    Do you realize how much this music means to us? 60 years on and we’re still fanatically attached to this song of Neil’s. We’re the last generation who will be like this. That’s sad. Nothing is more important than music

    Classic rendition . That middle violinist in blue knows how great this track truly is and was getting so into the song barely keeping her emotions together . This is my favorite Neil song right next to 'Will to Love'

    What a perfect rendition of such an ethereal song. Not the easiest of styles to play at all. It's one of my favorites of Neil's. I was surprised at how many other "rocker," friends of mine stop what they're doing to listen to this gem of a song.

    They sound just like the original recording only better because they're playing it live! I wonder if Neil has heard this.

    • @davidgargiulo7964
      @davidgargiulo7964 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am very glad that Neil has heard this rendition of his song.

    • @davidmurray2539
      @davidmurray2539 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your ears deceive you. It does not sound just like the original. The original defies all attempts at mimicry as it is absolutely "perfect". To my mind the greatest song to ever come out of the genre.
      This version is really good and it stirs the emotions, and I mean to be very complimentary in saying that .

    • @Spanosmusic
      @Spanosmusic ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidmurray2539 As I'm sure you know, Jack Nitzsche came up with the orchestral arrangement which would have been written down on sheet music. This orchestra is playing the exact same thing note for note, reading it from sheet music. Neil's rhythm guitar part is easy to play and to my ears, as a musician, the only things that sound different are the recordings themselves, (the original being a studio recording and this one a live recording) and the vocals, although they are good Neil's voice would have made it sound exactly as the original recording only being played live. Since Richie sang and played on a couple of songs I would like to think they would have also invited Neil to come and sing and play, but for whatever reason that didn't happen.
      I've always loved this song, it's haunting with the raw emotions of youthful hurt and pain resulting from the end of a relationship that feels as if the world is going to end and will never be the same again. Neither Buffalo Springfield or Neil Young ever played the studio version of this song which is something I have yearned to hear for years.
      Recordings that were locked away for almost 40 years were finally released and one of them I also found almost as haunting as Expecting To Fly is What Ever Happened to Saturday Night. Although Richie is singing Neil wrote it and is playing on it. tremolo

    • @davidmurray2539
      @davidmurray2539 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Spanosmusic After Buffalo Springfield, with one exception, Neil Young could never be labeled a "joiner ". He accepted a slot with CSN as a means to acquire quick wealth and raise his exposure level to a world of waiting fans. And in exchange for his pedestrian musical offerings to that group I'd say it was the most '"profitable", in every regard, decision of his professional life, so it's understandable in these later times why he wouldn't get involved in a project like this one, as good as it certainly is, even if repeatedly invited. That's Neil. There's something about the stoned teenage bravura of "There you stood on the edge of your feather, expecting to fly" and
      Nitzsche's higher plane ethereal orchestration that I can neither articulate nor fill in the missing pieces except to say that for the remainder of the song, and further, a human lifetime, we are all subject to the vagaries and vicissitudes of this world, in all their aspects. And I wouldn't be looking upwards and expecting solace from those beautiful strings. Down here, it's an often melancholy, sporadically controllable affair, life.

    The guitar must be tuned down a whole step? He is playing it in D and the Orchestra is playing in C. What does the keyboard player have up there, is it a mellotron? Wonderful rendition but no one could cry that song like Neil and I am not a big Neil fan. Love that crack on the snare drum, hit it just right.
