What did we all think of the Indie Direct today then? I've been excited for this one but a little disappointed honestly! Grab your eshop credit over at www.cornershop.gg with instant delivery and get 10% off with code CORNER at checkout!
I thought the Indie Direct was another boring display that crashed the hopes of anyone who witnessed it. Unless you are an extreme fan of chill, musical based story games then you had to waste 20 minutes to see that nothing was interesting. The only game that looked even remotely appealing was the Gunbrella game but that isnt until next year for its release.
Extremely solid review. I picked this up hoping the endless mode might be a bit like Alto's Adventure/Odyssey, which I love. Unfortunately, the lagging/freezing gets really bad at times, and does ruin the experience after awhile. Keep in mind I'm usually the person defending games that get criticized for lagging, so for me to complain you know it must be bad. That said, the story is solid - my spouse is from Malaysia, where these monkeys live, so it hit a bit close to home, and I loved it. I just hope the devs fix those performance issues, and perhaps give us a bit more reason to come back to endless mode (maybe look at the Alto games for reference - they definitely got it right).
@@InnerRise Huh? I did play this on Switch. That's why I commented on a review of the game published on a Switch games review channel. To be fair, there are several mobile games that have turned into decent console ports - and vice versa. This one just happens to have some performance issues. Still tells a powerful message, though, whatever the medium.
Join the club! I love everything about it, love the game, love that soundtrack too lol

I've just bought it, v1.9.2. After playing for 40min, I don't think there were major issues. A few visual glitches, but the performance was ok overall. I do like gibbons a lot, so the game is just perfect for me.
You’ve come through once again! This one had my curiosity with the nice art, relaxing feel, and smooth movements. Cursed to Golf, Another Crab’s Treasure, ElecHead, and Mini Motorways were the others I’m looking forward to
great review, I was hesiting between this and eiyuden chronicles rising, I'll wait to see if they patch the framerate problem. I'll buy eiyuden chronicles rising now hoping if it sell well, they realise it's worth the effort to release hundred heroes on switch next year.
Got this for my pc. I agree with you on the controls, and lack of feeling really in "control". As a result, got bored pretty fast. Might have been fun on the ipad, but with a controlpad, it feels more like I'm just watching than really "playing"
personally I think switch is the PERFECT platform for apple arcade game. INMOST and down in bermuda are my favorites from AA. Lazy ports from any platform are subpar though, and I wont admit that every apple arcade game is a perfect fit.
@@SwitchCorner I havent played grindstone, but I can tell its a masterpiece lol. You can just tell with some games that the devs knew what they were doing.
What a surprise, frame rate issues in a Switch game... and an iPhone port at that!!? Seeing this happen so frequently on my favorite system has me depressed. It's just too bad the technology powering the Switch was so underpowered from the get-go... or that there isn't better quality control for these types of games.
From the get-go? It was one of the most powerful handheld devices when it launched, especially considering battery life. I don't know where people got the "outdated at launch" narrative from. Or is it just because it's not a PS4/XB1?
I don't understand how a mobile game is having frame rate issues on a console even if it is the Switch. Just because a game can be ported does not mean it should. Definitely not interesting enough for me although the visuals do look nice.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. Lackluster games and some so far out into the future as to be completely irrelevant to me.
Also didnt like the indie direct...
it was disappointing and boring BUT crab souls looks kinda cool
@@theflea9091 I forgot about that one. It did seem to have some charm. Just wonder how soulslike it actually will be.
Sounds like a fair review and fair warning to anyone that has not purchased yet, thank you!
I wonder if they’ve patched the issues out, as SRG is doing a limited run of it. Looks stunning. I might buy it!
Someone commented that they got it for less than a dollar in the sale but it still has the issues. That was a couple days back
@@SwitchCorner that’s a shame. I’d buy the physical release if it worked well, but it just doesn’t seem worth it in the current state.
I just got it for 99 cents, there are still framerate drops, but considering the discount price rn it's worth it

But you didn't play this on switch .
I thought this was an original game, not a phone port.
Immediately lost interest.

I agree, some great Apple Arcade games on the switch. A personal favorite it grindstone, it’s not far off a masterpiece for puzzle fans
@@SwitchCorner Grindstone is amazing. The only problem I have with it is the number of hours it's stolen from me, ha...

I guess I'll wait for a patch and another sale before picking this up again! Thanks Mr. Corner!

i'm also super-psyched for gunbrella
Really appreciate the honesty.
Bought this after the direct. Your review seems spot on! Shame / still enjoying its beauty.

Developers please 🙏 make this game run smooth 🙏with a patch please 🙏it has so much potential 🙏
Man and I was looking forward to this one too. I guess maybe after a patch or a price drop
That's such a shame. it looks like a lovely game. Hopefully we'll see a patch come through, but for me it's a no at this time.
Too bad, I liked the look of this one, but maybe a patch will fix things up a bit. Sounds like you're feeling better, glad to hear it! :)
Thanks for your efforts Alex
Great review as always Alex. 👏
Did they patch it up yet?
The game is ok now and on sale for just £1.19.
This one is wait for a patch and maybe a sale.

My favorite has to be Grindstone! A lot of games from Apple Arcade deserve more credit!

@@SwitchCorner I also like that the simplistic nature of most of them gives them a chill vibe.
Inmost dragged for me.
@@InnerRise thats ok. no game appeals to everyone.
It looks interesting but being very short game and a little buggy is a downer for me and a easy skip.
This should've just stayed in apple arcade or at least be free to play on the Switch.

it ain't gibbon me any vibes and the frame rate issues will make me monkey angry
Stunning visual. But too bad about the janky frame rate and the overly too simple gameplay.
Hard pass for this one. Thanks for the review!
An hour long and frame rate issues? I'll pass
