Samsung stated that a software update is coming soon. I have software with the March security patch and was told this was launch software. Samsung is reacting from seeing reviewers results and this is awesome. When a software update that improves the camera comes out I will revisit this comparison to see what has changed/improved.

It will be interesting to see what the camera fix patch does now that Samsung has stated they know there is are autofocus and other camera related issues. Not expecting a fix until May, IMHO.
There is no chance to repair poor phase detection auto focus performance via software update. iPhone 11 Pro is very consistent in quality and actually level of details of iP11Pro is insane considering Apple's sensor is phisicly 3 times smaller than that in S20 Ultra.
Please make a blind comparison test.

I'm a Samsung user and naturally I'd side with Samsung but on some shots, overexposure can just ruin a picture. Alot of pictures Samsung won and a lot iPhone won. They're both so good at what they do it's just crazy how far you have to look just to see the difference now. A great video though!
Hopefully with software updates, Samsung fixes this. I pre ordered the s20 so hopefully the camera is too on it too
That's why we have pro mode. Though it's not used on the video because the general public mostly use auto.
It's easy to forget that most of these issues can already be resolved with Samsung's pro mode. Samsung already gives us everything we need, we're just too spoilt to dive into the features. it would literally take 2 seconds to adjust most of these pet peeves but we'd rather complain about it not being set that way out of the box. it's really petty, lol smh.
@@jamessmith6909 oh no doubt we've been spoiled. Generally if I dislike a photo I've taken, it's because of my own error rather than a software problem. I don't hardly ever complain about a picture even the overexposed shots. But for some reason just snapping a photo in certain environments doesn't seem to be the FULL potential, but I guess that could be said for either phone since one does better at one shot and the other just not so much. I don't blame Samsung, but rather my own ignorance of certain settings to change along with the ignorance of the pro mode 😅 I've tinkered with it, but never got serious into it. Most of the time I'm happy with the quick shots I take.
@@jamessmith6909 not everybody is a professional photographer who understands things like exposure, shutter speed, aperture and iso though. Most just want to take a nice photo just to save a memory or as a memento and would just want to take a couple of shots, and move on with said experience with their family and friends, instead of spending time adjusting and fiddling with sliders to finetune a picture and staying at that place to continue shooting while their friends and family have left. That's why people are paying up to 1400 nowadays for a phone camera instead. They could havr spent a bit more to get DSLRs or mirrorless cameras which offers more lens options. I've gone on holidays where I felt bad about being too focused on the camera instead of my friends and family. I lost out on a lot of the interactions and the bonding aspects of actually going on holiday with my tinkering about to get the perfect shot. My family and friends are patient and they sometimes move a little slower to wait for me, but I always get the feeling I'm holding them back from seeing and doing more and getting the full experience of visiting places.

Turn off scene detection. I feel the images are over processed with it on. It's like using a filter.

+Danny Winget, I really want the S20 Ultra for that 8K Video Recording and 108 MP Camera. Both look good but the S20 Ultra has more resolution and quality.
Dont forget the zoom too, it's a beast.
This year Samsung has done a good job in terms of camera department. Super steady stabilization is crazy on this S20 ULTRA now.

Pictures are almost full screen and you even zoom in to show the detail difference while many not only don't do this but also put the pics in a tiny squares in the middle of the video which u can't tell any difference...

Because honestly every company almost uses the same sensors for the camera. It’s the computational processing that makes the huge difference optimizing the cameras after the picture is taken. The same Sony IMX sensor that is used in the pixel, is used in the iPhone and LG G8 and Galaxy S10. It was just a matter of software and after image processing
Apple focused more on software, Deep fusion is incredible, Their HDR was ground breaking last year, it's just that if samsung starts to focus more on software they will be like lightyears ahead of the iPhone and the pixel with sheer insane hardware they have

Apple Iphone 11 max pro: crappy at multi tasking, no expandable memory, pretty much useless pre-installed apps
Customers: It has an apple logo and the camera is good.
Ironically, detail wise, apple sucks. Yes, Apple might have a good color or temperature, but it's still a preference.
Samsung on the other hand: straight up beast.

at least give samsung some time for sofware updates. when iphone 11 pro came out, i bet you there were some problems apple later fixed via sofware updates. the s20 series literally just came out and you're already claiming that statement 🤦🏽♂️

I'd go with hardware over software. Clearly the Samsung's optics are unbelievable, and if you shoot in any other mode except auto you will be able to get any kind of result you want out the cameras. If you quickly snap and forget and share photos as is, the iPhone is probably more consistent. But if you edit your shots or tweak your settings, a phone with better hardware will always give you more options and ultimately produce the better image.

Another great video btw. Wow I’m very impress with the camera quality on the S20U. I have both an iPhone 11 Pro Max and a Note 10+ I find that every day photos are sufficient for the iPhone. But when I really want to make a statement I’ll use my Note 10+. I love how the iPhone handles the red. But the clarity of the S20U is absolutely amazing. The blue in the sky showed up more blue on the iPhone than the Samsung. Either way both are absolutely amazing cameras. At this point it’s personal preference and eco system.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra camera quality is incredible! I agree with you, Danny. Some of the shots on the iPhone 11 Max Pro's has more details. Hopefully, Samsung will iron that out in a software update.
I'm really disapointed with Samsung about that detail. In literally all day shots the iPhone had more details and idk why it is sharper tho

@@BenitoCoronado Let's hope so. Because if that doesn't change it will appear that the whole point of that sensor is to scale up to 2000% to see the difference. Otherwise no different than Note 10 which also lacks details compared to the iPhone

I Definitely prefer the iPhone’s image any day. It’s not easy to capture cloud details, keeping dynamic range perfect and iPhone did that
@@wanted247ha8 not necessarily. The Samsung did clip some of the clouds but kept better dynamic range and color on the actual subject. For me, I prefer the actual subject to look better instead of the background looking better.
I go with the ultra cause it has alot of detail in zooming .for day time photos i think a draw.

Same thing was said before the phone was launched... now it’s after a software update... yeah we’ll see.
What’s funny is almost all phone makers use specific Sony sensors for the cameras. It’s just up to manufacturer computational photography to make the complete difference. Hardware really has nothing to do with it, it’s enhancements and optimization. That’s why Google and Apple have always been the one to beat for night time cameras.

Firstly in this instance Samsung are using one of their own custom sensors.
And if sensors have no importance then Apple should stick to the same sensor they used in the original iphone and just software themselves to success.
You NEEED good hardware as well as software to get the best results.
And in this comparison we could already see how far ahead the ultra is in low light. You have to be extremely ignorant to not agree here.
And yes phone manufacturers do this thing called software updates whereby updates are often given to different aspects of the camera.
And Samsung did a good number of successful camera updates with the S10 last year and since this year they are using a completely new set of sensors effectively their first iteration you can bet that they will or at least should update several times over the course or the year.
They are already the best cameras after a few updates they'll be untouchable. Just watch the space.
The iPhone has better HDR and absolutely slaps in video. An update to make all that better would have to be massive and take a lot of time. They’ll probably fix all this on the note to be honest. Anybody who buys a galaxy S is a straight up fanboy because I prefer iOS and even I would wait until the note came out if I rocked a Samsung 🤷🏾♂️. They’re the same sizes now too so no reason to say “I don’t want a not because it’s too big”.

Danny, I absolutely loved your video. Can you do a comparison between the S20+ and the ultra? Just to see if that price point difference between the phones is really worth it.
Forget who wins they are both back and forth. The real winner here is you testing these cameras in the best place ever with so much variation of shots and details. Much more refreshing than other youtubers just going to the park across the road.
The 108mp camera makes a whole lotta difference. But both are terrific no matter what, two of the best?

108 million pixels is stupid as the lens on the S20 Ultra can not resolve 108 million pixels and can only resolve 12 million pixels.

s20 ultra 108 mpx shots definitely seemed more natural and less artificially sharpened then the iphone and i would say other smartphones in general. Its nice since it reminds me of using my DSLR wherein it doesnt look as sharp but when i crop in , theres usually a whole lot more detail

Hows the shutter speed? I went from iphone to android when the s10 plus came out and was severely disappointed by the pic quality and shutter speed, or its ability to take clear pic of objects in motion.
Both phones are amazing...but I'll have to go with the iPhone the color tone was excellent and in some shots the iPhone just captured so much of detail without. Over contrasting it 😀
