- We have finally done it. Almost decade after the first development of this theory, speedrunners have finally cracked the code
For anyone wondering, this is Poki Skip. A way to bypass having to get the O2 mask from pokitaru which consequently skips planet Gaspar as well. Sadly (and maybe luckily), this doesn't save any time as the "intended" planet order can be done really fast.

Fun fact, the proxy that made all of this possible was found exactly 3 years after ThaRixer posted his vid. Coincidence? Probably.

Wow. Being one of the people who worked on making this a reality for several years this almost makes me tear up a little. The way you reach the second location is some of the best out of the box thinking I've ever seen when it comes to speedrunning. It's such a beautiful thing to see this happen after over 10 years of trial and error and trying out the craziest strategies imaginable. Congratulation sir, you have truly defeated a giant here.
RaC speed runners doing everything they can to skip the vacation planet, cause they never take a fucking break 😭💀
The vacation planet also just happens to have the longest "autoscroller" section in the game.
So I see that as a win

One thing I find incredible about glitch hunters and speedrunners is the way they always seem to make the impossible possible!
As a longtime fan of the series, the fact that this skip takes six minutes to get the infobot, the exact amount of time the Plumber suggested Clank go back in order to save Ratchet in A Crack in Time, almost makes me want to cry.

Kinda interesting that in order to do poki skip, you need to get Pokitaru first
You don't need to, but it's faster because it teleports you towards where you want to go

You do need the Thruster Pack after defeating Drek, yes. However, the game hands it to you during the final phase. So it's not really true packless, but rather a "don't purchase any packs" kind of situation
It means we can do a "fewest planets" run
Just a few days ago I saw a nice documentary about the unsolved poki skip and that only one bot location was still not found how to skip and how close we are. Amazing job

This is incredible! Im curious to know what the save would do on veldin orbit during the space walk sections. Since the o2 mask isnt in Ratchet's inventory would it still equip?
It just equips. It's like the Thruster Pack. If you don't have it and enter the drek fight, the game just gives you it. Only real difference is not being able yo breathe underwater
@@Pentalieven if you somehow don't have it, I heard that there aren't any death triggers for not having it in, so you'd just do the section without the helmet
Yeah, the game never actually checks whether you have the mask or not except on orxon and if you're underwater

I've also dreamed of this after seeing ThaRixer's video on it and it feels so unreal it finally happened! A shame that this doesn't save any time... unless someone figures out how to do it faster, but that's bit of a stretch since this already seems pretty much as fast as it can be... maybe in some niche category this could find use...

This may only be segmented, and I only heard about this from Xem just a few days ago, but I really hope that in the future, this legendary skip that was once unsloved, becomes rta viable.
If anything, I'd like to see Poki Skip as another speedrun category for RaC1 NG+, like "RaC1 NG+ w/ Poki Skip" for example.
I may not be a speedrunner, but I'd think doing that would serve its honor, since its probably slower than the current route
I don't know if Poki Skip could benefit 100%, it may not, but I'm just guessing.
There is one category so far where poki skip would be faster, which is ng+ packless. And people have already discussed doing IL (individual level) runs of it, which ig could be a good way to implement it into the leaderboards
This is absolutely incredible! As a layman I have to ask, how feasible is this for RTA? I'm no speedrunner but most of this seems pretty feasible in my eyes
I can definitely see it being done RTA. The plattform boost is kinda random but there's an alternate way to get there. The only real problem would probably be the second location, which requires a frame perfect pause after a proxy, which sucks

@@ZPixel17 sadly not. The current speedrun route for the planets that are skipped with this sits at about 6:15 while this run would be closer to 6:45 if i used the same timing as rta runs. And with the lack of movement that clank has and without a consistent plattform boost, i don't see this ever being faster in an RTA setting. And honestly, im kinda glad it slower. This would be a real pain to do in runs
@@Pentali Darn! Still an amazing achievement either way. What I would like to see is a RAC low%, visiting as few planets and getting as few items as possible. This would be useful in such a run at least :D

This is insane!!! How many planets/ info bots are required to finish the game?
Minimum setup (any%): 19 planets (i think)
Maximum setup (ng+ qe): 1 planet
Ng+ with IMG: 7 planets
Ng+ no IMG (the category of this run): 16 planets

@Pentali this planet was 7 min long and the ice planet has a strat to fly over the ravine and instantly start the turret segment, before again flying back over the ravine

I'm mostly surprised that people figured out super jump before all these spots where you can apparently just.. punch away from a wall to clip through? Speedrunning is weird sometimes..
(But now I'm just curious if the game cares if Ratchet goes to outer space areas without ever getting the O2 mask)
It doesn't. Also there have been some recent developments which have made this skip 2 minutes faster than what is shown in this vid

Honestly, even if it was optimized (for example a proxy from position 1 to up to the plattform where position 3 is), i don't think people would actually go for it due to the sheer difficulty.
Though it is already theoretically faster for ng+ packless, so it's not completely useless

Its a segmented run, so its a bunch of clips spliced together. I always try to make them as seamless as possible, and it seems like i have succeeded seeing as you only noticed 2 out of like 20 or 30

The problem is that it's only possible in ng+ dues to the goodies menu being required. But sure, ng+ low% could also be a fun challenge.

The segments that are skipped add up to about 5:50
@@Pentali with that timing, seeing your 2.0 version's runtime... if that route was RTA viable, the meme may not be dead yet. Pokiskip could be a genuine improvement to the any route. The challenge is to find an run viable version that loses less than 1m30
The thing is, some people (mainly me and a runner called ataappi) have done it in runs. Though I don't think anyone's gotten it fast enough to actually save time yet. Check out my ng+ packless pb, and you'll find it. It saves much more in ng+ packless since there's no timeless due to all the planets being slower
