  • Lack (1846-1921) was a French pianist and composer who studied under Antoine François Marmontel (pianoforte), Lefébure-Wély (composition) and François Bazin (harmony). He started teaching piano in Paris in 1863 and achieved acclaim as a piano pedagogue. A very precocious boy, he was appointed organist in his native town at the age of 10 and held this post until he entered the Paris Conservatory in 1860. He graduated in 1864 as winner of many prizes. The same year he was appointed teacher of pianoforte at the Conservatory. He published a piano method, for which he won Claude Debussy to contribute a piece, The Little Nigar. He never left Paris after his admission to the Conservatory.
He was known as representing "the finest of salon music".

Very elegant salon music indeed with evocative embellishments depicting attractively the fun of "etoiles filantes" (we still use them, but only in carnival period, in Italy).
Your interpretation was very appropriate and accurate. I think you didn't miss any single note of the embellishments

I played from another version pianophilia in fact, which has some additional embellishments. I have some struggle with my piano/vst plugin for these kinds of ornaments, but that's really the best I can do right now. It's a bit of a shame, because I believe I could put out much more emotion on a real grand

@@PianoScoreVids you'll do on a grand whenever you have an opportunity. However it was sufficiently good, anyway, on your current instrument

      just playing what's written there

Why it's written in A flat? Why not C so that I can play those rapid scales with glissando. I think it will be fun. Hahaha 😂

      Haha nice idea ^^

There is something special about the clarity of a rapid leggiero passage just sparkling with each note... can be done with a glissando too, sure, but takes much more technique and a really nice instrument to pull off. Plus there's the visual display of your fingers' prowess and agility, surely a super important aspect of such a flashy piece in its day;-)
