I'm just wondering what the logic is behind the whole non-stop whistling and cheering thing. Is the theme of this thing "make as much noise as you can"?
They do this because India and Pakistan are rivaling brother countries. They share a very long history, and have been enemies many times. The ceremony is a theatralic show-off of pride, very visual. That's why they even wear hats borrowed from the display of certain birds. Most countries have theatralic military ceremonies, like changing of the guards, but here you have a border crossing between brotherly rivals, so they have exaggerated the display quite a bit for the spectators to cheer and enjoy.
@@Gumbypotty Wasting your time with these stupid liberals in the comments? They don't care, all they care about is their money and the culture-less things they like/do.

This ceremony started in 1959, so John Cleese may have been inspired by this instead of the other way around. Stomping marching soldiers is a centuries old thing of both disciplin and theathre. The indians and pakistanis are like rivaling brothers, so this display is exaggerated for the cheers and enjoyment of the spectators. Much better than fighting eachother with guns again. ;-)
Imagine having to wash and press those uniforms to perfection each and every day. Now I understand truely why I hated ceremonial duties in the military.
I don't know if you were in your branch's "Honor guard' but I wasn't. As for wearing your formal uniform, I too hated it especially when it was for inspection or drill/marching. Dry cleaning, inspecting it and the practicing of marching really sucked. Most Americans wonder why we don't have an annual military parade like other countries. For those who NEVER wore the uniform, they'll never know. First of all, it's a waste of money/resources and the time spent practicing the marching to perfection with multiple times throughout the day and week is just frustrating...
