- Comparisons of people singing the high C from the Boheme aria. Some modern tenors against the all time greats. The point is not to make a mockery of the modern tenors, they're not the most famous or sought out ones today. Rather, it's an attempt to analyze the difference between a great singer and an average singer. Obviously the great singers generally had better technique than average singers. More in-depth analysis videos are on the way, consider this a sort of preliminary.
For instance, what makes a great operatic voice?
It must be clear.
There must be 'body' to the sound, that is the color must be retained all the way through to the top.
It is very important however, to bring out all the color that the voice already posses. First, all the color must be brought out, then, it must be made even throughout the range.

i think pav has a certain ease and flow to the sound...it sounds easy and not strained for him.

@@ljay4217 he means Franco Corelli, a spinto tenor who appears in this video in the minute 1:46 . In fact, i agree with you, Luciano Pavarotti is the greatest Rodolfo, but i guess in this video you have very good singers, like Corelli, Bjorling (1:26) or Lauri-Volpi (1:01).

Who's the dude @ 0:51? Sounds like he's nailing it, but the sound's too quiet to tell for sure.
If you listen closely, the sound isn't quiet, you can hear the orchestra just fine, it's his voice that has trouble carrying... anyway it's Jonathan Tetelman... another one of the fake tenors the industry keeps churning out....
Compare it the the Pavarotti clip in b/w where the sound is also quiet but all you hear is Pavarotti's high C...
@@jamesbond4547 You don't think it's maybe a mic issue? Sounds like the orchestra's mic-ed, but he isn't. Either way, still prefer Pavarotti for sure!

So many great high C´s. The first is glorious, and the sitting one, bravo..... Pavarotti on the line, of overdoing it...I own videos of him singing La boheme and Il trovatore singing the arias LOWER....("The king of the High C" ) Great singer, bot NOT a "God"....
