    A number of people do not like Lack because they only know a few of his bunch of "salon pieces", whose Lack is mostly remembered.
    To my taste those pieces are very pleasant and well written and, incidentally, salon music has often got its own dignity. Something is very good, something good, something just OK, something poor likewise everything else in music or fine arts.
    I appreciate some people may dislike salon music as a whole, but I am afraid taste is an individual story and each of us has got his/her own!
    However Lack is not only "salon music" and the things I heard (mostly from you because others very seldom explore Lack, except salon) are extremely interesting and sometimes excellent, deserving a lot more knowledge.

      the irony is that Chopin, in this final analysis, wrote mostly salon music. Much of his output is mazurkas, waltzes and nocturnes.

    Another composer I'd never heard of before. Thank you for the tribute, and for the beautiful performance.

    So Schumannesque It could be included in Op 124 Albumblätter. I know his célèbre Idilio. Very musical composer with so much music to explore. Excellent performance.

    Bravo, Gamma. I am a great admirer of Lack's compositions, always very elegant and very pianistic. I have uploaded numerous pieces by him on IMSLP. I am very glad to hear this Etude de Bravoure, so well played. I wish you are going to play some others form the same collection. Thank you.

      I thought it was a good idea to clarify that indeed I don't just copy audio files from somewhere but actually play and interpret everything on my own. It's a quite personal channel that way :)

    Have you ever been interested in tuning your piano to an unequal temperament? I think it would greatly enhance your already beautiful piano playing.

    • @PianoScoreVids
      @PianoScoreVids  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How does the choice of temperament of a piano enhance the piano playing? Do you have a concrete suggestion?

    • @xavierviolin
      @xavierviolin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PianoScoreVids There are several different tunings of unequal temperament (not equal temperament). The best types are ‘closed unequal temperaments’, as they can be used for all 24 keys. ‘Thomas Young’ and ‘Kirnberger’ tuning is good for 18th and 19th century playing, and Kellner tuning is more versatile I think. The point of unequal tuning is to favour keys close to C in the circle of fifths (meaning purer intervals, especially thirds) and making the tonality brighter or darker the further away you go from C. This effect is very mild, but it was used since Bach, all throughout the 19th century and even into the 20th century. A move towards atonality and the rise of German piano manufacturers in Europe standardised equal temperament (all keys sounding the same). Another benefit to keys having their own associated characters is the fact that the piano becomes even more resonant (as a result of the pure intervals). Unfortunately most piano tuners can only tune in equal temperament, so you’ll have to find someone who is very good and can tune in closed unequal temperaments.

      very detailed info, thanks! since the pianos I use are digital (but good) anyway, I am not sure if those rather subtle differences would make a significant difference in the output, I can imagine it will make a big difference on a real grand. I will never forget for example how the meantone temperament sounds on a real, original harpsichord from the 17th century.... a chromatic scale is the nearest to a musical representation of someone crying in that case... however some intervals can make the hair stand ...
