I'm a new subscriber! Great video! I've been restoring some things that were my dads! I truly get that nostalgia concept! There's something meat about working on and with my dad's old stuff! Have a safe 4th, today!

That is a great tribute to your father. I'm sure he would be glad that you value it so much you went to the trouble to have it restored like that.

My father just gave me his old Starrett No.436 25mm ratchetless that he used in the 80s and 90s, one little adjustment with the wrench and it's still running true!

Nothing wrong with cheaper Chinese tools. If they work ...they work. If you ever have a problem though, it's your problem. You have no idea who made it or where to get it repaired. If you've had the tool any length of time even the importer may out of business. It's time to use the tool as a wall hanging and buy another one. For you that may be the economical thing to do.
If you buy name brand tools you will pay more, but you usually get quality that lingers a lot longer. If you need parts and service, that's usually available.Lose a special screw or fastener on a Starrett tool and a replacement is a phone call away.
It is a tough choice about what to buy when it's your hard earned money. If your livelihood depends on your tools you will observe in all the trades that you don't see much bargain basement equipment.
    Cheers from NC/USA

Harold, thanks for watching. You're correct about saving some things, even if not economically smart. ~John

Bit odd that they sent that mic out with jaws closed shut. Going from cold to hot climates can’t be good for it. But very impressed. Shame we here in Southern Hemisphere wouldn’t get the same service.. cost a mint to send one back to USA

Next time you get a moisture absorbent pack, stick it in the box with that keepsake.

Is there a way to tell around how old one is? I have one that looks identical minus the ratcheting end. It was my great grandfathers.

Baker, thanks for watching, I don't know how to tell the actual age of the tool. You may consider checking with Sterrett.
