I nearly DIED, when I saw all the ORANGE accessories that came with the caravan! Orange is one of my favourite colours, and we do need an antidote to all the overuse of grey nowadays!
What a neat find… too bad it was never used, sat and started rotting. You’re so knowledgeable about older Caravans, if we ever get one and have questions I’m definitely coming to you!!
Awhhhhhhh, Cameron that takes me back , we bought our first caravan in Sept 1984 , it was a Trophy Perle, 1977. for £750 exact same exterior colours , only 10foot length , we loved it sooooo,.much , great holidays , wonderful memories loved seeing all that melarware, as it was known , made in England , that's worth a fortune , as it is vintage , I also owned a mallard, green Triumph Toledo 1972 until 1984 , but we used dad's Austin Maxi to tow, our little Perle, I am now on caravan number 11 , a fancy Coachman Pastiche !!! That's a real minter, Cameron , worth keeping definitely , where will you ever find another !! Such a gem to find , great video , very informative and educational , hope you enjoy many years ahead in that wonderful caravan and many trips away with like minded vintage caravan owners !!! That's a definite keeper , happy days , ps, always loved the wee opening top windows, great ventilation on warm nights !!!
What an interesting time capsule tutorial. Incredible that the intended towing vehicle was still in the wrapper as well. A story worth hearing there, I'm sure.
Thank you Cameron ! Absolutely fascinating story but what an enormous waste. In one of the Liverpool Museums there's an unused Ford Anglia first out of Halewood. I find that equally as fascinating too !
Great van, what a find. I’ve got tons of Melaware in the unusual brown colour. We had a new 1978 Lunar Clubman which had the Vanessa Oven and RM212 Fridge, complete with Perspex and glass double glazing! I’ve got an old trade suppliers guide from 1970s which has some great names and products listed.
What am amazing find ! Absolutely beautiful condition...I would love to know the reason behind it never ever being used though? I do hope it wasn't a sad event.😢 I hope the new owner really appreciates it, and has ghe same dedication and passion you held for it, so obviously in this video. ❤x
What a terrific time capsule of a caravan. Splendid piece of kit to be sure. Just wonderful. As always, Cameron, well thought out and informative narration.
To Alex Rankin Both the Triumph Toledo, and the caravan are nice - but I wouldn't like to make the poor Toledo having to tow anything - it's only a 1300. Better to have the larger engined model simply known as the Triumph 1500. OR the Dolomite, whose engine was even bigger, OR the sportier 2 litre Dolomite Sprint!
Cool ! Enjoying youre videos, have embarked on a major project restoring a '60s caravan here in NZ. It's been leaking water all over since day one, most of the framing is currently being replaced. It's a major project but a lot of fun. Thanks for your videos.
Great channel, thanks. Alot of great caravans and tips what to look out for im looking to buy a old 60/80s. Not sure what yet. l would love a Westmorland Star Caravan or a vickers a grand looking caravan Thanks lee
Incredibly sad, that it never got used. I've spent years waiting and hoping to travel, then just as I was financial enough to start planning and looking for a van.... then covid hit. But I managed to get a 15ft 1977 York a few months ago - much work to do!!
Hi we have brought a caravan similar to this our is a trophy but bigger. We are unsure of name and age. I was wondering where we could get the wheel rims. They look the same as what’s on this caravan you have shown. We have done a web search but had no luck finding one with the size of the centre hole
Really miss these lightweight no frills Caravans. Where’s all the excessive weight come from on modern vans? I wonder if lightweight vans will return when we’re all driving electric cars?
I know exactly what you mean. No one has ever re-evaluated caravan design from the ground up in recent years. The quest for lightness commenced in the 1980s as more and more equipment was demanded as standard. However, equipment has got heavier and heavier, and it would make sense to return to a full steel chassis to properly support the floor, instead of just beefing up the construction to cope with the extra weight.
I'd love to rent this for a week, and just stay there! People stay at retro hotels - so why not take bookings for a retro CARAVAN! And all stylish fittings and upholstery!
Hello, did you sell the van yet? If so can I ask for how much? My parents are selling a 1982 Eccles Topaz which I think is in surprising condition for it's age with many accessories so I was just wondering....
This kind of has me in conflicted emotions ~ there must be a pretty compelling reason as to why it was purchased and then never used ~ perhaps the original owners had purchased it with all the hopes and dreams of using it but then one of them passed and so it never got used.... A beautiful, but sort of sad find....
This looks a bit like the model that the Chuckle Brothers had in their earlier series, though I think that one is even smaller than this! Interesting to see it properly however! Here is one example episode: th-cam.com/video/cWaZxC8MMqw/w-d-xo.html
Part worn tires are 2 ply, commercial 6 ply about the same as caravan tires are unavailable part worn there belong to car tires .Part worn tires sourced in Germany are car tires the law that covers all used cars to have new tires when sold from a deal rs doesn't extended to commercial vehicles.6ply is the minimum you want on a caravan.
Definitely a 1979 model, I had all the original paperwork with it. The law was announced that it would change in 1978, but it didn’t take effect until 1981/2. And it outlawed fitting non-toughened glass, it was still possible to use toughened safety glass. But most manufacturers had moved onto plastic windows by then because it became the industry norm. The last popular caravan to be fitted with glass windows was the 1981 range of Ci Cadets.

This is how I felt too 😂 We need colour back in caravans again! 🍊
Wow! I remember 79 so well - like it’s only just happened!
To Ms Dormy
Yes, it's amazing that some things DO seem "just like yesterday"
However, one thing from 1979 stands out -the dreaded Mrs. Thatcher!

I agree, it belongs in a museum or at a vintage festival
@@quamby1able Yes, I too thought it SHOULD be in a museum!

Amazingly, I remember being driven, in an identical car to this one (inside and outside colours, and all), by a girlfriend, whose parents owned it!
Such professional video😀
Great video-subscribed. What a beautiful caravan that is. I like that you cosplayed as Captain Kirk for this one too!😉
To Alex Woods
Very funny!
What a terrific time capsule of a caravan. Splendid piece of kit to be sure. Just wonderful. As always, Cameron, well thought out and informative narration.
This caravan is beautiful and cool
A great find but a shame it was never used. Hope it goes to Good home and gets to be enjoyed, Juliet
@Hamza Paxton It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass :D
@Preston Immanuel You are welcome :D
That caravan deserves to be reunited with that Toledo 😍
It does, last I saw though it was back up for sale as the person I sold it to didn’t manage to restore it
@@NotAnotherWhiteBox I hope it does continue to survive

@@nygelmiller5293 totally agree about its pulling performance. My dad used to tow with a 1.3 Marina for a while, until we got a 1.6 Cortina
Nice museum peace
Thanks for this! Great formation! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

hi Cameron love to see you on your videos great video once again
Cheers for the info mate i've learned a fair bit 👍
Looks amazing
Thanks for showing us this little gem, and i really enjoyed the useful info when looking for a classic 😉
Brilliant! Have you ever come across an Abbey Warwick for restoration? We had one as a family in the 1980’s (was a 70’s) model I believe...
Thank you! Yes, the Abbey Warwick was the one with two doors wasn't it? I've seen a couple of them over the years, but they're very rare.

Cameron, what would one do with such a caravan that hasnt been used ? obviously repair the things you have pointed out , but afterwards ?

Maybe they decided to fly to Spain instead 😅
I never saw a tow bar fitted on their old car
Sort of sad to think the car and caravan sat there for all those years but never enjoyed :(
That fabric is so now agian.
It was new when Thatcher came in.
How much would you be looking to sell it for?
check out the videos of Mr Dan Sibly’s. A new caravan channel and a brilliant editor!!

At least they got their money back on the car so to speak minus inflation.
Can't be a 1979 because it's glass windows they were changed by law to perspex in 1978 .The latest it is a 1977 possibly a 1976 caravan
