Holy cow! That’s amazing! Thanks for sharing! My cousin went to O’Neil CVI high school back in the late 80s! He worked as an automotive technician after high school at the GM plant.
I was living there then. I was 14. So nice to see again. It went passed my best friends house who passed 17 years after this was taken. Thank you for posting
Cool video. It was taken the year before I started working downtown Oshawa. Some things are exactly the same and some are drastically different. Thank you for posting it!!
I just stumbled across this and it's so cool to see in many different ways. Been here all my life and it's so cool to be able to go back. The roads and buildings and the cars. I was a Chevette fan and I lost count of how many you caught on camera. Mind you they were everywhere and everyone had at least one. Or more. I had several and I'd love to find another one maybe I can use your video's to track one down 😜. Anyway super cool and looking forward to seeing what else you have going on. This is truly a great service what you are doing here. Who doesn't want to go back to simpler times every now and again. 👍👍👍🇨🇦🔧
I thank you for the comments, but Chevettes! Really ? They were awful, not particularly good on gas, horrible braking etc etc. Oshawa was full of them because so many families got the employee discount back then.
Weird seeing A&P in Teddys Plaza. Wow, what a trip back in time. Weird seeing buildings on corners that are vacant now. I lived in Oshawa from 1989-2012. I seen alot of changes in that time. I bet alot has changed since 2012. I kinda miss it. I lived and learned all my life lessons there. Great Video!
So sad what we lost these last 37 years. This brings back so many memories. Summer of '87' I drove down these roads almost daily working as a construction inspector. It was super hot heat waves back then compared to the cooler summers now.. Don't believe the climate narrative. People were nice and society was cohesive because we were homogeneous racially.
WOW. Oshawa had changed dramatically in 37 years. Also, I love the older cars on the road. I was born in 87 so you may have inadvertently came across my parents 1982 Oldsmoblie Omega drifting about.
Starts on wilson rd, right on bond to ritson, lots of gm buildings still there. To 4 corners at bond and sincoe park , gibbons , left on stevenson, left on king and back to downtown very cool
I loved seeing all the old cars, trucks and vans. I lost count of how many Gremlins were on the road.😄 I didn't grow up here, only been here since 2007. Thanks for sharing.👍🚗🖤✌️
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. the Marks, Odeon ,Regent and Hyland theatres and the Genosha Hotel still open. just starting to tear down the GM North plant and the Hospital parking lot wasn't built yet..
I was a teenager back then when you filmed this, but I lived next door in Whitby. What's really striking is the easy flow of traffic compared to Oshawa now.
lol I never watched past Belvedere as it was late last night, but now I watched whole thing, AWESOME!!! From Wanamaker at park and king to old cliff mills, Teddys with north parking WOW list goes on. 👍👍 Let’s not forget the Chevettes lol rofl 🤣
Wow. I did just stumble upon this and knew the street you left from immediately to my surprise. Considering I grew up on Keewatin St. and went to Athabasca!!
This cruise starts on the street. I was born on which is Belvedere. it drives right by 1125 which is at the corner of Labrador and Belvedere My House. then it drives bythe Mankies house and turns left just passed Mr. Starr‘s house who was a Magnavox dealer In the 70s. I wonder if Michael Mankies s father still has the 71 Chevelle I wonder. then it turns on highway 2 off I believe Eastlawn and goes west towards Grandview. this is beautiful.
Glad you liked my 40 plus year old video. I remember a Meyer family living a couple houses down from the Harts. Little foggy on the details, but I think they moved, as I remember a pretty blonde girl moving in afterward. Jeff Virgin
Wow, did that trip 1000s of times! Must have been ‘85-89, the downtown movie theatres are still going, and the Globe Restaurant had burned down (‘84, I think).
Haha seeing the 76 olds delta 88 at the beginning brought back some grt memories. In 89 was driving a 75 delta and lucky gas was 40 cents a liter as they got 8 mpg if u were lucky.
So cool to watch. I didn’t grow up in Durham-or in Canada for that matter...and now, I drive by a lot of these parts of Oshawa often. Just amazing to figure out where and what things used to be. Thanks for sharing this!
Yup I think I mite have been about ten when this was done and ya all the malls are open on king just wow I'm 45 now and lived in this town my hole life thankyou.....
To be fair Angela, the camera was on a tripod in the bed of pick-up truck. I am sure we were talking, you just couldn't hear us, because we were in the cab of the truck.
Right! Had a family gathering yesterday….we had all watched it and everyone noticed different things so I am going to watch it again! Thanks for getting back to me!@@hopeyoustumbleuponthis.8627
I was wondering about that too. So what make you guys decide to do that Jeff? Were you budding videographers at that time. Were any other former Donevan students involved?
What an awesome video!! FYI, TH-cam has a video stabilization option that might work really well for this video. You might want to compare the results and see if it might be worth uploading a stabilized version.
OMG 😢😢 That is my late brother. Yes we lived 2 doors down from Harts, beside Jesons. Best time of my life in the 70s. I have lost everybody ,thank you and God bless you for this 😢. I went back to see if someone got my post or if it worked lol. Who are you? I know internet is crazy , don’t know how to send private message but you have really made me feel a lot better. It has been hard since my Mother’s and brothers passing so short time ago. God Bless Thank You.
Ok. I grew up in Whitby but spent lots of time in Oshawa for work and fun. I remember loving Mother's as a little kid. Was there a train track that ran right near that Mother's, probably out of the North Plant? If yes, where did the track run? Thanks
They would have done better filming on a brighter day too. It's fascinating, but really dark. Colour would have improved it. Oshawa was great and much simpler then.
I lived right where this starts for a number of years. Quite the nostalgia tour of the Shwa.
Great video, roads were so clean. All the old stores and seeing all that's gone.
Holy cow! That’s amazing! Thanks for sharing!

this belongs in a museum. But seriously you should see if the Oshawa Museum would like a copy
Cool video. It was taken the year before I started working downtown Oshawa. Some things are exactly the same and some are drastically different. Thank you for posting it!!
this was really neat to watch as a 20 year old who was born and raised here, much looks the same but so different at the same time! thanks for sharing

Hasn't changed that much

Thank you for posting! What a time capsule this is. Amazing.

Wow! Cool. Oshawa still pretty much looks the same. Expect downtown looks nicer back then, then it does now.
lol I never watched past Belvedere as it was late last night, but now I watched whole thing, AWESOME!!! From Wanamaker at park and king to old cliff mills, Teddys with north parking WOW list goes on. 👍👍 Let’s not forget the Chevettes lol rofl 🤣
Thanks for the ride down memory lane... literally 😊

Had time to think about it, There was Doug Mayer ?
It’s amazing to see how something’s are completely different, and other things are exactly the same. I’d love to see someone do this same drive today.
I will do it, and post it soon
This is so neat can't wait to see the remake!😄
Remake is up.
Awesome video... videos like these are why I do videos of cities today.
Harmony Rd as a two lane, oh the memories
Right in those nostalgic feels!!!
It's gone forever all we have left is memories 💔
Wow, did that trip 1000s of times! Must have been ‘85-89, the downtown movie theatres are still going, and the Globe Restaurant had burned down (‘84, I think).
Thanks so much for sharing🙏🏼

What was the name of the theater on the south side of King Street near the bar the "Atria" ? Was that the Odeon ?
So cool to watch. I didn’t grow up in Durham-or in Canada for that matter...and now, I drive by a lot of these parts of Oshawa often. Just amazing to figure out where and what things used to be. Thanks for sharing this!
drove right by my house!! so cool!!
Yup I think I mite have been about ten when this was done and ya all the malls are open on king just wow I'm 45 now and lived in this town my hole life thankyou.....
so cool, great history
Just saw this….what a hoot! Cheeky driving on Golf St. And I think it is so funny that the guys don’t utter a word through the whole drive! Loved it!!
To be fair Angela, the camera was on a tripod in the bed of pick-up truck. I am sure we were talking, you just couldn't hear us, because we were in the cab of the truck.

Thanks, I will look into it.
It's so much the same, yet so different. I didn't know there was a gas station at 10:04. Cool!

Jeff Virgin, I lived at 106 Grandview.

Thanks man share more if you got any
Love it what year was this
1980
1987
I moved there in 89 still live here use too be safe place to live
Any railway crossing footage from all over Ontario?
I lived in Oshawa since 2022, lots of road can't be recognized 😅
Lol absolutely love it
This is cool!
I lived off harmony back in 89 good time back then
Loved the lack of military sized vehicles on the road back then compared to now
Back when a truck was a truck, and not a genatalia substitute.
Man this looks like the 80's lol
What year was this video filmed on?
As it says in the description mid eighties.
@@hopeyoustumbleuponthis.8627 Ops didn't see that. But thanks.
Is tha Mother's Pizza at around 14:30?
Yes and before that it was Sproul's Grocery store.
Ok. I grew up in Whitby but spent lots of time in Oshawa for work and fun. I remember loving Mother's as a little kid. Was there a train track that ran right near that Mother's, probably out of the North Plant? If yes, where did the track run? Thanks
@@Brackcycle Yes it did, I would have to look up the street names though.
@@Brackcycle I loved Mothers too, I even have a couple of glasses still.
Everything sure does change a lot since the 80's.
I did a couple of videos driving through Oshawa for summer 2023 posted on my channel.
this is very blurry
Imagine 40 year old video filmed from the back of a truck being a little blurry!
They would have done better filming on a brighter day too.
It's fascinating, but really dark. Colour would have improved it.
Oshawa was great and much simpler then.
I was 15 then
I'm Oshawa as fck.
❤❤❤
Weird seeing no hooker fights and homeless people
I have a suspicious feeling that this video will blow up oit of nowhere
7K views at the time of writing this
Crazy
at 03:33 You can see someone get stabbed
Before trucks dominated the roadways.
This is very neat. Living here my whole life I've noticed.....even in this.....Oshawa hates trees and loves huge useless boulevards
🤟😎🤟
@@deanbrown5658 and some unintelligible emojis to you too
Hmm now you see Teslas everywhere my my has the times changed
The dirty Shwa.
Not so much in the 80's large Poppa
@@hopeyoustumbleuponthis.8627 I grant you it was better I lived there then and moved in 2018. Good video.
Still upset that there is no more million dollar saloon anymore😂
I thought that was a strip club ?
