That tractor was owned by a distant cousin of my dad Aaron! He passed away from cancer. He was a very well known man around Barron. Best of luck to you Aaron!!!
What a story about that tractor! I'm sorry for your loss. It's nice to see that it was cared for so well & Aaron will cherish it & take good care of it.💙
I was really taken back in time when I watched this video of your purchase of this 7120 Magnum. I worked in the Receiving Inspection Department at the Racine Case tractor plant for 13 of my 30 years. Our group of inspectors, engineers and buyers worked over 600 hours overtime approving the first 7110 to come off our assembly line . When it went into full production our department worked with over 1000 vendors to check incoming parts for quality specifications. I enjoyed you and your Dad going around your 7120 and seeing parts I used to inspect. I enjoyed the shot of the instrument cluster I test inspected. I also worked with the rim and tire vendor Goodyear, Goodrich, Firestone and Armstrong front and rears.i can begin to tell you all the parts I inspected, fiberglass ,fuel tanks and many, many mechanical , hardware parts. Thanks again for the memories..
I love my boxcars, couple things I learned 1. Do not put the tractor in park halfway up a steep hill as it can get stuck in park & in order to get it out you have to pull it with another tractor. 2. Check the hydraulic hoses under cab in offtime, they are a pain to swap out 3. I wouldn’t be surprised if that engine is original, treat them well they will last a long time 4. If it still has the small silver fuel filter in front of the regular filter, buy an extra one & keep in the tool box. Napa carries pretty much all of the filters for boxcars 5. Mine are 7200 series so they have the “shutdown ignore” switch on the right side of the dash. I can’t remember if the 7100 series has those or not. If it does, make sure that switch is not wired closed 6. Make a better cup holder out of PVC bc I guarantee you will spill drink if you put a drink in that dumb shallow cup holder 7. Blow out the fuse box with air to keep it clean Great tractors, I’d buy more of them if I wasn’t so old
Do you know how to get the clutch disengage light off on a 5220 maxxum? Mytractor keeps doing that and everyone says it’s something with the transmission but I remember my uncle saying to just push a button but I don’t know which one and that was 20 years ago. I’ve had to use that tractor for the auger which I hate doing cause it runs so well and is such a nice tractor but with that stupid clutch disengage it’s a pain to even pull into the shed!
@@SamBuchanan-s8g you have to preform a sequence with the clutch pedal but I haven't owned a 5200 series maxum in 15 + years so I forget the sequence. Might find an online service manual.
Congratulations Aaron ! You wont be disappointed - Those are the most bullet proof tractors and transmission!! I know first hand when I worked at the CaseIH dealer and I also drove them myself.. we sold a bunch of them and I knew some farmers that put 10,000 hrs on them without any engine or transmission repairs
That tractor was owned by a neighbor of mine. Never meet him personally but looking at all of his equipment, that will be a good tractor for you. God bless.
Good buy! As far as the difference between the 7120 and larger magnums, the biggest difference is heavily drives in the rear, bigger axials, large 1000 pto, and i believe the had more clutches in the trans along with better cooling to handle the extra hp
7120 is rated at 166 hp. Now that you have this tractor, can leave the picker mounted on the year diesel, IH tractor. Congratulations on a new tractor to you. It does use 50 gallons of hydraulic fluid, so if you change it, you might as well buy a 55 gallon drum.
7810 and 7120 both excellent tractors, like others have said, pull the 2 accumulater off under cab by the batteries, you’re local dealer can make sure there full of nitrogen, if you change hydraulic fluid make sure you stay with good quality oil, I like hytran or hygard, cheep oil will de laminate the clutches, expensive fix to save a little on oil, just my 2 cents worth, thanks for sharing with us 👍
A friend of mine had a 7120 when they first came out. I loved running that tractor! I love watching your channel, love the MTA. I always wanted one of those. I like to watch picking the ear corn, that was always one of my favorite jobs. Stay safe!
That's a great purchase for the farm. I'm glad that you're not a bunch of equipment fanboys where everything has to be a certain color. It reminds me about how my dad was when he considered buying equipment.
Good tractor. I spent quite few hours in one chopping stalks. The farmer I worked for loves his. In fact he went through it restoring it as it was a solid reliable part of his operation
check the pressure's in the accumulators, for the powershift, keep them charged, make sure the valves are adjusted on the engine, and there is a power post in the bottom of the right front cab post, that can give you electrical trouble, no hard to change, it is by the fuse panel. nice looking tractor, i ran a 7120 for awhile, my budd yhad 3 of them, and they all acted different, the one i liked to run had way more power then then the other two 7120's.
I got a 7210 2wd. Inercooled it, put a turbo off a bigger series magnum and gave the pump a turn. Rated about 2-210 pulls the 12ft turbo till about 14mph on hills no problem best purchase ive made
"Boxcar" Magnum as they're known are very solid and reliable machines. We used to run a 92 model 7120 2wd. Never a lick of trouble with that tractor. If it was not misrepresented it should be a great machine for your operation.
I have many many hours in a boxcar magnum. They are pretty bullet proof. Put in a new headliner and upgrade the radio and let it roll. We the harder you use it the more often you will want to change the big hydraulic filter.
You all are great examples of farmers that keep a close eye on money, investing in your farm and future. Why just buy a new tractor, equipment, or even a car when an older, perfectly nice and well maintained one that has many years left of trouble free life, can fill the need, at a tremendously less expensive price. Who needs all the auto-steer, digital readouts, GPS, just to keep up with everyone!!! This is another reason why your family are still in business and expanding, while maintaining a high quality of production in your farm. Being a JD man from way back, you keep turning me more toward that Red color with every video!!! I will say operating my old neighbors 706, for baling and running a haybine, was something I will always remember as being a great experience and wish I could do that again!!! Good luck with your new baby!!!
Very nice tractor, Aaron!! The sheet metal is in such nice shape and you'll keep it that way. I love when a farmer who cares for his equipment obtains cared for equipment. I think your dad likes that tractor as much as you do!! Maybe Brenda for a name?
You have to name the 7120 "The Darb" after your CFO and.... It is always nice to have a 'horse from different stables' to keep all humble. You should be proud of your new purchase/addition for the farm; well done. Thanks for sharing!
That tractor should last you until you are in retirement mode. My cousin bought one new and its still running very well. Yeah a song like that at the right time is one of those events that just fits. Sorta similar, I bought an old panel van (like a bread truck) for like a mobile shop long time ago. Bought it from a nice old lady, her late husband Wilfred owned and used it for a mobile woodworking shop for his business. Well I cleaned it up and had it painted, and had "Wilfred" painted in small script on the hood area. My crew and so many others always called it "Wilfred" and that name became iconic for another panel van that a buddy built up. Maybe you name that tractor "Darby" or a cute nickname you have for her.
Nice tractor it came from a good home. Larry Jerome was a heir to Jerome foods fortune. Started by his dad Wally Jerome"Jenny O Turkey store today" in Barron. He was a excellent farmer took great pride in his equipment and cattle. You did ok at less than $38k everything he had was taken care of.❤👍 Pat from northwest WI
Aaron, I have. 4450 that I bought with 600 hours on it. It now has 52,000 hours. We overhauled the engine twice and the transmission at 35,000 hours. The tractors of that era red and green were certainly bulletproof. You will be very happy I think. Lastly, what is your often cryptically referred to “off farm job”? 😆 It seems you have to drive a ways to get there. Just curious as to what your other skills are. I admire you and your family’s OCD. We have great pride in what we do(milk cows) as you certainly do as well.
I operated a 7110 and that was an incredible machine. You maintain that tractor and take good care of it. It will take great care of you all the best with it.
Those Case Internationals are worth every penny. You couldn't pay me to own a Junk Deere. I grew up with Long and Allis-Chalmers on my Grandfather's dairy farm in Maine and have run quite a few other brands over the years helping other farmers or the families of Army buddies in places like Kansas, Washington, Louisiana, Arkansas and East Texas.
Pretty sure you are going to like this tractor. I have a later model of this tractor (8920) and it’s great ! Only thing I would have like different about these tractors is, a shuttle forward/reverse would have been nice. I also miss having a foot throttle. Compared to newer tractors, road speed seems slow, but most of my tractor time is in the field and not on the road. We have axle duals, and my tractor is primarily a tillage tractor or grain buggy tractor, so duals stay on. Best of luck with this tractor.
Congratulations Aaron, the only thing that I say is that they only go 18-20 mph. Great tractors. The 7110-7150 same tractor just more fuel. Try the BKT's on the back when you get new ones. They have been a great tire for a lot of people around us. You'll enjoy it for sure.
It looks like you have made a great purchase! We own a 1990 7120 2wd model, has just about 8,000 hours and is Very reliable and starts every time! Have hardly put any money into it. The exhaust temp gauge is no big deal, our 7120 does the same thing. You should get a lot of great years with that tractor!
I'm a green guy, but I know guys that have those boxcars and they all like them. They are a nice looking tractor and it looks like you got a nice clean one that had good care. I heard the same thing the one other gentleman said. Don't overheat them. Keep your radiator clean inside and out. I would a good cooling system flush, then you know you are starting with a clean system. Too many people don't pay enough attention to the cooling systems on their tractors. It's very important. Looks like you are definitely gonna need some new rubber on back..I hope it treats you as good as it looks. I say name it Clifford. The BIG RED DAWG!
Recognized all the scenery from Barron County. I grew up on a 60 cow dairy a mile to the west of the farm at 3:52. My wife is friends with the daughter of the farmer that had the tractor.
I have one 1989 with 10k hrs on it. I buy DMI 30 foot cultivator for this tractor. It's my wife and my 15years old daugter best tractor! Very good tractor, congratulation!👍👍
Nice tractor! You look better in red 🤣 I believe that there were two fuel tank options. One option was around 75 gallons and the second option was around 95 gallons. I would name her Ruby
Nice looking machine. Brother and uncle had 7110 and 7130. Good working machines but a warning, don't overheat them. They both scored their pistons. First gen weakness on the case-cummins engines. They added more oil ports to the blocks on the 20s Magnums. Also learned that the 10s will run hot if the radiator is built up. Pressure wash often, and dont let the 10s run hot. Case IH fixed some of the 10s heat problems by adding more hood vents on the 20s. They are great machines and enjoyed running them. Like any magnum, use good quality oil and keep the radiators clean and cool. Looking forward to seeing it in action on your family's farm. Congrats.
If it doesn't have a 4 speed reverse there's a kit for it. That transmission already has all the gears for it just needs the kit unless already installed
I've got every tractor International Harvester ever made, working on getting all the Case IH tractors ever made,we have pretty much all the John Deere tractors ever made they both are good tractors cool video
congratulations on the purchase. I put many hours on different Magnums, they are very nice to operate. miles ahead of the competition that was available at the time. You should get along fine being mechanically inclined. I like to see the manuals well used, that means that someone was looking after it.
We had a 7110.. loved that tractor, you will love the power, trany is a little notchy. Reverse to forward is a pain, but in the field its awesome, enjoy you beautiful new tractor Mr. 👍😁

I think you got a good one there. I have always liked those magnum tractors. I've never owned one but I've run several and I liked em.
Nice clean tractor my man !!!!! Looking forward to see it in upcoming videos !!!
Those big Holstein steers are great property you've got the equipment the know-how and the ambition to do it
Congratulations Aaron! Best of luck with your investment!
You own both of my all time favorites! Boxcar is my all time favorite, 7810 Deere is my 2nd!
Congratulations. Beautiful tractor. I remember my first big tractor was an Oliver 1855 back in the 80’s. I was sure proud of that old machine.
Oliver's were a work horse. My grandad bought his 1800 new when I was just a kid. Pulled a 5 bottom Oliver plow. That Waukesha motor was a strong one.
congratulations on the purchase. I put many hours on different Magnums, they are very nice to operate. miles ahead of the competition that was available at the time. You should get along fine being mechanically inclined. I like to see the manuals well used, that means that someone was looking after it.
Congratulations ! 🎉🎉
I started watching you because of the Oliver. You have come along way. Conrgats.
Great looking Boxcar Magnum! Congrats on the purchase!
We had a 7110.. loved that tractor, you will love the power, trany is a little notchy. Reverse to forward is a pain, but in the field its awesome, enjoy you beautiful new tractor Mr. 👍😁
Tranny is the worst part of the 71 - I'll go in 4R around the yard so I don't have to shift to 13
good tractor you will like it
