I started with John Deere in 1996 grew up with all these great old tractors, I am still with Deere to this day , The biggest problem with the old A/C systems is they have been worked on so many times throughout the life of the tractor. What this means is way too much refrigerant oil in the system . You will fix this problem if the tech flushes the system ,, really flushing the condenser . Refrigerant oil takes up volume in the system, and over long years of the system being into for repair, flushing of the system and getting the oil amount correct in the system will fix the problem.
4440s are the most dependable and longest lasting tractor in there class. There comes a time for a second life rebuild. While it's expensive to do atleast these no Def and no computer. And most importantly no payments.
Yes! I had a hydraulic line crack by the pump. Anyhow it pumped out all the fluid without my noticing. Made the turn at end of hay strip an over the hill I went. No brakes no steering. Went through my fence ended up in a creek. I was knocked out. Tractor survived. Broken window cracked fuel tank. New seat parts. Back in action!
@griggsfarmsllc alot of the lil 4440s were cranked up when they were new, some guys tried to use them like a 46 or 48, the lil 4440 was the perfect 6 row tractor, ive got a neighbor that has one he bought brand new when he got out of high school around 78 or 79, there's no telling how many hours on it now and the transmission or engine has never been opened up, I would love to know how many thousands of acres of rows its drawn over the years, they had two 48s that did the disking and the lil 44 drew every row, she's retired these days strictly on spin ditcher duty, funny story when he bought it one of the old timers he was farming land for wanted to check it out, he looked it over and asked the price my buddy told him right at 30,000, the old guy said if you live to be 150 you will never pay that off, my buddy said that old fool has no idea what he's talking about, he says now 45 years later it's still tied up and used as collateral he said the old guy was right lolM8052
I have two of them that were bought new one was my grandfather‘s, last new tractor he ever bout and the other was my dad frist new tractor he ever bout . They both have over 20,000 hours each I would take a new one today if they would give me that kind of service and reliability
You should try just unrolling the wrap from the roller instead of cutting it. It won’t scar the rubber and the sticky part of the wrap will come right off. It’s easier and safer than using a knife
Good Thursday afternoon Griggs family, glad the cotton is yielding pretty good and sorry that you’re still having trouble with the 4440. Be safe out there today and have a good weekend 🇺🇸🙏🏻. Hey Matt when you bought your new to you cotton picker. If they would have had a cotton stripper that was in good shape and around the same price as your picker would you have gotten the stripper instead of the picker or does it really make that much difference. Take care and have a safe and blessed weekend.
No I wouldn’t get a stripper. Strippers are not designed for our tall rank high yielding cotton. Plus there is a significant discount in price you get for stripper picked cotton as the quality isn’t as high
I dont know what a suppresion system costs but stop fyre extinguishers are the best inhave seen. They are small easy to use and you would be amazed at the size fire one little squirt will put out. A lot of fire departments use them. It also uses a clean agent so it is safe for electronics. If you ever have to use them they are refillable at a decent cost too.
The spindles run through a moisture column every revolution and the cleaning solution in the water tank is used to keep the spindles clean. Otherwise the spindles get coated with sap and become sticky and won’t release the cotton. Also cotton is attracted to moisture so a damp spindle will pick more of the cotton than a dry one, leaving less cotton remaining in the field.
If they ain't been replaced already, most likely your AC lines running up the cornerpost on the 4440 are probably about rotted out and leaking. Hardest ones to replace and no one likes messing with them. Hard to believe if it has had a Sanden compressor conversion that it would have ate a compressor in less than a years time without it being defective. I wouldn't put a boxcar Magnum anywhere near chopping cotton stalks, seen too many of them burned from cotton finding it's way behind panels. Those old Deere's can't hardly be beat for mowing cotton stalks just from the ease of keeping them cleaned off and not missing anything smoldering on accident.
With the problem with fire on combines, why couldn’t you take a 50 gal sprayer and mount it on the combine somewhere. It would cost no more than 500$. Good insurance to stop losing the whole tractor. Look at Tractor Supply or any place that sells lite farm equipment. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!
we had 2 4440's one got tired after 19000 hrs the other one went 21246 hrs and got tired, just tires, batteries, oil, fuel very reliable but we took care of them, kept inside in winter, keep those rear axles bearings greased and front end or you will be cussin more
kayla will put you in touch with a nice massey ferguson pretty red i think mf has finally figured out how to build tractors again i would think with fires insurance co would help with cost of fire suppresion equipt burn up a new green weanie 1 mill gone

Congratulations on fantastic yielding cotton. Have a great weekend.

Great cotton content it gets better every year thank you
Glad you’re getting into some better yields!
The biggest problem with 4440s is the newest one is 42 years old. Age gets all of us over time.

we have had 3 of them..still have one..
I’m 45 and the tractor breaks down more than I do and isn’t run near as hard. 😂
Also people try to pull more than the 4440's are designed for

Thanks for the video. I hope you saved all that pink wrap you cut off for Christmas presents lol.
More than likely rusted out metal tubes that go up the cab post is where the A/C is leaking. At least the 30 Series tractors had that problem.
I was on my way with a couple ribeye steaks and a 30 pack of Busch light. It probably needs new lines.
I have two of them that were bought new one was my grandfather‘s, last new tractor he ever bout and the other was my dad frist new tractor he ever bout .

Why do you have a water tank on the picker? Do you spray the lint as it goes through the machine? If so why?

Otherwise the spindles get coated with sap and become sticky and won’t release the cotton. @ ok that makes sense. Thanks, no cotton grown up this way, curious minds. 👍
That sound guard cab is to small. We have 3 of them. I prefer our Ford TW10. At least you have room in the cab.
Looks like the picker is doing good job harvesting.
Do y’all have any irrigated cotton? Looks like you can do 3+ bales in a good year? Nice farm!
No we don’t have any irrigation

That’s a good point I hadn’t considered about lint finding its way behind panels. Thanks
Not going to change your mind. I completely agree 😂
😂
Take care of them these tractors will last forever, thr R 's are still running

I know they make some cool fire suppression systems for stripper pickers that will literally foam the machine down with fire retardant in seconds
At that age maybe an auger tractor.

I think mine has around 11,500 hrs. So I guess you’re telling me mine is just getting broke in good? 😂
Put 900 hours on between 2 4640s and one 4550 this year with minimal downtime. 😂 You just have bad luck.
I didn’t say 4640’s and 4850’s sucked, just the 4440…😂
@@griggsfarmsllc 🤣 46s were a lot heavier built tractor. A lot of people don't realize that.
Matt I’ll bring you a pallet of bush latte and bring you a whole hog that you can make plenty of sandwiches out of for that tractor😂
😂
kayla will put you in touch with a nice massey ferguson pretty red i think mf has finally figured out how to build tractors again i would think with fires insurance co would help with cost of fire suppresion equipt burn up a new green weanie 1 mill gone
I like the way the 9s’s look
I bet Kelly’s tractor smells like a chicken 💩 an air freshener out, 😂😂! Yeah that stuff get rough.
Chicken litter smells like money.
The older tractors are the best.
It’s getting time to get a bigger main tractor anyway. Somebody will pay too much for the 44. Just sayin’.
Helo from israel😊
70 series ford new holland
Some of the best tractors ever made…but not easy to find
