    honestly. in the years that I've been working with leather, I have never seen that technique with the thread and needle. how clever, I can't wait to use it!

    I actually really enjoyed the selective focus / shallow depth of field work. I agree photographically going for that distorted macro/micro effect through tilt/shit or even Lensbaby lenses can be overdone, but it's the first I'd seen it deployed on a leather video. It was quite contemplative and highlighted the process as process as opposed to a pedantic step-by-step follow-me paint by numbers approach. It was meant to give you some small sensation of the memory of working through the leather and how it all comes together. For those of you griping, I'd suggest that you talk to the University Chancellor - oh, you're not paying thousands of dollars in tuition for this video essay made out of love, I'm sorry, I mistook your comments as constructive and a reasonable critique of someone whose sole function is to ensure that you understand every minute detail of work he has probably refined and re-refined over years into something that works for him. We'll look forward to your Scorcese-like productions soon. Keep 'em coming. Lovely work!

    I loved the video....and then I read all of the comments...UGH !
    thank you for all that you DO NOT do:
    do not give the measurements (let people be creative and discover for themselves)
    do not tell where to buy leather supplies (let people discover)
    do not speak (let's just enjoy the craftsmanship)
    do not make a video like 1001 other videos doing the same thing.
    It was nice to just watch great craftsmanship in silence.....well all except for Wheel of Fortune in the background..hehe

    Hi Gary.. big fan of your videos and leather work. I know its been a while since you shot this video, but will it be too much trouble to shoot it again the next time you make one of these?? - I'm pretty sure you tried to compensate for auto focus messing with you video every time your hands or tools came closer to the lens. But, this shallow depth of field really did a number on your video. I could not keep track of what part of the notebook you where working on. Focus was too tight.

    I was just lucky enough to get 5 leather hides given to me. I have been searching for some easy leather projects to make and I ran across your channel. This notebook cover is something I'd be very interested in making. You make it look extremely easy. I've got a question though, what is the liquid that you used around the edges, was it just plain water? Then it looks like it may have been something different with the q-tip and what's the purpose for this. Thanks in advance and also for posting these videos. Very nice!

    • @garyipip
      @garyipip  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Susie LaLonde Thank you!!! The liquid used around the edges was water, the purpose is to moisturize the edge for burnishing!!! Burnishing is a very important process, it heats up the edge, gives a shinny edge!!! Happy sttiching!!!

    • @SusieLaLonde
      @SusieLaLonde 9 ปีที่แล้ว
