Steamship Shieldhall - Shakedown Cruise April 2023

Shieldhall sailing down Southampton Water on Saturday 1st April 2023 for her shakedown cruise.
Shieldhall has been alongside her berth since the end of the 2022 sailing season which finished in September. Since this time, the ship has been alongside, and our volunteers have been busy maintaining our ship throughout the winter period. The purpose of the shakedown cruise is to ensure that all aspects of the ship are working correctly. The shakedown was a huge success, and our volunteers are now getting the ship ready for the voyage down to Falmouth for our annual Dry-Docking inspections over the next few weeks.

Shieldhall is a Heritage steam ship and a member of the National Historic Fleet. Recognised to be the largest working steam ship of her type in Britain and probably Europe, she serves as a tribute to Britain's maritime heritage and a living reminder of the golden age of steam.
