I once blew the breakers of a garage with my face. The PA we were using wasn't grounded properly. My mouth touched the metal screen on the mic, and BLAM, electricity through face, body, guitar, amp, wall. :-D
You all prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
I couldn't participate in the live session but YES THANK YOU to the Know Your Gear Family. Over $3000 has been raised by you! Every dollar counts and your contributions have made a huge difference. One of our recent graduates in Phoenix gave $4. That was all she could afford and felt bad. HECK NO! It's $4 more than we had. I told her I would round it up to $10. This is what it's all about. 5 students just graduated with the Phoenix chapter. Thank you again everyone! We will be taking donations through 12/1/2018.
Quilter Microblock 45 pedal amp is an awesome little amp that easily fits in a gig bag. I built one into a case for the Harmonicaster electric harmonica, added a couple of 4" Eminence speakers, a couple of tool batteries and I have a great little demo rig that's completely portable and has an isolated onboard power supply for pedals too. Guitarists love it. Loud enough for small clubs. With a Harmonicaster, a couple of spare keys, and 6-8 mini or nano sized pedals, it weighs less then 16 lbs.
If you want to shake up a build you should do something like I did. Got a squier strat for like $50. Put in fender CS 1969 pickups, cst Emerson 250k pots switches, fender 9 strings, graphtech nut/saddles/string trees, fender locking tuners and a brass block from GFS. Absolutely love it, it’s not a guitar to sell. It was a labor of love and my first guitar that I’ll keep forever
Cyb3r 3vil it wasn’t all at once but over the course of a year so I didn’t really feel it in my wallet at all. I’m glad I did it, but I don’t want to do it again. Good experience but I’d rather get a used higher end guitar and just enjoy it for what it is.
@@Tomekkplk I hear Yea I mean I'm guilty of putting more into a guitar then I should have I'm sure a lot of people are and there is some nice squire's out there $50 is real good price not Downing you at all just saying
It's a great way to learn how to do stuff...I did the same...from a cheap SE squier to a gilmour strat....when you get a more expensive one you will know how to fix stuff
My wife gave birth to our son this year, and I have almost completely redone my pedalboard. So having a baby is definitely not the end of gear - but if I had to choose I would have him over my modded DD20, new Reverb, new comp, new Overdrive every day. (All those pedals from Westminster Effects. 😁) Children are a blessing.
To the Ikea shelf question. The Henje, makes excellent pedalboards for super cheap. I made a double deck pedalboard from 1 Henje for less than $20 plus paint and velcro. If you keep it simple, you don't even need a hammer, screwdriver, or saw.
Having children is a very rewarding experience and of course very very expensive. That is why those who don’t have kids have much more money available to buy gear and other toys.
I agree with you about shipping. I shipped a Mesa Mark III thru Reverb and it looked ok on outside when guy received it but amp was majorly damaged inside by UPS. The buyer was super cool and went thru Reverb with the process for repair cost and it worked out. I packed it well (but messy and awkward cause there wasn’t a perfect box).
Baby first, sell him/her to fund new gear. Edit: I am joking of course, now I only keep have a single shirt and pants to save money, I eat once every two days to save and buy gear.
Downtown Phoenix and rush hour traffic is NEVER a great experience. My condolences for your having to endure that mess. It's beginning to remind me of the Ventura Fwy in LosAngeles when I escaped California for a better life style back in 1995.
My 78 JMP 50 watt head and 71 4x12 used at home/ band practice but the 1936 cab( 80's with GT75's) my gig rig! Smaller a 79 Deluxe Reverb! Bought at GC 4 yrs ago, just put on show room floor for $300😳
So, here's one thing I've noticed now that I'm old. You can definitely have enough babies, but you can never have enough gear. "Fewer babies, more gear".
On draining voltage from Capacitors(Filter Caps)... even if you "think" you've completely drained a Capacitor, they can have residual voltage that will creep back up. You have to leave the drain lead on for quite a while and then leave a Multi-meter on to verify the voltage hasn't come back up whilst working on Tube Amps.
If you have invented a capacitor that recharges itself when not connected to voltage you should be a zillionaire!!!! If you properly isolated and discharged a cap voltage will not "creep back up".
Hey Phil! My daughter is almost two years old. Does that mean I'll be able to buy gear soon?! ahahahaha I'm sure the question was asked in jest, but kids are great man. No NGD can compare to the quick succession of milestones and special moments that come with parenthood. I don't miss the gear; if anything, I miss the sleep.
The problem with Hennings reviews of Harley Benton products is that they are not unbiased. He has a connection with them. Your reviews are the only ones we can trust to be an honest review.
Hello Phil, greetings from Cornwall in the UK. I have around a dozen Vintage guitars, some bought new, some second hand. If you ever see a guitar from series called the Advance Series used, buy it. It was a higher range that was available for a short time which was then kind of absorbed into the Fret King range. Some of those designs have kind of come back for the newer guitars in the Reissued Series. Great guitars, the guys in the Gene Simmons Band play Vintage, worth contacting them again. Both Vintage and Fret King originate from John Hornby Skewes in the UK, who approached RBI to distribute their guitars. There's some lovely people at JHS, perhaps send them an email about reviewing their guitars? You might get a better response by going directly to them, worth a try. Cheers, Ronnie
I have been playing guitar for 40 years and just don’t see a need for “true temperament” anything. Innovation is fine but practicality and functionality are way more important. I have heard thousands of great guitarists playing on imperfect instruments for years and don’t feel like I have been missing out on anything. Remember that perfect tone and amp sounds all kind of get lost in the mix once you are actually playing in a band. SRV did not use Dumbles every time he played live but still projected his tone with his hands.
The Ikea picture shelves for the pedals are here. Very reasonable between $7.99 and $12.99, depending on style and length. I'm going to need to get 4 of the 45", I think: www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/decoration/16305/
Hey Phil any tips on routing out a hollow body like a Gibson es330 with dog ear p90s to convert it to humbuckers? I sent you an email to see if you'd be interested in something like that bit got a reply saying probably not and that's totally cool, so I figure I'll give it a shot myself before I take it to anyone local.
@Buddysimo Simonetta i like full size humbuckers over mini's. Never really preferred mini humbuckers over anything. I don't think they sound bad, I would just keep the p90's over them.
Hey Phil ...I'd say no on the guitar fetish parts. The "slick" branded parts are already the "high end" parts. The point is to improve the quality of the parts right?
Hey phill, I was wondering if I should trade my voxac30vr for a vox mv50? I don't gig and im not sure what amp is going to sound better, does the voxmv have tube s in the preamp and the power section?
Harley Benton are great but they have been done to death, Michael Kelly would be good, also that guy mckenzie did destroy a HB because he said they were so bad
The Buzz Feiten Tuning stuff is absolute BS. He really ca play, but he got it all wrong with his reasoning for his tuning. He looked up the history of different tunings and a lot was misunderstood and things got twisted since some english terms are misleading due to the translation (original terms from german, latin, french from church organs etc.). The tuning he suggests is based on a very pseudo-accurate tuning that takes half an hour. If the temperature increases by one degree Celsius/Kelvin, all bets are off. It's not practical. If someone wants sweetened tunings for certain chords...go for it. I just got a problem charing a shitload of money, only branded luthiers can do it and add some Dan Brown-ish techniques to connect it falsely with historical tunings, I'll call it a money making crap that is messed up as soon as stage lights hit your instrument.
IT'S A WIN-WIN! If you pick having a baby, congrats, you're smart. We need more smart people. Society wins. If you pick gear, well... your genes won't be missed. Less fools. Society wins, too.

Re: Luggage. I used to get airlines to send delayed bags out in a taxi. They lost it, I'm not driving 40miles roundtrip for them.
In Australia, Queensland didn't want daylight savings, because the curtains/drapes would fade faster
So, here's one thing I've noticed now that I'm old. You can definitely have enough babies, but you can never have enough gear. "Fewer babies, more gear".
