The removable one was made to light the stove, before pilot lights. There used to be a ½ inch hole in the bottom, center of the oven that you placed a flame next to to ignite the oven.
@@jaddriscollso no one steals or they'll always have a missing piece. jk, lol. it's so you can light pipes as well. you'd use the bigger part for cigars, cigarettes, candles, ect. For smoking pipes, the smaller detachable piece allows you to control the flame without the lid getting in the way and to reach deeper into the bowl of the pipe.
@@jaddriscollprobably for the same reason that these lighters are decorated and have interesting ways of operation. Part of it is just the novelty, the "wow" and "oh" - effect and being fancy.
The lighter that detaches is most likely so that it can fit into places the larger body cannot, like a candle that is in a jar or glass enclosure. I noticed that the wind guard around the top only covers 3 sides and while this may just be necessary to expose the wick to the spark, I could see this being handy when needing to use the flame while it’s tilted almost upside down - as you would do when lighting a candle like I had mentioned before…or even tilted a bit when you light a pipe perhaps 🤔 This would keep the flame from burning the casing and perhaps leaving those dirty soot marks on your elegant lighter. 🤷♂️ Just my thoughts
I have an old kolibri lighter stamped from west Germany, was able to date it back to the 40s or 50s, I managed to restore it to a functional condition without any idea how lighters work in the slightest, it was my first and only lighter repair/restoration and it made me to happy.
I find a little amusing that mankind perfected the creation of fire with such finesse that this complex and fancy lighters were a mere exercise of engineering and design.
Grandpa's drawers used to be filled with various broken/worn out/"old fashioned" stuff just like this. Most of it went in the trash. Glad you're curating a little slice of the past. Thank you for keeping the flame alight.
Man I love this channel.. I’ve always liked zippos, I have my uncles and he used it in Vietnam.. every single video you post I’m amazing! Great collection and GREAT editing!
I'm still waiting to see that rope knot one in action. it's caught my eye now in at least three of your videos. Awesome work, sweet collection brother ❤
So many different cool designs. It strikes me with awe and leave me with a gasp. I think kids should be shown those old lighters and be awestruck by their creativity and differentness
I think I found a very old lighter from my great-grandfather, and it still works. So my question is, can you find out the age or model from photos? Or how can I get a catalog like the one you have?
Do any of those have asbestos in them? I’m looking to start collecting myself but any with asbestos are ones I’d like to avoid if possible. Thanks in advance mate.
That first one that is lit from a paper cap is pretty cool. I never would have thought of that as a way to ignite the wick.
Cap guns banned for said reason . 😂
-member cap guns?
@ParchedGoat1 so that's what cap guns came from ? To fill the market

REPORT THIS GUY 🥶
The snap from the first lighter is delightful
It uses tape primer, it creates a small explosion when struck.
Ah yes the days of slavery
it sounded like a sneeze
@@ElbynMathews womp womp

We need a documentary length video going over your whole collection!
With classic music. Idk why but the whole collection looks so great that now I want one lmao.
I would watch it several times!
Sounds boring
@Keeki549 then don't watch it ret@rd
He needs more short videos for more views and money
I've been loving this dudes content ever since I came across em. Never knew, I had an itch for old lighter content.
Same lol
Me also, this guy has such a beautiful amazing collection of old and fascinating lighter Flammes
born too late to start my own collection, born just in time to enjoy his collection instead
So thue!! lol Its so enjoyable
Oh yeah, definitely a national treasure.
Can we see the lighter that started your collection?
It was a Bic 😅
that one that ignited his neighbour's house ; )
@@dschonsieno that was me
That is a great suggestion. Hopefully they see this.
@@Klikmation stole my idea 💡 😒
The vintage products always kept the arts and aesthetics which survives ages. Look at the small detailing of each of that.
I don’t know why I feel like this but this whole video is beautiful the lighter, music, background, and the voice. Just goes altogether beautifully
You are very romantic 😁
Virgo, right?

Good guess. I remember those stoves.
The japanese balance between intricacy and playfulness is so enjoyable 🫠
That is literally a tourist trinket. That’s like pointing to a dennys grand slam and saying “isn’t American cuisine unique and innovative?”

The striker lighter looks pretty neat.
The music in this video makes me nostalgic for a time Ive never been to. Such peace
I like how you have all these beautiful antiques and then Yoshi is just amongst them. Truely an icon
I never noticed that. Lol. Suppose his passion for lighters and Yoshi burn with the strongest flames.
Yoshi is truly a timeless icon
sry i didnt mean to dislike
Plot twist: Yoshi's a lighter too
What a beautiful collection you have, I love lighters
ooOOOO the POP on that first one 😩😩😩
Is a nice sound
Older lighters like these are way classy and very cool than newer ones
well there are very good modern lighters but you would pay $100+

The detachable part of the "Perplex" is for passing it around, for example to everyone at a table.
Why not just... pass the lighter around? It's not that big.

At first I thought there was a little crack pipe built in the lighter. So a detachable fire source would be great for this purpose.
