Nice! It's snowing here, which in my area of North Carolina is a big event. So I probably won't be going outside. This gives me something exciting to watch. Pretty sure I've watched all the other Darrell Thorp videos available on the internet already. He's great.
Also; I hope everyone at PLAP and Darrell is OK. An update video, once the dust settles wouldnt be a bad idea...Im sure Im not the only one deeply concerned for you guys
Great stuff Darrell - thank you for doing this video 🙏🏻 Thanks for putting this up on TH-cam Warren. I hope you and your family are staying safe and well 👍🏻
Use ears to identify problem and eyes to address it. Nothin wrong with that. We all use analyzers to check balance in a mix so wherever it's helpful go for it.
Another really cool way to use that Puigchild ...turn the threshold all the way down and start pushing the input knob until you get some nice coloration. If the GR has not kicked in by that time add a little just for control. Great video. Way to open the mix up to breathe and have some fullness.
It’s so awesome that we can now send our music tracks all over the world for geniuses like this to mix for us. Young people who are new to the game have no idea what it used to be like.
Sending California nothing but positive vibes. Darrell I have the exact same Kozy and Dan signed print that you have on the wall behind you. Purchased in Clerkenwell London circa 2004. Thanks for the tutorial, very informative!
Really depends ! For the record, I am not a huge fan of drum triggers. Try to work very hard while tracking to achieve the best drum sound possible when tracking. However. I do add a drum sample when I’m missing something in the recorded drum part. More crack More low end More buzz on the snare. Or the same with the bass drum. More extended low end More attack. And so on so on. Allot of modern productions use samples to get a huge difined sound. If it works for you go for it.
@@darrellthorp5873 Thank you so much for the reply. so, I definitely shouldn't use drum samples just to use them only if I need them. and try to make sure I get the sound right in tracking?
I have had a few instances where I cleared the align assignments and ran the record data again and worked much better the second time. That being said I should ask Sound Radix team. I’m sure that I did something wrong.
34:16 Is It Cause Its Louder That With Align Off, That I Think It Sounds Way Better, With More Dynamics, Excitement And Color ? I Would Leave The Plugin Off.. Again Only If Its Not A Loudness Thing ?
Completely understand what you mean. Auto align is a taste thing. There are times when mixing drums with allot of mics the plugin works very well. And also I have aligned drums and clients have heard the difference from the ruff. And have requested to go back to the non aligned drum sound. Because of taste. Not that one was worse.

@@darrellthorp5873 aha!
I so much hate how that snare was tracked. It's like the snare mic was covered with cardboard.
That's why we mix!
The snare definitely needs mixing! Which is what Darrell is demonstrating here.

Great question!
@@pensivecircle6326 I would follow Darrell's method, I completely subscribe to it as well! Exactly how I work
Sounds great mate👍do you ever use a tc 1140 in your rig?
No. Looking now.
Auto align sometimes works really bad on drums. It's too expensive tool to not be so reliable. IMHO manual aligning much trustable
Interesting. I've debated getting it or the Mautoalign. In the past I've done it just by looking at it and it's been fine.
Manual aligning isn't even hard to begin with. Sometimes "time-saving" tools create more problems than they solve.
I have had a few instances where I cleared the align assignments and ran the record data again and worked much better the second time.
