Our Tribute to the First National Hero of the Philippines, whose name was first recorded as Cilapulapu, a Datu of Mactan in the Visayas region. Let’s learn more about the Brave Warrior called Lapu-Lapu who resisted colonization from the Imperial Spanish nation.

Lapulapu being from Borneo is fictional. Your source is the Aginid, which has been debunked by modern historians. National Artist of the Philippines for Literature, Dr. Resil Mojares, has compiled folklore from natives of Opon (now Mactan) that state Lapulapu is a native of Opon, not Borneo.

Hi I'm from the Philippines, Just want to ask why does the title says "The myth of Lapu-lapu" when the story is actually true?
As there is no exact account as to where Lapu-Lapu really came from. So they only considered it as a myth. Actually there are a lot of discussions regarding his origin but they do not know which is true or not. Hope this helps :)

FALSE : Lapu-Lapu was really born in Mactan not in Borneo. Listen to Dr.Jojo Bersales anthropologist fron the Univ. of San Carlos who did intensive research on the hero of Mactan.

Just to correct Lapu-Lapu is not a philipino hero, but he is a Native hero. Remember 1500's philippine state was not even exist because Gov. Of the Republic of the Philippines was stableshed on 1900's . Philippines was derived from the spanish king Philip II the colonizer. The 1st Philippine Constitution was adopted on 1935 including the citizenships of being a Filipinos....means a TAG of being sleeves of the king of spain.

there are 2 Datu in Opon Island. Lapu-Lapu is the datu of Mactan (East part of the island) and Datu Zula datu of Cordova (West Part of the island)

there is no official records to the origin of lapu-lapu prior the arrival of magellan, Lapu-Lapu coming from the borneo is just based on folks accounts that was mentioned in the video twice.
Lapu-Lapu is not a Filipino because he didn't embraced Spain where the name of this country came from. He's simply a pagan warrior a Bornean immigrant. This is a simple logic at work.
