  • A 1997 Model Kenmore Limited Edition Direct Drive Washing Machine overloaded to more than 3 times capacity. Rollover was slow but it still managed to power through and wash the clothes.
    I normally do not overload this machine like this, I just wanted to see how it would handle it.
    This machine was found and salvaged from the local landfill.

    I bought this washer at the junkyard for 16 bucks, all it was was the timer wasn't working, that was an easy fix, Cleans clothes really good.

    That is way too heavy of a load on that agitator, which will work the gears harder and they'll wear out sooner. You fill clothes up loosely to the top of the basket WITHOUT shoving them down.

    Ladies & Gentlemen, please DON’T DO THIS. Not only would your clothes not come out clean, you WILL damage your washer. Even these old direct drives weren’t designed for this. It puts a tremendous strain on the machine.

      Yeah, the rebuilt tranny I bought has issues. Right out of the box. I replaced the timer then threw the old transmission back in and VIOLA! Good as new.
      Did you send your rebuilt transmission back?

      It will completely break and fail the washer. A fairly sized load of towels, let alone a 3x cap load, makes it struggle to agitate and you can tell.

    Barely any detergent and too much water in fabric softener dispenser comes out of it. Total waste clothes are not moving at all!!! Some people should not wash clothes.

      I found another salvaged machine the other day (maytag depedable care) and will likely repeat the same test i did on this one...

    • @theflyingscottsman1017
      @theflyingscottsman1017  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have found you can actually go slighty higher with the water in the farbic softner. At about 3/4 visible full it will leak as it overflows the internal 'baffle' in the dispenser, otherwise it dispenses well during the first spin...the thinner the better for flow. Most people i know do not add any water and then wonder why thier dispenser clogs and grows stuff inside it that could be classified as a whole new species.

    • @petermaz701
      @petermaz701 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be a nice test see how the maytag dependable care handles that giant load. To bad it wasn't a real 100% Maytag

    • @theflyingscottsman1017
      @theflyingscottsman1017  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it is a real maytag 1996 model made in the old Maytag factory in Newton, Ia...very well constructed with metal inner and outer tubs...i hooked it up to a garden hose and it works flawlessly..all i could find wrong was the water level needed to be adjusted (it was only filling halfway) and the belts will need to be changed eventually...this machine will last for many more decades.

      BroccoliBeefed I'm pretty sure the description said that he doesn't do this Normally but just wanted to try it out. 1 wash won't kill the machine. Also he isn't mixing cement with the machine all the time.
