Situated on the outskirts of Sariska National park and surrounded by the Aravali range is Alwar is the abandoned town of Bhangarh.
Located in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, the Bhangarh Fort is an ancient fort dating back to the 17th century, apart from its magnificent location the fort also has a chilling reputation of being the most haunted place in India.
Legend has it that Bhangarh Fort was built by Bhagwant Das for his younger son, Madho Singh . However, the fort's eerie atmosphere and the surrounding ghost stories have made it infamous.
One tale involves a beautiful princess, Ratnavati, who lived in the nearby palace. A Tantrik (occult practitioner) fell in love with her and tried to use magic to win her over. Ratnavati, however, saw through his plans and turned the spell back on him, leading to his demise. Before his death, the Tantrik cursed the fort, dooming it to desolation.
Over the years, Bhangarh Fort fell into ruin, with its dilapidated walls and empty courtyards. Locals believe that the spirits of the Tantrik and the princess still linger, haunting the fort and its vicinity.
Whether you believe in the supernatural or not, Bhangarh Fort remains a mysterious and captivating destination, where history and ghostly folklore intertwine, leaving an indelible mark on those who dare to enter its haunted realm.
