Weird that Automation doesn't let you use turbochargers and superchargers. They absolutely existed in 1946. They were just about as common in the modding scene as well
I would say that the early 50s makes sense as a starting era as that is when they start appearing on top level race cars. In 1946 the average turbocharged car is something rigged up out of a ww2 plane engine which isn't entirely in the spirit of automation
They had super chargers in the 1920s . If I recall, both Bugatti and Bentley used Roots blowers at the time. One of the fastest cars of the prewar period was the 1931 Duesenberg SSJ. It had a supercharged straight 8 that had 320 HP.
Superchargers just haven't been added yet afaik. Turbochargers weren't available in production cars until the 60's, so I'm guessing that's what they're going for
Pull a page out of ww2. Geoffrey de havillian. Built a plane out of wood because it was cheaper and it basically invisible to radar. It used two Merlin “not brown” v12s. Built a car like that.
The main thing holding back 1940s car tech is chemistry. Crappy tire compound, and low fuel octane rating prevent any kind of power being made or even getting to the road. They had turbos back then but they were mostly on war plane engines.
@@joeldowell5059 Wouldn't we all? I absolutely would. Like... if Grog were to release a plushy of Chappie tomorrow, I would instantly buy it, and I'm 21 😂
Top fastest car of the 1940s: Jaguar XK120 The manufacturer's success took the form of the aptly named XK120. This model is a roadster equipped with a then state-of-the-art straight six engine. It could top 120 mph and would carry the Jaguar name to fame in the coming decades. GrogTV: Are you sure about that?
The game seems to ignore much of the actual technology available in the 40’s. They were building bodies out of magnesium, engines had turbos and superchargers, top speed lake cars were hitting 330 - 400 mph.
This is the first video i've watched from you and I must say i love the vibes, your voice, your editing, your mate chiming in with smart comments. Brilliant!!
1:10 i know 8 trillion other comments have been made about this but turbochargers and superchargers most definitely did exist back then, not sure how common they were in cars but basically every plane made during WW2 was turbocharged or supercharged
I know this video is a year old, but I have to say watching this video made me cry laughing. The editing, your sense of humor, and how ridiculous the build is was just hilarious.
I've tried this exact challenge with a 2.6m wheelbase extended vw beetle looking body and an 8L v16 with 500 hp. It indeed is possible to make a functioning and good selling hypercar in the 1940s. Edit: forgot to mention that it did 240kmh/150mph.
Actually, Turbos HAD long been invented in 1946. A Swiss man patented the exhaust gas turbo supercharger in 1906 and the first use in a car was done in Germany in the 1930s in diesel trucks.
The land speed record set in 1939 by the Railton Special was 367.91mph. It was broken in 1947 by the Railton Mobil Special at 394.196mph with one pass recorded at 402mph.
Turbos have existed possibly thousand of years, not only do they move air fast, but they move other liquids fast as well, and we all know the sheer amount of pumps and ways to move liquid developed in Rome and Greece.
I will give you credit where credit is due you defiantly landed the super car mark in the performance aspect of things with the time frame you were stuck in but holy shit that was some straight up bob the builder shit! Thank you for the laughs you gave me.
Yes in real life I think it would be possible, the quad turbo W16 that is in the Bugatti veyron super sport makes about 1,200 hp, the supercharged Rolls Royce Merlin V12 that was in the p51 mustang and the spitfire made around 1,570 hp, put that engine into any car and the Bugatti would have some serious competition
I need the Coalition for Inline 8 for Automation Devs. Deusenberg and long cigar shaped sprint cars. Inline 8 will hearken old flathead tech and be a BROWN NATION for Turbo Inline 8.
Fastest car in 1946 doing only 126? Perhaps if you stick to road legal production cars only. But 126 had been topped at least 30 years before that on the salt flats.
What the..... It's 1946. In 1944, the Focke-Wulf Ta-152H-0 took flight with a Three stage centrifugal supercharger. in 1941, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt used a Turbocharger the size of a pallet, with an intercooler. in 1943, the Soviets experimented with the MiG I-225 which used a V12 twin-turbocharged engine. A 1946 Supercar would basically be something with a stolen fighter engine, since everyone and their mother was fast on throwing out them mighty fine piston-engine planes, since 1943 April, when Messerschmitt decided, that it's Jet fighter time, and with a diesel powered axial-flow Turbojet from Junkers, they have created the most overkill plane to hunt outdated american B-17s. Exhaust and Mechanically Driven turbo-superchargers have been beyond invented, and have not only been used for high altitude performance. the BRITISH......yes the FUCKING BRITISH, have made their planes in a way that War Emergency Power would immedietly set the Supercharger to the highest possible stage. This though was beyond haha, extra power, this made the RR Merlin and Griffon to shit itself, particularly by overheating.......the fact that by default the Radiators close when you engage WEP did not help this problem, but they could be opened anyways. Again, aerodynamically we are talking 1946. The debate between Air Cooled Radials or Water Cooled V12s have been a debate, mainly set in motion by Kurt Tank when he designed the Focke-Wulf Fw-190A with the BMW801 Radial engine, which went against the norm of Inline engines with radiators. See, P-40 Warhawk, Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane, Messerschmitt Bf-109, Lavochkin LaGG-3, Yakovlev Yak-1, Yak-9, Mikoyean-Gurevich MiG-3. Even the Japanese were looking for a V-12 plane which eventually became the Ki-61 Hiei. Some people have mentioned the Mercedes T-80, which used the Daimler Benz DB-603........ Again, it was a two stage centrifugal supercharged 44.5 liter Aircraft engine. Mainly used the the Fw-190D, and the Ta-152C, also the Fiat G.56 "Super Centauro"
