Like you, I had a large vinyl collection when CDs came along. I also didn't sell off the vinyl but did duplicate many, many titles with CD versions. I now have about 36,000 records (not counting the 45s, 10inchers and 78s) and sold most of my 22,000 Cds. In the last couple of years, I have begun to purge albums from the collection, but only ones that aren't in good enough shape to keep. I have been giving a lot of thought to where I want my collection to go from here on in. I figure as long as it keeps making me happy... why stop?
Wow. That is one heck of a collection. Library might be a better description. Must take up some space. Not sure I could fit that many in here. Given the chance though, I would try !
That is very true, and one of the benefits of the internet age is that you can usually have a listen before buying. Not like the old days when a lot of buys were either totally blind or based on reputations of bands/musicians involved or recommendations from friends.
It's cRAzY isn't it. I have never made a video before but my old 70 year old ass is going to give it a try. This video of yours will be the first thing I'm going to tackle. Thanks for the inspiration. ❤
Also yes I bought most of my vinyl on CD and kept both for reasons that are not clear. I also could have become an alcoholic or junkie or gambler so I don't sweat it. Everybody else does but screw them.
If your ears are still working correctly you are duty-bound to buy more vinyl. That's an order! I stick to CD's now but still have my vinyl. I'm fighting against hearing issues so I don't see the point of paying extra for premium sound when my ears are the issue. Anyway I'm lucky, I can still hear enough to enjoy music and play my guitar. My Ma collects teapots that she never makes a brew in! That comes up a lot in our discussions regarding my music addiction.
Thanks for the comment. I guess I better go to a record fair at the weekend then. Hope your ears don't get any worse and that you can continue to enjoy your music and guitar playing.
That is certainly becoming a problem here at Custard Central and I guess is why quite a few people jumped enthusiastically in to streaming or digital download. Thanks for stopping by. Cheese is always welcome here !
I have around 1000 albums , but these days I only buy albums by my favourite artist that I don’t have . I also have around 2000 CD’s which I used to play in the car ( the CD’s replaced the 6-700 cassettes I used to play in the car ) these days I subscribe to a streaming service that I play in the car ( probably around 5000 albums on there ) I like the streaming service as I can listen to the new album releases and decide if it’s worth getting ( sadly I haven’t found a lot of new stuff that I considered buying ) there also seem to be a lot of Live stuff from the 70-80’s coming out . Then of course I have around 600 Music DVD’s .. Then reality hit me in early August when I had a massive heart attack, and nearly died ( 5 days after I found out I had Cancer, and have to wait till March to have it operated on . Sorry , I digress .. bottom line , I don’t have anyone in the Country that can sort out all my “ Stuff “.. so I’ve decided to get rid/sell off all of it , otherwise the government people who come round to dispose of all your “ Stuff “ , just throw it in a truck and take it to the tip .. (I’m a Bassplayer , so I’ve already started selling off a lot of my gear as well …
Very cozy!

Just buy what you like to listen to. Discovering new music keeps that sense of wonder alive that you first had when you bought your first albums. Phil
