Jack Dempsey said that boxing training revolves around running and sparring. The morning of the Willard fight he "only ran 7 miles". Jess Willard and Jack Johnson went 26 rounds in blazing outdoor Havanna, Cuba heat. How many of today's fighter could do that?

Running in straight Line is worst for boxing, waist od time, energy and joints,if you want run do that in the ring in the circles, left and right, foward and beckward, simulating boxing in the ring!

@@ivanbuzov6279 No country in the world has spent more time and money on researching sports performance than Russia. Their boxing team was the first to incorporate weight training into boxing training and the first to use plyometrics in boxing training. Every member of their boxing team does distance running as well as wind sprints. Their research indicates it is necessary for top performance. The same is true of the best amateur boxing team in the world, the Cuban boxing team. They dominate amateur boxing since the 1980's and every one of their boxers does roadwork. If you were to tell the Cubann boxing coaches that roadwork is a waste of time they would laugh at you. Believe what you wish, but remember the best sports researchers in the world and the two best amateur boxing teams in the world all believe in running.

@@wsmith580the only challenging fight he had post Sanchez before Canelo 3 was Derevyanchenko where he was said to be ill before the fight and still fought through. I am pretty sure he would have been a lot better with vitamins and supplements as long as they are natural. If I was a pro boxer I would avoid training with a trainder dismissing taking vitamins and supplements

The strength & conditioning coaches' primary goal is to reduce injury. The amount of training and schooling that strength & conditioning coaches undergo can not be obtained through time spent in the gym alone.

LMAO I love old school methods but nutritional advances have proven a huge benefit to all sports and even jack dempsy had a whole chapter in his book to how important it was. Old school fighters like John IceMan Scully have been huge proponents of nutritional education and how modern knowledge on the subject would have aided him from the old school starve yourself techniques.

Not taking supplements like vitamins, minerals, electrolytes at a pro, world-class level today is crazy! I am not talking about chemical supplements with additives, but healthy supplements. Golovkin collaborated with SNAC after he parted ways with Samchez, was this a sign ? I would have loved to see what Golovkin could have reached with a strength and conditioning coach and healthy supplementation.

I disagree. I believe the vast majority of supplements are BS. If you eat healthy, eat the major food groups like they used to, you will get all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.
None of that stuff existed in the old days, and fighters went 15 tds easy. Now fighters get tired after 8.
