Literally the most helpful video I've come across!! Thank you so much I've been so frustrated with all the different conflicting information and with having a baby bearded dragon of just 8 weeks that we got yesterday I desperately want to do the right thing and now I've got the clear guidance I was looking for
Always thought it was crazy people feeding baby beardies 100 crickets a day or as many in 15 minutes. When I first got my baby Cheeto, I would feed her a good 20 small bugs a day and always felt like she was underfed despite her being happy/healthy and a little chubby. Makes sense, but I was always stressed out about it. Glad to see you pushing for the correct way. I’d be broke if I followed the 15 minutes a day guideline 😂
This is excellent information...We are in week 4 of owning a baby beardy and are struggling with how much to feed him.. He won't eat his veg and has actually taken to pooing in his veg bowl. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for making this video. Getting a juvenile bearded dragon tomorrow and everyone was saying the 15 min rule. I looked up the price of crickets and did the math. I almost fainted! Your way makes wayyyyy more sense. My only question is the multivitamin? Do they sell a multivitamin for beardies ? I have calcium dist with vit d.
Thanks for your tips! Week 3 of having a beardie, I definitely overfed her the first couple weeks but recently she's been expressing much more interest in veggies & doesn't seem as interested in the crickets/eats them more slowly throughout the day instead of pouncing immediately. I was a bit worried at first but she still seems to be decently active?? I'm learning so much lol
Interesting! I'm wondering if we're basically power feeding other baby reptiles as well. I think people generally associate power feeding with snakes, which is considered to be a negative practice. We currently have a 3-ish month old baby leopard gecko in our care for rehabbing (born with MBD), and the standard advice is to feed her as many bugs as she can eat in a 5-10 minute span EVERY DAY. This rule of thumb seems to include many other species as well, but now I'm questioning it 🤔
Don't do the 5 minute thing. I have a slider turtle, and her food container gives instructions that say to give her all the food she can eat in 2 minutes or less. Turtles grow very slowly. This will lead to obesity for turtles. I don't know much about geckos, but I assume it's the same. It seems to be a reoccurring thing in reptiles.
Love the advice! I’m a first time owner and trying to make sure I have everything right. I own ball pythons so I understand how particular reptile ownership is. However I’m wondering if it’s normal for baby beards not to eat greens or veg? My guy loves anything that moves, but I can’t get him to eat and fruit or veg. Thank you!
I was worried about overfeeding with that 15 minute rule! I'll be getting a baby bearded dragon soon and will follow this guide to let it grow in a more natural way!
My husband and I just got a young bearded dragon still a baby I think I have feed it 6 to 10 crickets but I think I might feed it 6 and also when should I start giving it greens
You should try giving it greens everyday. My 2 month old is 8” and 20 grams. She gets 2-3 bugs in the AM then a few bites of greens in some bee pollen water then again 3 bugs and a few bites of veggies in the afternoon. I dust with calcium on every bug, and supplement with Herptivite multivitamin 1 x week, Nutribacdf probiotic and reptaid immune support 1-2 x per month And leave a bowl of veggies in there all day, I catch mine snacking on the veggies once in a while during the day. I do have to hold out on bugs in the morning some days to get her to eat her veggies, and I even had to not give bugs for 2 days to get her to eat her veggies once, tough love works lol
My bearded dragon is a male that is almost a year old, 266 grams, and 14 inches long. How much and how often should I be feeding him? He has no problem devouring his salads. I feel like I’m feeding him too much, especially salads cause he is having watery urates.
My dragon baby is 7 months old andI've been feeding the wrong way clearly according to you I have def overfed. Is it too late to slow her growth and do your feeding ?
My girl eats more of her salad after it wilts a bit over being fresh. I use to throw that away and give more fresh. I use to waste so much salad on her.
@@valentebenitez9659 we just got ours Sunday the first day he had a big appetite but that’s it. I switched the light to a stronger one gave him a warm bath and that seemed to do the trick.
Pet co has sold sick bearded dragons all over your incorrect I have plenty of pictures here of Petco in Oklahoma having wrong temps and humidity plenty of pictures of baby’s hiding in corners passing away
Sunny window and or grow light, kratky leafy greens, microgreens here, too many chemicals used here for wild picks, being disabled means no gathering in safer places.
Sadly we followed that as we read that every where. Now we know better and try to spread it now. Learned it is 8-12 appropriate sized, per meal and how many meals a day depends on age. Now that is too much too I see. My three year old is fat, we got her when she was over a year old, euthanasia save of a healthy disposable pet. She basically has two true feeder meals a month. She is bioactive and lots of various clean up crew to chase down and eat. I grow leafy greens in her tank for foraging. I feel bad at times and dig in the substrate for tiny baby mealworms to give her and she is happy. She loves microgreens sowed in there too. All the feeders are fed very well, her cuc is mealworms, superworms, powdered orange , dwarf white isopods. A few times a year, I seed bsfl into the substrate, they keep eating and growing and make huge flies. Thank you for these videos!
This is what we are aiming for with ours. How have you found the cuc get on with the dry environment ?

Why is there a trend of "experts" saying almost nothing during a long video. This was horrible imho and the way you just send people links to your other videos instead of answering to their comments is amazing 😂

Ideas for the best greens? I have had her 3 weeks now and she eats about 5-8 bugs a day and I am happy she is having enough!

I've been feeding my 8-month-old 7 to 8 powdered large crickets a day and turnip greens. Sounds like I should cut back.

Great video. Thanks for sharing it. I do have a question, though. Is it OK to leave the daily veg out all day?
what are the cress sprouts packages?

Hey, so how do you feel about feeding reptilinks every now and again? They're 50 percent vegetable and 50 percent protein/insects
If you give calcium when you supply the bugs, what’s the problem? If you make sure they have plenty of water, they won’t get gout
Too much too fast

What about wax worms? How many should I give my juvenile bearded dragon.
@@paulcanale9760 those are fatty so like 2 worms every 2 weeks
It should be given as a treat, not as a ataple
Staple* lol
When doing the gap in feeding for 30+ grams, and later, is that just skipping bugs, or salad too?
Great video.. is it okay to give them calcium powder on their salad?
@@toker-ff6vx yeah
Hi, I see in the video that the baby is on a loose substrate. Is it okay at 3 months old that they can be on loose substrate?
I’ve put them on loose substrate from birth, nothing happens
@@ReptilesandResearch 🤔🤔🤔🤔 I'm going to go for a bioactive enclosure. I need s couple of things such as CUC, and substrate thank you for reponding.
Hey there. Can gou please suggest what is healthy weight for 16 month old beardies?

How long does the beardie stay a "baby"? And how many to feed at the next stage of age?

So just to confirm, is it the length of the insect should be equal to the gap between the BD eyes or the width of the insect?
Its width of insect! I saw him say this in another vid :)
Mine isnt really eating, we give her bugs but she seems to not see them or care about them
I js got my baby beardy and he/she is having this problem as well do you know how to resolve it???

You are contradicting my vet?
You shouldn’t compare them to kids, they instinctively know what to eat

That's why TH-cam needs to bring back the dislike count. So users can determine bad information.
