The daytime investigation was of a murder. One Valerie Agnes Riley had been beaten to death at 133 Augusta Ave on Sept. 18, 1958. The address, then just south of Dundas, no longer exists. The houses and shops you see were demolished, and the street itself torn up and removed, in order to build the public housing which now occupies the area.
Beautiful filmography. That’s the Tarana I remember. I recognize the old Brown Derby at Yonge and Dundas and good old Norms Open Kitchen at the corner of Dundas East and Pembroke. The rest could be anywhere. The good old days.
Fascinating! So many questions, I often wonder if any of the people in these images are alive. What would be their memories of that day they were in that image. People appear less stressed, less medicated.

Not one fat body. Ralph Kramden would be considered slim today.
cops back then looked like real cops ,no ball caps or shorty shorts.
I love these old videos
2 door police cars! I've never seen that before

That's when Toronto was a great place to live. Not so in 2024..
Arrests do draw a crowd back then…better than television! Nice background piano…Law and order needs a soundtrack.

I never knew that we didn’t have lights or markings on police cars in 1958. Weird.
Great footage!
I think you had to be at least 6' 2" to be a cop back then.
At 3:56 there is a guy with an Adolf mustache. Weird to see
Thanks for posting
When cops didn't dress like stormtroopers. They looked respectable.
Respect for the police back then
Most of the footage involved the people punching the police while being arrested
Rumour has it ...
They are still trying to figure out who done it...
Cooler cars than today
where do you get this footage?
this is interesting indeed, I was in Toronto for two years 2008 2010
I’m interested to know more about this crime scene in Little Italy
I wish it was 1958 now, at least we were a homogenous people for the most part back then.
This is wild!
see anybody you know???
TPD simply the best
Why?
The naked city !
What are they being arrested for?
Interesting how much more "British " their uniforms looked back then... why the arrests?
Toronto the not so good 🤣
Arresting them for what?
When police knew how to do their job properly!
