But people will defend British elitism all day Yes he was a criminal but he stood for his country and for the rights of the Irish, that's what I admire.

Four comments. 1. Victoria was NOT a penal colony. 2. The siege at Glenrowan went for 12 hours. Ned Kelly's participation in that siege was about 10 minutes at best. After Ned Kelly opened fire on the police at 3.15 am at the front of the hotel and police returned fire, Kelly was wounded in his left arm by a shotgun blast, and in his right foot. He walked back into the hotel and went straight out the back door, collected his horse and walked some 150 yards before laying down behind a large fallen log. He remained there until just after 7 am, when he approached the police from behind and Sgt Steele took him down with two shotgun blasts to the legs. 3. Ned Kelly NEVER uttered the words "Such is Life" on the gallows. 4. There is not a scrap of evidence anywhere that the police harassed poor Irish landowners. 82% of the police were Irish, and two of the first premiers in Victoria were Irish.
