  • Sarge having a rant to get it out of his system regarding the reason we bought a Chinese Off road Hybrid Caravan. We will not be naming the manufacturer going forward however we will be doing a lot of travelling and caravan education as we lear ourselves.

    Like most of the other comments, I too bought a new Chinese van. As soon as it got off the boat the manufacturer put on lovell suspension, replaced the bearings, Aussie built awning and all gas/electrical appliances have to be Australian standards. I can’t fault the van and saved thousands. I’m not sure if any van is 100% all Australian made or materials used, (I could be wrong)?
    Anyway I travel within my budget and don’t give a hoot what others think, nor should anyone.
    Love your video.

    You are spot on, that's why we went for an MDC Highside camper trailer. Way cheaper that the Aussie made campers and I can tell you, it's very well made and have had very little problems with it.
    Will be upgrading to small hybrid caravan next year and boy they are great value. Will be interested to see what you get.

    Well said mate… I have just ordered a Chinese made hybrid knowing fully what some of the issues may be. Important is the local seller and how they support, stand behind the product, and after sales service. I’ve purchased a PX2 from Starvision in Melbourne, have upgraded the electrics, and will upgrade the suspension. Went down to visit the showroom and the build quality is not too bad… as an engineer having worked in manufacturing I understand that.

      They are the two most important things to look at upgrading as well as the wheel bearings as most are Chinese need the Japanese ones. Thanks for watching 👍

    totally agree, we bought a Chinese hybrid in 2019. brand spanker for $32K yes its had issues and a few things replaced. mostly under warranty. Yes, we've had to spend some $ recently on upgrading the suspension (the one it came with turns out to be way under the weight rating for the van) but we're still alive way under $40k and having a ball

    My funniest "gotta buy Australian" was the bloke who ended up being our boss for a few years. Came on the cattle property as Outback Helpers to cover while they were having a break.
    The boss came back earlier than everyone else. So we invited him to have a feed with us.
    Made tuna curry & rice from our camper supplies.
    He asked where did the fish come from. We didn't know...we were on a home brand tinned food budget. He did a bin dive & grabbed the can.....THAILAND.
    He had guns & I wondered if that would be the end of us.😁
    My hubbie had us both rolling around laughing when he said they were caught in Thailand but they were actually Australian Tuna on holidays....you got to be careful going to Thailand.
    Blessings

    Mate I’m 100% behind you on this crap about buy Australian,first of all a bloody lot of the stuff they fit In Australian made vans is from out of the country some Australian made vans have more Chinese fittings than most others.
    As for the idiots that go on about buy Australian ask them to go through everything on their house ,most electrical stuff comes from China,TV’s most of come from China just have an Australian approval sticker on them.
    Knives and forks come from overseas.
    Australia doesn’t have a manufacturing business left here it’s all moved over seas nothing that counts is made here these day’s.
    So just tell them to go buy Australian if they can find anything that is actually made here now.

    Gday mate, I'm all about buying Australian made products as I believe in supporting Aussie companies, but also I have no problem with people buying products that are made overseas either.
    Now I say if it gets you out seeing our great country then it's a good bit of kit, yeah some of it is sub standard rubbish but that's all some people can afford due to their circumstances so they shouldn't be judged on that because like I said
    *if it gets you out seeing our great country then it's a good bit of kit*
    Forget the haters, you do you and never apologise for it 👍👍

    Mate, I enjoyed the rant so much. the only people you have to justify your decision to, is the nurse and yourself.
    If all these blow hards only realized that 70% of the caravans/campers are built overseas and then imported and only to have a compliance plate stating the the vehicle was built in Australia is so incorrect, they are assembled here but not built here. purple line is an example.
    Go buy you camper and enjoy it whilist all the others are getting hardons from spending $90,000 plus and bragging about them, atleast your'll be enjoying yours.

    we just bought a Chinese based hybrid also, haven’t received it yet as it’s still being built but very excited to get it in September, we chose the signature iridium 13s with 400ah of enerdrive lithium, Lovells remote res 8 stage adjustable shocks and all the air con, dust reduction system and bells and whistles whistles, you know these Chinese built hybrids are made in China but most of the factories are run by Pom’s, Americans and Aussies so quality control is better than you think, I’m totally happy with our decision to get the Chinese hybrid, it’s funny because half the people who snob us poor people for buying an obvious Chinese built van are in a van that they think is Australian made but not 😂😂, fk them mate and I like your nickname my nickname is Frog also 😁, you’re a champ mate don’t let the uninformed wreck your day.

    Enjoyed the rant and the zen Ommmmm at the end. :)
    It sounds similar to all the bashing of the cheap Chinese-made Baofang ham radios that people over on this side of the pond are buying. Are they the best? Nope. Are they affordable? Yep. Have there been tons of people who have started with a Baofang to see if they enjoyed the ham radio hobby, and then later upgraded? Definitely, and if they decided the hobby wasn't for them, then they hadn't spent a ridiculous amount of money on something they weren't going to use. And, there are plenty of people that just stayed with the Baeofang radios and are still enjoying the hobby.

    • @SargeNurseOffRoading
      @SargeNurseOffRoading  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Steve, This is exactly what I was referring to, we know the risks but it is the affordable option atm. Was looking into those radios, are they any good? as I know most US overloading is on the HAM Radio system and was curious as to what that comms would be like.

    • @frozentwiddlelump
      @frozentwiddlelump 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SargeNurseOffRoading I can only go by what popular opinion says about them, and it seems to be a 50/50 split as to whether they're any good. 😁 I'm a Yaesu fan, and am super happy with their radios, both the mobile and handheld ones I have. Over here in the great frozen North, we have various licenses that are required before you can transmit on certain frequencies, and the licenses in the US are similar but also different. To operate on VHF/UHF here, you need a license, while (I think?) in Australia, UHF/CB frequencies are considered to be the same and don't need a license, but VHF does? Terrain will make a massive difference on the VHF/UHF side of things, regardless of how good a radio you have.

They say support Australian manufacturing but yeah like you said its twice as dearer, less features and probably most of the parts they use is from China anyway. • @bobkats
    @bobkats ปีที่แล้ว

    Sarge I feel your frustration, but perspective mate, the reason, the only reason manufacture is more expensive here, is Governmant, not unions, but the taxing of product and business at many levels, fuel is a perfect wxample, the Federal Government taxes fuel on, delivery to Australia, then at manufacture, then on packaging, then at transpoert, then at the pump, the servo makes 3 cents a litre, the fual company 15c a litre and the Government the rest, go figure. Unions do not add to the cost, nor does OH&S, these save us money collectively, from workplace accidents, the Government os solely responsible for this, and they can change it, before covid, and $80,000 camper was under 50k and the imports were less than half of what they are now!!!! Where is the ACCC in all of this? They will not chase the Government......... Great videos btw.

    The whole ‘anti Chinese imports’ argument is totally absurd. The same people that rant about ‘Aussie jobs,’ happily drive down to K-Mart, or wherever, in their foreign made vehicle, to buy products that are predominantly made in China, or at least contain components from China. So the people that make this argument are invariably hypocrites, or maybe just stupid. Some people argue ‘don’t buy from China’ for moral / political issues, and that’s fine, each to their own, but the same issue arises. Similar to you, we are buying a SWAG SCT16, it’s about $63K, the equivalent Aussie van would cost about $100K, which is totally unaffordable for your average person. I remember about 12 years ago looking at an MDC camper trailer up in Cairns, this was when campers first started to be imported from China. The quality was absolute dog shit. Now look at the MDC products, they are really good quality. This is where Chinas reputation for poor quality imported vans arose, but that was a long time ago. China’s just like anywhere else, given the time to perfect their craft, they can produce amazing products, just look at Apple, but you also get what you pay for. There are budget vans which come over from China which are associated with lesser quality, and there are more expensive vans which come over which are high quality. So the fact a van comes from China still doesn’t change the ‘maths,’ that you can’t expect to pay peanuts, and have a flawless product. Some people however, still seem to expect something for virtually nothing, and then blame the Chinese manufacturing process when it isn’t what they expected. I might add, there are a number of Aussie products which are poor quality, just look at JAYCO, which has the nickname ‘Junko,.’ But again, they are cheap, mass produced vans, so you get what you pay for.

    Great Rant Sarge, you are far more polite than I am. When these self involved ****'s are paying for the Van then they can pick it out. When it's my hard earned $$ then I'll pick whatever fucking Van I like ;) These are the same arsholes who go on and on about 'You gotta buy an Engel!'. Yeah, no I don't. My 80l Oztrail has been kicking on great and not skipped a beat. I am not going to pay double or triple the price. Spending $40k on your Panda 13 gets you out there, on the road, enjoying the Bush, the Beach and the great wide 'Fuck All'. Today. Not tomorrow or 'sometime in a few years' when you can afford to drop $80k on a Jayco. Thats years of experiences and learning as well as basic relaxation.
