UniFi Mobile Router (UMR) 1.6.3 & OpenVPN

In this video, Alex looks at the latest software update for the UniFi Mobile Router Open, 1.6.3 which adds support for an OpenVPN client. This means you can connect the device back to your home network.

Biggest question for me is why are they using openvpn when wireguard is by default much better, faster and less overhead? (totally my experience for sure, but i used openvpn before wireguard, and i won't go back to openvpn)

Hi Alex, is the site magic feature available on the UMR? I would like to use it as a remote router to a site without wired internet connection but with great coverage. Any information on this would be super helpfull, as the other alternative is currently a unify express and LTE backup. But this is almost 3 times the price.

Hey, thanks for watching! - No, the UMR does not support Site Magic unfortunately. We're hoping Ubiquiti allows some more flexibility for this device, but it is looking unlikely.

Also, sure, it might come later, but still...
and why cant we adopt UMR to our own controller? It's just an USG (somewhat) with mobile connection.

I have have setup mit UMR just like in the video, with config file and everything
But Im not allowed to turn on the VPN service on my UMR, its seems like im supposed to subscribe to the cloud service first!? I don't get the "Settings" tab
