly lower water content. This is what allows them to be solid in the pans, and is achieved by the manufacturers simply by allowing the paint to dry once it has been put into the pans. Nowadays, many TH-cam artists are showing the process of purchasing liquid paint in tubes, squeezing it into pans, and letting it dry. This achieves nothing except what they would have achieved had they purchased pans in the first place. If anything, the pans contain slightly more pigment per ounce than the tubes, and therefore constitute slightly better value for money. In order to use the dried out pans that you have created by this method, you need to re-introduce water to the pans in order to “re-activate” the paint. In this sense “reactivate” simply means diluting the paint in water again so that it can be used. This is the crucial difference between acrylics and water based paints. If you squeeze out your acrylics into pans and let them dry you will never be able to use them as they turn into lumps of plastic. The unique selling point of watercolours is that they can be used forever. In fact my next video coming out today shows me reactivating some pans of paint which were purchased 30 years ago and which still behave in exactly the same way as pansI might have bought yesterday. Indeed they behave in exactly the same way as tube paint I might have bought yesterday, had I squeezed out a blob of soft paint onto my palette. In the particular painting that you’re referring to, I had squeezed the paint out the day before, and overnight it had dried slightly on its surface. In order to continue using that paint, I simply needed to wet it and immediately it resumed the characteristics of tube paint. Personally I use a mixture of pan and tube paints, and I use them generally in slightly different ways. Normally if I’m painting a large painting I use tube paint so that I have easy access to a lot of paint for a lot of paper, and if I’m doing more delicate work I sometimes use pans. Also, pans are very much more convenient if you are painting out of doors, or travelling. I hope this helps.
