      I think you'll all find the more you prepare for your story, the more you'll learn. Look at videos about outlining, Abbie has some. And as valuable as I think prep is, sometimes just writing helps, like sitting down and putting down anything. Say what kinds of issues you're having with not writing, talk about the ideas, if it's not coming out right, if you feel self-conscious, frustrated, whatever about your story. Jif the characters aren't formed enough. Just write. You'd be surprised what will come out of it. Our subconscious creates it more once we start writing. Plus writing is a practice. If you write, you'll create the habit.
      Those are both proven. So write. And if you need to plan more, you can do so once you write enough to find that out.

    I come up with story ideas by daydreaming in lessons... sometimes they're constantly stuck in my head that I pretend I'm the characters in the story and act it out to myself in my room... I want to write a story where I can actually get to feel and "see" the characters. That way they would no longer be just part of my imagination and have life. I will write it. I will post it. I can do it.

    What I love about picking a non realistic setting is that you can mold the world in a way that best fits the truth you want to convey. For example: I'm writing a story on what it means for something to be real, so I set it in a world that slowly starts losing its realistic integrity.

    Okay, but seriously, I also instantly go to make a Pinterest board!! Thanks for the tip about adding 'aesthetic' to it though :)
    I like to collect music as I work on my book. I'll be listening to music, and be like 'THIS IS MY BOOK'. Music totally helps make the mood of your book 1000% better. I love soundtrack music: movies are great for this, and there are so many awesome artists out there who make music that doesn't have any words. Just instruments and vocals. And I love listening to that when I'm writing. 🎧
    And I totally try to give my WIPs working titles. Like, I have one for a book I'm currently working on, but I also feel like it's not THE one. Yet I'm growing attached to it at the same time. 😂

    • @saraoln
      @saraoln 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, that part of growing attached is actually me 😊. I also love creating soundtracks to listen to while I'm outline or matching some of the songs that I really like into a character's personality. The words also really help inspire me. If you haven't tried it, look at some of your favorite songs and see how it can connect to your story or character. That may also help to recognize new ideas 👍🏻.

    • @juliaherkel8051
      @juliaherkel8051 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Danielle Koziol I like to listen to music in general, and sometimes I just can imagine my characters with it, or else it fits the vibe of my book. I happen to have been collecting lots of instrumental music for a long time, so I have a lot to choose from - but if you don't know what songs to start with, I'd suggest searching up the mood you want in TH-cam. Music is usually also on here, and you can search by mood or vibe instead and then add them to your playlist when you find one you like. :) I hope that helps!

      Same, I love making boards for my ideas and my novel series ideas has a bunch for the main characters and the world building is purely aesthetics of their people and places. I also have a soundtrack that always helps ground me to the start so can play it in my head and make sure the boards don't take over (which can lead to huge changes that I later regret)

I thought I was weird for making playlists for screenwriting and book ideas, but hearing you talk about them - actually the way you talk about music full stop is precisely how I feel about it. Genre: mystery family-friendly thriller
    Theme: My protagonist will find herself in love with reading and one day gets sucked into one of her favourite books
    Meet my protagonist: She has long, brown hair and bland, plain brown eyes that she wishes had a tint of hazel. She loves reading and really wants to become a writer one day but she is scared people will make fun of her because she doesn't think she is that good. She thinks the world is judgemental and the only people she trusts is her family. She also is a bit of a bookworm. (okay she is definitely a bookworm)
    Describe my vibe: Thrilled, suspenseful and satisftied.
    Pick a location: In a busy city, with still a good amount of greenery surrounding modern buildings.
    BONUS TIP=
    Make an aesthetic board on Pinterest.
    Working title: Lost in a book
    (this is just me writing down the info so feel free to skip past the comment or give any feedback in my replies)

      This sounds great so far! The story is pretty reminiscent of things like Ready Player One and others, but that's certainly not a bad thing. Some of the best, and my favorite books are alike to other works. For example, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children are actually quite similar in plot, yet they all have different hooks and settings to stand out. So, what I'm saying is that little elements and changes to common themes go a long way in making your story really YOUR story. :) Perhaps you could make it so that your protagonist can go into any book, willingly or not, and when she returns to the real world, she retains some aspect of that book- that could be powers, people, lessons, or even just an outfit. You of course don't have to use this idea, it's just an example of what you can do to distinguish your book from other media.
      Another thing I'd like to mention is that I think you mixed up what the "theme" section really means. What you described sounded more like a setting to me, which is definitely an important part for a book, but it's not a theme. (Keep in mind that what I'm describing is a little new to me too, but I think I have a grasp on it from Abbie's videos.) A theme is something that you truly believe in, and you would like to share with the world through your story. A misbelief is a lie that your character believes in, and throughout the story they will learn the truth. I hope that makes sense! Now, the great thing is that it seems like you already have a misbelief figured out for your main character- that everyone but her family is untrustworthy and judgmental. This is a lie. The reverse to this, or the truth, would be that there are good people in the world that will care for and help her other than her family. You also have a more minor lie in that she is a bad writer, and she likely doesn't think that will change. The truth for this one is that she just needs to be more confident in her writing and take steps to improve. Those truths are likely going to be your themes.
      I'm sorry for the complete wall of text, but I hope this helps with your story! :D

    Here’s my storyline. For info, the stories named Dreamscape.
    A small girl named Serenity Bridgets, put into a coma due to an unfortunate accident including two other victims. Her mind, travelling into the depths of her unconscious, falling into the land of the Dreamscape.
    How’s that?
    Also please no copy.
    Edit: This comment is so compliment hungry.

      sounds like it could be very interesting. i would say her name is too strange to be relatable for a main character, and it sounds unrealistic. i'd say you might want to come up with a different name other than dreamscape as well. maybe leave the name of this subconscious world a mystery?

    I watched this video a few days ago and at your playlist suggestion I was like, "cool idea but yeah, probably not going to do that." Then today I heard a song that reminded me of my book, so I went ahead and started making a playlist for it and now I have just spent the last half hour thinking of songs faster than I can add them to the playlist and OMG I CAN'T STOP IT'S SO FUN! Thanks, Abbie! :)

    I really appreciated this video and the tips you give in there. I've seen a few of your videos, but I generally alredy do what you suggest.
    But this once it really helped me. I have a problem when writing because I can easely lead the story in a very diffrent way than the one it was supposed to go and I had troubles fixing that some times.
    Your advices, especially at the start of your vid, made me remember a few stuff about what is important in a story and what makes someone being interested in it, and how to keep them like that. I have a lot of work to do now, but I had to say... THANK YOU! 😉
