These are the art books that have taught me how to paint portraits and figures. Some of them are not your typical art books. I will tell you how and why they inspire me. They have shaped my career and helped me to create my OWN path to becoming a professional portrait painter.
These books teach the basics to portraiture but also they promote individuality.

I’m teaching myself oil painting and I’m considering buying “portrait painting atelier” and “classical painting atelier” that you recommended. Do you think absolute beginner like me can learn how to paint well from these books or are there better books? Thank you for this video!

Hi Anri. First thanks for watching 🙏🏻 If you want to learn as if you are attending an Atelier, then yes. But probably just one of these books will do the job. I would highly recommend for a second book “Alla Prima ll “by Richard Schmid. I refer back to this book more than any other. 🎨👩🏼‍🎨
