- Preserve Educational Coordinator Santino Lauricella describes one of his favorite native wildflowers, the closed bottle gentian (Gentiana andrewsii). This plant, with blooms perpetually closed, co-evolved alongside strong pollinator partners like our native bumblebees.
that was a cool shot of that bee coming out! wow that color spectrum explanation was amazing!!
Thank you!
Fascinating!! Thank you!
Amazing to watch the bumblebee emerging from the flower.
Loved the vid but I was looking for sun/shade, soil, watering too.
Looking up what a gentian is and got here. Pretty purple flowers and Santino is a good presenter. The shot of the bumblebee pushing itself out was cute too.
One of my favorite plants. I've seen it all over the Adirondacks.
This is fascinating, thank you!
Thanks!
Such a neat flower. Neat info that you've shared here - love the comparison to pop for the pollinators! I just got some seeds myself and am looking forward to planting them soon. Any idea how long it might take to see flowers?
Thanks so much! I believe that bottle gentian seeds require 60 days Cold Moist Stratification before they germinate. Flowers should follow that, appearing in the fall.
@@BowmansHillWildflowerPreserve cool! Thanks so much for the info!
