- On Sept. 9 before the LA Sparks-Tulsa Shock game, actor/comedian Jack Black performed the National Anthem at STAPLES Center. Earlier in the evening, Black hosted a reception and fundraiser benefiting the mission of the 24th Street Theatre Company.
Anyone who has sang this anthem was just shown how to properly sing it. This man is pure talent.
As far as a lone singer, to me, he is second to Whitney. Very well done

Me too. I heard he had done an amazing job performing the national anthem, so I looked it up. I wasn't expecting that...I knew he was talented, but I didn't realize his voice was _this_ good.

I can't watch him do the "Banner" part without my eyebrows raising and eyes opening wide. So powerful.
Jack Black's career known by the mainstream media is focused on comedy which is still not taken seriously. So when people see how talented he is and how he looks focused, they might be shocked since it was never seen by most people. Black's career has ranged so much and I think he has the best of both worlds where he gets mainstream gigs when he wants or when he needs it financially but lives quietly.
Jack Black, as all know, is a musician but hes actually classically trained and his voice is in par with opera singers. He's a super talented dude and way funny and caring and can sing like a Ghowd!

@@Exterlina2 You can hear it in his voice. Dude has pipes, and he doesn't get nearly enough credit for his talent because he's so well known for his comedic performances. If you know anything about vocal training, just listening to this you can hear his training and raw talent. He's a fantastic musician and vocalist.
@@frocat5163 I am a great defensor of Jack Black's vocal ability. I have defended it in front of many musicians and singers. I adore him and I think he is sometimes underrated. However, as a vocal coach I have to say that not necessarily sounding lightly as an opera singer on a note or in a entire song means that you have a classic background. In all the interviews I have seen about him, he never comments that he has studied any music or singing, if not the contrary, that he started singing in high school and that he always sang that way. And I am not surprised, you can see more talent than training in hi,, which does not take away any merit, it would not be the first great singer who sings well without having studied, or who does technically very correct things following his instinct and intuition. I don´t see why it is necessary to invent some studies that are not proven, to give credit to a singer. He is greay anyway

Fuck, was not even trying and was note for note brilliant, has such a powerful voice, and such an underrated voice. If you put him in a studio to sing that anthem, very few would do better, one of the best vocalists going around, he really is, and he can be hilarious while doing it, ridiculously talented is that man.

Having lived in 3rd world countries even where slavery is still alive and well, to burn the flag and spit on the anthem makes me sick.
America might not be perfect, but the core values we have are worth fighting for. Even if some people are burning our virtues to the ground, and others have lost hope in this silly experiment of a country. If not fighting for the US of A, then for the people here.

One overlooked aspect that makes him a great singer is his diction. You can clearly hear every syllable and consonant. You pretty much have to in a comedy band so the jokes land, but he is also a fantastic singer.
