Sorry nat geo, not agreeing with this. Firstly, there is a difference between witch and wiccan and the terms should not be seen as synonims. Wicca is a religion, witchcraft is a practice, a lifestyle. You can be wiccan without practicing witchcraft and you can be a witch without obeying the wiccan belief. Secondly, we are not always dressed in black, don't all gather in woods in the middle of the night.. we are a lot less scary and less of a cult than how nat geo makes us seem here. I don't want to judge but these people are not the most normal Wiccans. The editing of this makes it look like a creepy horror film. Honestly, why? There are levels in extremeness in every religion. My dad was a Gardnerian Pagan, as an American is is difficult to learn traditional Wicca so we learn from outside sources such as the internet and such. I personal buy books from English publishers or established and respected Wiccans High Priests and Priestesses to learn my way. I am in no way the most knowledgable of people when it comes to my faith but we have to establish a base somewhere and somehow. But I agree this is very much a Wiccan video.

my biggest dream is to make the biggest library of non-monotheist religion or sect from all the nation in earth , where they can share knowledge and magic .
Those people just tried it as a personal practice. They don't ask the for troubles of the British government (like forcing the British government to add wicca texts in their textbooks) or lobbied the government; they practice faiths as a law-abiding citizen. Why do we even bother? Let them practice what they wish to.
I'm a Christian and I accept good people regardless of their beliefs, I believe in magic, science and divinity, just not the way other Christians or Wiccan's do, I worship Christ because he's the only one that has earned my faith. So what if others believe in different things so what, we all make our choices in life and our choices makes us who we are, I respect Wiccan I just don't believe in their ways, I believe in love, compassion, honesty and respect the only four element for that can unite the world.

For me personally, both magick, auras, spirits and all other things in the Wiccan faith are not above science- however with how they are now at best they are psudo-sciences. They are very difficult to test to say the least but I have my own experiences that validate them to me. I would indeed love to see science to help bring evidence to the Wiccan faith- however that is out of reach for now but not forever. Most Wiccans do not disregard the scientific method, by the way. The majority actually love to understand science and how things are on a fundamental level. Science is nature. Wiccan is fundamentally all about nature and the love of it.
Gosh, Wicca is such a beautiful belief! I'm not Wiccan myself, but I've become interested in it and read a bunch about it. I really do think it's fascinating. I don't get why people get so angry about it. :/ Regardless, it's quite lovely and I'm glad it hasn't died.

Wiccan for me is being spiritually connected to the universe and myself. I also enjoy studying the history of Wicca and practicing a lot of the rituals for spiritual enlightenment 😌

I watched a documentary yesterday evening on Wicca in England. It is apparently, the fastest growing religion in Britain. It was the only religion England exported to the rest of the world. It started here. It is being embraced by a lot of young people. I think it is very attractive, I can understand why paganism is growing!

The representation is very watered down and still casts a shadow on what it is really about! 1) Wicca is not the same as the Pagan faith! I simple way to understand is that Wicca is more built around it. 2) Was there really a reason to add that background music? 3) We don't take the power from the gods and goddesses, we already have that power, and use it WITH them (that is an opinion). 4) Wicca and Witchcraft are two separate things. Wicca includes the things that witchcraft has and you have the option to practice it as a faith, however, witchcraft is not a religion! It is just the practice on its own. It's a very healthy alternative if you love the practice but do not believe in the deities. 5) Normally you will not go into the woods and find twelve hooded men and women cloaked in black humming a song to a burning cauldron, I mean, that is something people do...but it is not the most common thing to see. 6) When the lady was making the spell, they should have explained what she was doing with her hand movements and not say anything leaving others to wonder if that was some dark magic. 7) NEVER EXPLAINED TO YOUNG WITCHES THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO JOIN A COVEN!!! Of course, these are all my opinions, and every witch is unique.

I just wanted to say that when I was your age I was also about to join a certain religion that I'm not going to name on the Internet. Spiritually, I grew a lot through this experience but in a very painful and unpleasant way. I think it's great that you show interest in religion and it shows that you're a very smart young woman. I think you partially realise this yourself but you're in a very vulnerable age where your critical thinking is not as developed as it will be in 5, or even 2 years. I'm not criticising wiccan religion (from an idealistic perspective!) in any way, I'm just saying that you have to be very careful in these type of things and take it as slow as possible. I'd say give yourself at least 3 years to get to know the religion and yourself before making any big decisions. I hope I didn't come off as tol patronising, I just don't want to watch someone go through the same things that I did.

@CoCo Crusher Actually, Wicca *is* a religion. With variant sects called "Traditions", some are based in polytheism, some in pantheism and soft animism, or a blend of all of those. There are specific practices and set of principles of beliefs, like the Wiccan Rede, and the Three Fold Law, and other principles.

I know that the Bible is the only book you've ever read and that you think it answers all of life's questions but you have to realize that: A lot a Wiccans use to be Christian and own Bibles. I personally hated going to church and after reading the Bible I found it to be a vile and asinine book. When I discovered Wicca and a local community center for Wiccans, I felt like this is where I belong.
After converting to Wicca I actually get sick whenever I touch a christian bible, I know this isn't normal and that maybe I should seek help, but hopefully it's just a phase :/

As much as I understand the comments within this comment section I think it’s important to acknowledge that this video was made and posted over ten years ago. As a practising witch and Wiccan it is very frustrating to be constantly painted in a satanic, cultish light but in our society today I don’t think such a video as this would be made as there is simply more of a general awareness about our religion and the practise of witchcraft. Obviously when this was made and released there was no malicious intent on the behalf of National Geographic and I’m sure if they were to produce a video detailing Wicca and witchcraft today it would be a lot different and a lot more socially and politically correct so to speak. To newcomers to the religion and craft, this is very far from the day to day lives of real wiccans and witches and I would highly recommend to anyone that you shouldn’t seek or rely on just one source for information. If Wicca and witchcraft are truly something that interests you I would recommend Harmony Nice’s TH-cam channel and Scott Cunningham’s Wicca books!💛

Neo Paganism grew out of various groups in the mid 60s on up to the 1970s and many of them did not consider themselves to be "witches" and did not follow Gardnerian Wica/Witchcraft Religion

My dad was a Gardnerian Pagan, as an American is is difficult to learn traditional Wicca so we learn from outside sources such as the internet and such. I personal buy books from English publishers or established and respected Wiccans High Priests and Priestesses to learn my way. I am in no way the most knowledgable of people when it comes to my faith but we have to establish a base somewhere and somehow. But I agree this is very much a Wiccan video.

While Wicca is a very young religion, it's very interesting. I myself am Pagan and though the two aren't mutually exclusive, I do love that there are other people who share my beliefs.

Those people just tried it as a personal practice. They don't ask the for troubles of the British government (like forcing the British government to add wicca texts in their textbooks) or lobbied the government; they practice faiths as a law-abiding citizen. Why do we even bother? Let them practice what they wish to.
I'm a Christian and I accept good people regardless of their beliefs,
I believe in magic, science and divinity, just not the way other Christians or Wiccan's do, I worship Christ because he's the only one that has earned my faith.
So what if others believe in different things so what, we all make our choices in life and our choices makes us who we are, I respect Wiccan I just don't believe in their ways, I believe in love, compassion, honesty and respect the only four element for that can unite the world.

For me personally, both magick, auras, spirits and all other things in the Wiccan faith are not above science- however with how they are now at best they are psudo-sciences. They are very difficult to test to say the least but I have my own experiences that validate them to me. I would indeed love to see science to help bring evidence to the Wiccan faith- however that is out of reach for now but not forever.
Most Wiccans do not disregard the scientific method, by the way. The majority actually love to understand science and how things are on a fundamental level. Science is nature. Wiccan is fundamentally all about nature and the love of it.

I watched a documentary yesterday evening on Wicca in England. It is apparently, the fastest growing religion in Britain. It was the only religion England exported to the rest of the world. It started here. It is being embraced by a lot of young people. I think it is very attractive, I can understand why paganism is growing!

The representation is very watered down and still casts a shadow on what it is really about!
1) Wicca is not the same as the Pagan faith! I simple way to understand is that Wicca is more built around it.
2) Was there really a reason to add that background music?
3) We don't take the power from the gods and goddesses, we already have that power, and use it WITH them (that is an opinion).
4) Wicca and Witchcraft are two separate things. Wicca includes the things that witchcraft has and you have the option to practice it as a faith, however, witchcraft is not a religion! It is just the practice on its own. It's a very healthy alternative if you love the practice but do not believe in the deities.
5) Normally you will not go into the woods and find twelve hooded men and women cloaked in black humming a song to a burning cauldron, I mean, that is something people do...but it is not the most common thing to see.
6) When the lady was making the spell, they should have explained what she was doing with her hand movements and not say anything leaving others to wonder if that was some dark magic.
7) NEVER EXPLAINED TO YOUNG WITCHES THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO JOIN A COVEN!!!

I just wanted to say that when I was your age I was also about to join a certain religion that I'm not going to name on the Internet. Spiritually, I grew a lot through this experience but in a very painful and unpleasant way.
I think it's great that you show interest in religion and it shows that you're a very smart young woman. I think you partially realise this yourself but you're in a very vulnerable age where your critical thinking is not as developed as it will be in 5, or even 2 years. I'm not criticising wiccan religion (from an idealistic perspective!) in any way, I'm just saying that you have to be very careful in these type of things and take it as slow as possible. I'd say give yourself at least 3 years to get to know the religion and yourself before making any big decisions.
I hope I didn't come off as tol patronising, I just don't want to watch someone go through the same things that I did.

Actually, Wicca *is* a religion. With variant sects called "Traditions", some are based in polytheism, some in pantheism and soft animism, or a blend of all of those. There are specific practices and set of principles of beliefs, like the Wiccan Rede, and the Three Fold Law, and other principles.

Thanks for the video. I've been seriously ill for a long time. I would like to ask - can I practice wicca magic even when being so sick? Isn't it maybe necessary to do it only healthy? I feel like this could be the path for me, I love nature and I have always felt real god in there.

As much as I understand the comments within this comment section I think it’s important to acknowledge that this video was made and posted over ten years ago. As a practising witch and Wiccan it is very frustrating to be constantly painted in a satanic, cultish light but in our society today I don’t think such a video as this would be made as there is simply more of a general awareness about our religion and the practise of witchcraft. Obviously when this was made and released there was no malicious intent on the behalf of National Geographic and I’m sure if they were to produce a video detailing Wicca and witchcraft today it would be a lot different and a lot more socially and politically correct so to speak. To newcomers to the religion and craft, this is very far from the day to day lives of real wiccans and witches and I would highly recommend to anyone that you shouldn’t seek or rely on just one source for information. If Wicca and witchcraft are truly something that interests you I would recommend Harmony Nice’s TH-cam channel and Scott Cunningham’s Wicca books!💛
