Kuuga needs more recognition as the father of heisei. I watched a lot of crossovers and most of them treat kuuga as background rider

To be fair they really can't do anything with him since the actor that played godai will never come back because he didn't like playing the character.
Kuuga was an amazing show. Not having more than one Rider let them really focus on Godai and his circle of friends and made for a fantastic story. It's one season where I was really genuinely upset when I got to the last episode, because I didn't want to say goodbye to the characters.

Kuuga - No Fear! No Pain!
No fear, no pain just a guy in Loincloth headbutting a train...
Until now, kuuga still is for me, has the best story. They really pulled it off in making something different. And when you see it, its more like watching a crime detective drama but kamen rider happens to be in it. Everything and everyone is so realistically depicted & has their own flaws, even the subplots & conflicts are so relatable. A scientist mother struggled to maintain relationship with her son because of her work is the most i can remember, but there are others. After that, they up the “hero” aspect & the gimmicks so it becomes the toy marketing ridiculous gimmick with sometimes outrageous story kamen rider that we know & used to nowadays. In kuuga, the rider is nothing without the police’s support. He literally cant do anything on his own. Heck, even the trychaser 2000 & beatchaser 2000 are police’s property. Thats why i’m so disappointed when they depicted the police in drive as bunch of ridiculous characters, so far from my image of how police should be depicted in kamen rider, because that was my benchmark then. I really really hope i can see a rider story with this kind of realism again, but for now, i think amazons filled the need quite well.

I agree that kuuga is probably THE best Heisei rider so far. However, Drive on it's own wasn't that bad either. The police characters were more fun than serious yet not a bad take considering how they are aiming on younger audience now. Despite that, Drive to me is still one of the better rider series in recent years.
Light Zhu i agree with that. And i understand why they do it. Its just i was so disappointed because its not what i'm expected before. I imagine it will be like kuuga, a rider with lots of supporting characters & interesting mystery & crimes to solve. Then i saw the 1st episode, i was heartbroken. But then i just going through it & turns out its quite okay for a series.
@Jeffery Tang clearly you are the 0.000001% from fanbase that hate kuuga. He is the only heisei rider that doesn't have 2nd rider but have awesome support character(polices) unlike ghost with useless spectre or wizard with useless beast. Conclusion is stay at school kid

I'm somewhat still new to Tokusatsu as a whole but I the first Kamen Rider I started watching was Kuuga and it will hold a special place in my heart for the entirety of my life

I would love to see more of this series. I find the backstory of how these shows were produced, especially things that were dropped mid season, to be very interesting.

This video has given me more appreciation for Kuuga, a show that's already one of my favorite Rider seasons. There was clearly a ton of passion put into it, in terms of production and design.
The franchise that once called "old man show" (it's true. In the 90's, people who watched Showa Kamen Rider were basically in their 30's at least) now stand proud as the most popular tokusatsu series.

Kuuga is and was the most original comeback which brought back the original dark series that Ishinomori had envision since 1970.
When I first heard in 1999 that a Kamen Rider series was coming back, It was almost the Second Coming was happening!!!
This series had so much and it was a perfect way to start the Millennium.
Understandable that fight scenes was kept limited due to the fragility of the costumes.
There was three things that did not help the series....
Small and useless moments focused on side characters. Ex. The lab technician worries about his son and drives home quickly to see if he finally went to bed(albeit in a beautiful yet brutal fight scene with Kuuga and a Grongi Monster)
In episode 36-37, there is a dream sequence where Kuuga in his Amazing Mighty form fights and loses to DeKuva. This was Not a dream but a cheap short cut to inform viewers that a battle had happened and punked out in even filming this epic piece of drama.
Finally the lead, Ryusuke Godai is the most annoying hero/Rider Lead to ever grace the series. There are things that worked with him in the series that almost redeem him as the Rider but he will never be like Takeshi Hongo or Kotaro Minami.
His cheesy thumbs up and the phony Pat Croce positive attitude in life fails to illuminate this perfect dark adventure. But to add insult over injury was casting Joe Odagiri. He is a very talented actor but his poor negative attitude that still hasn’t change for the Tokusatsu is no help in passion or for the fans!!!
Overall this series would help usher many great series after Kabuto as cool dark Rider series of the 2K. Kiva and Decade had the return of that theme but later on. Series such as W-Build are mostly trinket accumulation driven gimmick with multi google forms and combinations and les on actual courage and will power to go against the odds.
Shotaro Ishimori was very much involved in creating Kuuga after his untimely passing. But the big mystery is what was the proposed Rider series for 1989-1990 after Black RX???
Not counting the original but yet boring Shin Kamen Rider. There was a proposed Rider series after RX’s poor ratings that ended the party.
I'll have to disagree with some of your opinions, with all due respect.
First of all, a lot of the side stories really worked to show the main theme of the show. The show not only follows a dark main plot, but also focus on how there is so much good in humanity, and we together (many under the positive influence of the Rider himself) can overcome the darkness. A lot of the stories really touched me and helped showing the heroism of the main Rider.
Also, I have to disagree with you saying that Godai is the most annoying main rider. Even though the actor wasn't particularly fond of the series, it doesn't stop Godai from being one of the best riders of all time (and may I say one of the most popular as well). Even though the plot is often dark, the main rider doesn't have to go along with it. In fact, Godai was always positive despite of the situation, which is really kind of the whole point. He griefs, he angers, yet he puts all of the pressure only on himself and changes everyone around him with his power of positivity. You tell me that's not rider spirit right there.
The thumbs-up wasn't that bad either. I even think it's contagious and fits perfectly on a character like Godai.

I think most people would if Joe did come back in Zi-O. The problem is to how to make him look 18 years younger than he actually is now.

I really like your poem at the end, it's awesome. But it got me thinking. What if Toei is trying to bring back metal hero as well? We've seen the countless cross overs with sentai and kamen rider. Not to mention the references kamen rider and sentai makes to them.
I'm hoping that they do.
Gavan comes up once in a while, even in some crossovers, but I suspect these minimal appearances indicate how profitable it would be.
Malunis there has been several gavan films recently and now they're bringing back jiraiya in the upcoming kyuranger vs space squad film.
There were four kamen rider movies in the 90's, Ultraman vs Kamen rider, Shin Kamen Rider: Prologue, zo and finally J. But super deformed anime Rider Black RX was around during that time as well. At time the movie hakaida came out, I remember reading in Bandai Club or B-Club talk of a new Kamen Rider movie or series. Ishinomori Shotaro died just before Kuuga came out. If anyone was reading Hobby Japan and B-Club in the 90's, that was the main way to keep up with then current tokusatsu shows. There were also personal internet websites on geocities or fortune City that were dedicated to any tokusatsu show. I also think that due to the succes of Ultraman Tiga, Dyna and Gaia, might have lead to the revitalization of Kamen Rider. BTW, Shin Kamen Rider: Prologue (真・仮面ライダー 序章(プロローグ) already had a leg up in terms of realism-horror, as that was considered a re-imagining of the rider series. Shin Kamen Rider wasn't a cyborg either.

Agito aint that important. Ryuki is more important since it was the one which started the real Heisei Era in 2002.
Kuuga and Agito belonged in the proto-Heisei Era since they resemble the Showa Riders. Ryuki onwards didnt resemble the Showa Riders at all

I was wondering how Kamen Rider Kuuga look so high quality at the time, like the music and special effects. Timeranger that was aired around the same time as Kuuga look so low quality and outdated like it could fit with the 80s and early 90s TV shows.
Why is it that?
Because kamen rider had high budget than super sentai.

Too bad, though, cuz we are not seeing Yusuke Godai return anytime soon. But I guess I can't blame Joe Odagiri for not liking it, most likely considering the mindset towards KR prior to Kuuga.
Nevertheless, thank you, Kuuga, for bringing back KR to the modern age and it still continues to be my source of inspiration, especially for someone like me born with Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD.

I've never seen KUUGA but I have seen its sequel AGITO and if its anything like said follow-up than I'm guessing the so-called 'heroes' spend more time bickering among each other and wasting time far outside the main cases while A LOT of innocent people get killed by monsters. Sorry, but I really didn't like AGITO.
Enshohma As someone who has watched Kuuga twice and hasn’t seen Agito yet, I can honestly say that it’s nothing like how you described Agito.The hero and side characters are all on the same page and pretty much work together to solve the cases.Not to mention that the police are actually competent in this show, which’s pretty much unheard of in this genre.
Enshohma What you describe sounds more like Faiz haha - don't really recall much of that outside of that one officer, and it was framed within the show as petty. All the miscommunication between the Riders felt more reasonable.

Enshohma Ok, but Agito wasn't a sequel to Kuuga. Different writers, entirely different casts. Sure, there are passing references to Kuuga, but Agito is in no way a direct sequel to Kuuga. It's like saying Drive is a sequel to the Kamen Rider G special because both feature the organization Shade. And Agito has it's merits. Sure, it's writer can have his head up his own ass sometimes but personally I think he's created some interesting characters. Takumi from Faiz, or even Ryu/Gills.
