      @@dquinn9482 I've been in FGC discord servers where people have constantly given me shit because they didn't like the character I play. Sometimes it's just jokes but many other times people were being dead serious. I've straight up had people say they don't even want to play me because of my character. Not to mention all the hate mail I've gotten recently while playing SF6 before I disabled my DMs on PSN. I've never been to my local but I wouldn't be surprised if similar things happen there too.
      I even had a whole arc where I tired to pick characters solely just to please the people in the servers I was in but I just ended up being miserable because I was forcing myself to play characters I have no interest in. It made me realize that in the end it's not worth it and i just went back to playing what I like.

    @10:00 this is kinda JP specific where you can't cancel OD Fireball or OD Command grab into Level 2. His Level 2 makes it so that you can't use Fireball or Command grab when it's out -- trying to cancel into the Level 2 through these moves has the game see it as there being a Fireball/Command Grab on the screen at the same time as the level 2, so the input just gets ignored.

    Thank you for addressing the Modern vs Classic controls. Some people I know have been pushing me to switch to Classic despite me being absolutely new to Street Fighter. Saying things like “You’re still using modern?” And “I would have been more impressed if it was classic.” I understand where it comes from but it still stung a little. Felt like any sense of achievement I had was sucked out and voided.
    I had initially given up on fighting games 7 years ago (after I tried SFV for a while) but seeing how they brought Modern controls to the table I decided to give it another go; I now enjoy the game a ton. I can’t wait to improve more. I’ll try not to let these comments dictate my mindset. After all, what you said holds a lot of truth.

    • @barbanegra232
      @barbanegra232 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah just play your game, some people like to think themselves elitist for playing on classic but ultimately it doesn't matter you play the way you have fun, it makes no sense to play in a way that makes you miserable.
      I understand that each has it's advantages but really what matters is what you enjoy, have you seen some of the most absurd controllers, on other fighting games people play them using more than 20 buttons on it with the singular purpose of doing specific moves with just sweeping their fingers in the line of buttons from left to right.
      The point is there are a lot of ways to experience and play fighting games if you find one that you like and feel comfortable with should be enough to play, regardless of what other players play with or say.
      Hate the game, not the playa.
      Also they hate us, cause they ain us.

    • @AkibanaZero
      @AkibanaZero ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A ton of FG people out there, especially the old guard, are super precious about motions, 6 buttons, links and other stuff. To them, that is Street Fighter and nothing will ever change their mind. They have forgotten that at some point they were talking smack about other highly regarded Capcom fighting games that had different control schemes (I believe MvC2 was initially seen as a scrub game because of magic series).
      I have been into this genre since SF2 and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that Modern is a massive boon for SF6. I've had plenty of solid matches with people in Battle Hub who were clearly new but the fact that they were on Modern allowed them to learn on the fly instead of getting completely steamrolled by someone with more experience. So keep at it and like Brian said, don't bother with haters. At the end of the day, it's the same game and we're all playing under the same rules. Winning and losing is all down to our individual skill and where we're at in our journey.

      Don’t listen to those people. I’m a Classic player myself but I do not understand this condescending attitude towards Modern players. Modern controls are more accessible to a bigger audience and that’s awesome. FGs are a very info rich genre, very technical, and Modern makes only one aspect of them slightly easier and that’s a win to me.

    I feel another thing worth noting is that if you're struggling against a character's strong suit, looking for a one-size-fits-all solution might not even be possible.
    It's important to recognize that at some points you just have to look for mitigation, and that, in certain situations, you're just straight up screwed.
    Characters, especially higher tiered ones, have their strong points where there advantage is just so great the best you can do really is to just try to survive and get back to equal footing as opposed to looking for your opportunity to win outright.
    There are uphill battles my friends. When your opponent has crazy momentum, then they have crazy momentum. It's all the same as if you were dishing it out, only you're on the receiving end. And it's in these general situations where, again, mitigation is your goal. "What can I do in the moment?" and "What could I have done differently beforehand?" are great things to ask after the fact, so that next time you'll be a little more equipped. Hope this helps. 👍

  • @enderwalker6528

    It is worth noting if you drive reversal Lily's EX condor : You can perform drive reversal whilst performing a parry, if you block the condor. Depending on what hit you reversal you will lose up to 3 bars of drive gauge. If you parry her hits and then drive reversal you'll actually lose less.

  • @Cassapphic
    @Cassapphic ปีที่แล้ว +7

    7:20 the way this question was worded also makes me think the person asking is getting combos and blockstrings confused. Moves usually deal less blockstun than hitstun, so if your opponent blocks a move they recover faster and may have time to slip a fast attack in the gap before your next hit, whereas on hit even if its not a true combo such as from overheads, the gap may be too small to attack through, or outright nonexistent for true combos

  • @redmagebr
    @redmagebr ปีที่แล้ว +19

    For #7 about linking/timing, the training mode also has two extra settings to help with this: one that gives you a color when a move can have their animations cancelled into other moves (or into Drive Impact); and another very nice option that shows the specific timing for when whatever you're doing can actually be done.
    The timing bar is a definite answer for "was it too late or too early" - it even marks the entire buffer window. The first one will mark you as red while you can cancel into stuff and mark you as blue when it's too late and you got committed into the rest of the animation.

    • @oklimbo
      @oklimbo ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The blue coloration is the timing for when an attack can only be cancelled into a super, but not a special/drive impact/drive rush.

    • @Local--Idiot
      @Local--Idiot ปีที่แล้ว

      Blue color is actually for when something is super cancelable. This is how I figured out I can cancel Deejay's machine gun uppercut into lvl 3 or lvl 2. However you cant cancel into lvl 1, probably cuz ut wouldn't hit anyways cuz mguc sends people up while lvl 1 hits close to to ground

I currently play modern with Ken and I stick to casual. Sure I played the 10 placement ranked matches but havent touched ranked much since. I personally just want to have fun and casual mode is the place for that (for me at least) win or lose. should also have explained because they're new- combos aren't effectively guaranteed like other games. the input leniency isn't there in street fighter like it is in games like MK or whatever. you have to be precise with when you press your buttons. it's definitely easier than games like 3rd strike in terms of leniency but yeah, this person seems to think "combo" is any sequence of loosely pressed buttons that gives you a true string, like a target combo.

    To the DR one: If you're a low/mid lvl player, use cancellable moves and look out for DR in neutral if the guy uses it a lot.

    Funny watching this after 2 months. Drive reversal used to be something I rarely saw, and never used, now I am seeing it a lot more. It can get you out of mixup situations. For example, if Ken is giving you grief with his dragon lash or jinrai kicks, you can simply drive reversal as soon as you block the first hit, or any hit, and get him off you. It costs meter but it may be better than blocking if you are at risk of losing the round, drive meter comes back if you die so better to use it trying to survive than "save" it if you are probably going to die anyway. I still never use it though, need to start honestly it can be clutch.

    I’ve been struggling controlling button mashing and meter use with modern. Modern makes characters easier for me to have fun with, but harder to actually learn b/c one input has multiple outputs.

      Try classic controls, gonna take away confusion with multiple outcomes with 1 button..and in turn eliminate the need to mash buttons.

    ok this is minor and also rly dumb but at like 19:30 or something like that when he restarts training i notice it just zips back to the middle of the screen instead of just jumping back to the middle or doing a slight fadeaway and i’ve noticed that other people’s training does the same thing so how do you enable this? rly small detail but kinda cool transition so i wanna know if that’s smth i just have to enable lol

    Along the same lines of the question about how to do cancels and combos and things, what are some tips of how to clean up your inputs? For example, I play Marisa and find myself often getting Gladius when I want Phalanx and vice versa and I also find myself getting lvl 1 instead of Gladius in some situations like after doing a 4HP.

      If you want a quarter circle forward after moving towards your opponent, what you can do is do a half circle forward. This prevents the initial movement forward from counting towards your motion, thus giving you a quarter circle rather than a dp. Hope this helps

    I would rather Drive Reversal NOT be "good".. If it cost less, or if it was safer to throw out, you'd see people doing it every time someone touches their block.
    It's in a perfect space for what it does right now.

      To be honest, I already do this. Most players don't know how to deal with drive reversal so I do it whenever I'm pressured (and I even get a windclad stock out of it). It can be read and blocked though.

    something new players wont know not explained in video is chained normals lose special move cancelable property. so chain needs to combo to a linked normal to allow cancelable property.
    2nd from chat - showing m or c allows players gameplan to change. examples - guile upside down kick hits people throw teching. so on c need to think about that. on m guile doesnt have upside kick. throw teching is safer.
    gief command grab light has further range on c but m nonly has medium options. so against m giefs certain ranges are safe that are not on c.
    lastly jp the spike hits full screen only on m so mid screen is safe for jumping into from full scrren. c jp can medium spike to punish jump.

      Chained lights don't lose special move cancelable property in this game; that is a SFIV thing I believe. If you're referring to target combos, that is technically true, but those aren't actually "normals," they are considered to be unique attacks in the move lists.

    I would love to be answered by anyone here. Has anyone experienced like 4 mixup opportunities of the opponent you guessed right and try to wake up ex dp, but then out of those 4 consecutive situations, the ex dp just gets beaten by meaties for some reason even tho im already mashing. But when the ex dp comes out, thats when they block. Its really discouraging and it happens a lot. Am I doing anything wrong? The meaties are usually light attacks. Im currently 20k points with Ken.

    • @BrainGeniusEditor
      @BrainGeniusEditor ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're sure they're EX (because regular DP is not invincible to meaties!), try inputting them earlier. Sounds like you're pressing the button late, which means you're pressing forward while you wake up.

    If you want to go from modern to classic controls but struggle with 6 buttons and not motion input. I would actually recomend playing Dhalsim. Hear me out.
    Sim doesn't really do combo's. the only real combo you do is jab-jab-yoga fire to knock them down and gain space. Instead you are using big buttons and specials to zone. Which means you will be able to focus on just hitting HP, or Hk->heavy fireball. Making you learn where those buttons are and the basics of cancelling into special moves.

  • @geneticjen9312

    I know modern players can still do classic inputs. Does that give them the full damage or is it always scaled back?
