Morning Report 16 Jul 24: Wall St ends higher as investors firm bets on Trump win, rate cuts

US sharemarkets climbed on Monday, building on Friday's rally as increasing expectations of a second Donald Trump presidency in the wake of a failed assassination attempt raised hopes of a looser regulatory environment. Tesla rallied 1.8% after CEO Elon Musk endorsed a Trump presidency. The growing probability that the US Federal Reserve will begin cutting its key interest rate as soon as September also helped risk appetite. Goldman Sachs' second-quarter profit more than doubled, beating analyst estimates on solid debt underwriting and fixed-income trading. The broker's shares rose 2.6%. Apple hit a fresh peak, up 1.7%, after the company's India sales jumped 33% to a record US$8 billion for the year ending in March.
