    This time I hope I can show you how this waist bag is made.
    some footage went missing, and I am sorry about it!!!
    it's the same leather I used to make the lady hand bag.
    • Making a simple leathe...
    leather: approximately 2.3 mm thick cow leather
    hope you enjoy!!!

    Even with the missing footage you are still miles ahead filming. The everyday sounds of your work and surroundings are so much better than dumb music, add the outstanding craftmanship and we have a WINNER!!!

    I find framing tools useful for cutting leather, especially when you get into the long lengths. Also I tend to use chalk pencils as well on the reverse of the leather for more complex designs.

    Gary, what was that piece you put in the bag at the end with the lanyard that attached to your belt? Also, I like that thin contact cement in the tube with the artist's knife - much easier to control than the rubber cement jar and brush that I use. What glue is that? Aren't those stainless steel pricking irons fantastic? I just started using those instead of the iron ones and they make it all so much easier. I could only find the 9, 4, and 1 prong - I'd like to get that 2 prong one for the curves.
    Oh, and I've go to say - for such a simple design, this is a fantastic piece. The ratio of the dimensions and the ruggedness of the leather choice and hardware really set it apart.

    • @garyipip
      @garyipip  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dheere Crossing Woodworks Hi, thank you!!! that thing attached to my belt is a belt loop, please check out this video th-cam.com/video/NFeKerP4dCA/w-d-xo.html
      The glue is what we call "yellow glue" in Hong Kong, it is a very cheap contact cement that usually used on leather work and woodcraft, I don't know the exactly name of it, I am sorry.
      The stitching iron is stainless, I have 1, 2, 4, and 6 prong, a good stitching iron will definitely make your life easier...
      happy stitching... best regards!!!

    Great video.... You know I work with contact cement a lot and I noticed your was a little thick. I use lacquer thinner to thin it out a bit. It really makes it a lot easier to apply.

    • @garyipip
      @garyipip  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Custom Woodwind and Brass Thank you!!! Yes, the contact cement I used is a Hong Kong brand, probably made in china. It is very nice to work with the first time you open the can, but after a few times of use, it gets thicker and thicker. I surely will try thinner, thanks for your tip!!! Best regards.

    First of all, this is one of the best leather-work projects i've seen, kudos for that.
    I was thinking of making a satchel but I have a question, why did you choose to work with dry leather? Is it because it is soft enough as it is, to shape it as you want, or water would have made it too soft to work with ?

    • @garyipip
      @garyipip  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Snuffying Thank you very much. The leather I used for this bag is quite thick, but very soft and flexible; this piece of leather was not meant to soak with water to take any form of shape!!! I did make a satchel with veg tan leather, I found traditional veg tan leather very good to craft with!!! If you are going to soak the leather with water, traditional veg tan is an excellent choice... happy stitching!!!

      Nem bonyolult a szabása, a pontos méreteket mondjuk nem lehet levenni a videóról, de én ezt ahhoz igazítanám, hogy milyenek a felhasználói igények. Nekem egy ilyen táska nagy lenne; én sokkal kisebbet csináltam magamnak pár éve (120x90x50, ez belső méretben kb. 120x85x45). Abba forgalmi, iratok, bankkártya, bérlet (mindegyik saját tartójában), kisebb bicska, fésű, öngyújtó, körömcsipesz, biciklipumpa-fej-adapter belefér egyszerre.. és még mindig van benne egy kicsi hely. :-)

    • @gyorgyhuszak9203
      @gyorgyhuszak9203 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Szia! Időközben sikerült elkészítenem. A méretet ahhoz a pénztárcához viszonyítottam amit belehelyezett. Olyat készítettem már. A tapasztalat a következő, hogy egy nagy és nehéz ez a táska, hogy az övre függesztve hordjuk. Némi átalakítással válltáskát lehet készíteni. A záródás pedig ötletes mert egy zsúfolt villamoson vagy metrón nehezen nyúl bele egy zsebes.

    Did you make that braided strap? If so please let me (us) know how. Actually all I really need to figure out is how to end it and how long the leather straps need to be prior to braiding them. It's a 4 strand round braid correct? I would greatly greatly greatly appreciate it man. Super awesome work man, keep up the great job!!!

      @garyipip  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +CHUYTHEGREASER Yes, I braided myself!!! I used 4 pieces, each about 8 feet, started with a loop on the middle, making it 8 strands for braiding, turned out 18 inches finished!!! hmm... honestly, I didn't end it properly, I simply put the ends through some holes I found!!! I am sure i will make I video if I figure out the proper way!!! sorry buddy!!!

    nice design, a few questions: 1) the stud closure is allright with the empty bag? I have a similar satchel and I find difficult to close it with that, when is almost empty, I was considering to pass to a buckle closure for my next work. 2) why no burnishing the edges? also what kind of leather is that? keep up the good work

    • @garyipip
      @garyipip  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dany Raven Thank you!!! Yes, when the bag is empty, it is more difficult to close, but not so bad!!! This kind of leather is very soft which cannot be burnished!!!

      @garyipip  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      T Cha Thank you!!! No, that is not veg tan leather, I don't know what kind of tan was that, sorry, I only knew it was cow leather!!! Best regards.

      garyipip Veg tan is tanned using a natural process and no chemicals and done with charcoal. If you buy in wholesale it will be an almost white color and usually really thick similar to a belt thickness. Thanks for the video and showing your skills! Learned a few new tricks from ya :) and I like a few of the tools you have that I don't!

    Идея хорошая,но много косяков.О нанесении клея молчу- каждый изгоняется как хочет.Перед склеиванием лицевой части- её лучше зашкурить.Пукля на замок?Не лучший вариант.Кстати,петля на клёпках тоже.Ну и финишная обработка где?От неё зависит сколько вещь проживёт.

    What kind of thread were you using? It doesn't look like typical sinew.

      Thank you. I am new to leather-crafting. I am finding mostly 0.8mm - 1.0mm thread online. Is 2mm thread considered thick for leather sewing?
