- Today we check in on Foundations with a Collector box opening!
I think we can safely say that Foundations is not just a good but also a popular set. The challenge is that these Collector boxes are now over $300 per box. ($335+ after the filming of the video) I believe the fractured foil cards will continue to command a high premium. The flip side is, with high value "lottery" cards available, is there enough value in the set otherwise to justify the $300+ price point?

I like this set but I find that the only (base copy) card worth chasing is Bloodthirsty Conqueror. I picked up a borderless foil and now between that and pre release kits I played I have basically everything
Also, singles prices are down here in Canada due to difficulty in having them shipped to you. Our postal service has been on strike for the last 2 weeks and they can't come to an agreement. The company has basically said they're totally out of money to operate in early 2025 and so they can't meet the union demands.

There are going to be some cards of value but it’s really tough to know what impact having a set around for 5 years will have on singles prices. Uncharted territory.

Not a bad opening! I am surprised these are going for 300 a box. Personal opinion, I don't think it will last. The artwork is pretty amazing though, and they brought back some cards that I enjoy. Can always use a memorial, great pull!

These will be printed for 5 years remember. Every opening is exciting now but won’t be in a year or more. The cards you’re looking for will be way more affordable in 6 months to a year.
What I think they will do is make some changes to Foundations through to years as they were doing with List cards.
This is a weird one… on one hand, Foundations itself will be available for the next few years as they have said it will be in Standard for at least 5 years.
On the other hand, collector boxes are, in theory, a single print run. While we don’t know the size of the print run, if some of the fracture foils and mana symbols command a premium as sought after collectables it may/should keep the collector box prices elevated. But there are definitely a lot of “IF’s” in there.

Wizards has managed to do what they set out to recently with collector boxes. Anime cards & fractured/mana foils being high value and sought after thus keeping the collector boxes as actually collectible. Those with the funds can get lots of bling.
Yet, many of the regular cards are still very attainable for deck building. Seems to be working as intended. However, that leads to Play Boosters being WAY less fun and not really worth opening at price, so still not perfect. I'm sure taking 6 packs out of them but keeping the price the same will fix that issues. 🙃
I wasn’t initially sold on Mana Foils but they look pretty sweet. Agree that the gap between collector and play boosters is massive now and that’s a shame.

Agree. This will be an interesting experiment. Obviously you’ll be able to find base copies of cards within for a long time because it’ll be in print for a while but the collector box exclusives will be especially interesting considering the finite print run.

for as big as this set is there's not a lot of high value cards that being said it a strong set power wise. dont thing it worth what it going for the play booster box is brutal and the planeswalkers make it so much worse
Any set with Mythic Planeswalkers is really challenging from a value standpoint. Either they’re super busted and potentially format breaking or they’re essentially unplayable in constructed formats and become wasted Mythic pulls.
There’s some solid value in the set but it’s also a huge set. So I’m wondering about the variance factor.
