  • The ATT annihilator cup returns! And with the addition of Modern Mode in SF6, no streamer is left without a button to mash! Big names like Lirik, JakeNBake, Yassuo and Emiru and many more duke it out with big money on the line... Will Modern Honda reign supreme? Or will Fundamentals save the FGC?

  • @TenjinZekken

    I want to say that Modern controls made this possible, and big props to ATT for including a fighting game in the lineup of otherwise all shooters. Fighting games really need this kind of exposure, the one time "Exposure" isn't just a meme.
    I think this in part shows that modern controls did what they set out to do, which was make it easier for new players to be able to do something in this game. Even though most of these guys are just randomly throwing out specials, but just being able to do more specials feels really good when you're first getting into fighting games.

    • @Hawko1313
      @Hawko1313 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      yeah, the decision making took priority. Execution was there, jake and lirik were both rewarded for that execution with their combo and parry game respectively. But knowing which autocombo, and when to jump or DI was a big enough decision tree to make even the simplest games entertaining. And as they got later in the bracket you slowly see a more complete game.

    I hope fighting game devs are watching this because there's some lessons to me learned here. Matches with Modern were way more fun to watch and (probably) play even to those without any knowledge in the game, but in the end the winner was still the only Classic user. Doesn't matter how much friction you reduce, you _still_ need to know the rules of the game and understand what's happening to win. Reducing the execution requirement is A step, but it's not THE step to really bridge the gap between new players and the FGC.
    GBVS had the right idea by introducing the simplified specials the way it did, but Rising making it so that they have no difference might be a mistake. The gap between a new player and an experienced one now becomes even larger since you effectively made combos impossible to drop and anti-airs that much easier with no drawback. And once new players drop the game in frustration for not getting to play, the remaining playerbase might just get bored since they have nothing else to improve upon. I hope I'm wrong because I really like the original GBVS, but I'm not optimistic for the competitive aspect of the game.

    • @Raxyz_0
      @Raxyz_0 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DrynSarcastic360 You missed the point entirely. It's not that Modern is inferior, it's that knowing the rules of the game is far more important than anything execution related.
      Jake plays classic because, like most of classic's users (myself included), he's familiar with it. He already knows the basic structure of a match and that's an edge that no autocombo or 1 button hadoukens can give you.

    To be honest. The honda spam is super harmful for anyone getting into the game. Sydeon was loving EVERYTHING about SF. The funny intro screens, the arcade mode, the wacky characters... until her first match of getting butt slam spammed. I get that it's easy to deal with for experienced players, but there's nothing in game that teaches you how to deal with it, much less punish it. Syd basically said that turned her off the game for good.

      There are better ways to express this. I usually comment on opponent's strengths - "your defense was insane", "I got mixed every time", "cool combos". And I think, the fact, that these can be said regardless of who won makes it a bit less jarring for the loser.

    honestly I don't think jakenbake should've been allowed in this tournament, or at least had some kind of handicap seeing as he's ranked plat. Though it is impressive how lirik almost won despite being gold
