Jetman is definetly one of the darkest entries in the sentai series, but arguably one of my favourites. I really like the designs of the costume and mecha. The love story between ryu and rei ended very tragicly (wasn't really too fond of ryu and gai's love triangle with kaori), the villians i thought were pretty great, the main team was pretty likeable, with black condor being my favourite and yellow owl my least. This series also had arguably some of the weirdest and most brutally graphic scenes I've also seen in sentai so far...
Yeah I didn't really like the love triangle either. Two of them had major boundary issues imo and the other one apart from the epilogue didn't really want anything to do with the love triangle anyway.
Great! But you just forgot one of the most memorable scenes of all times: when Ryu and Guy trade drinks in a bar (Guy asks for milk and Ryu whisky, then they trade it). Awesome!!!

Basically, as the name states its a song about how a heart is like an egg, fragile and easy to break. However, it is a symbol of life, when nurtured and loved. Sometimes it breaks and cracks, but it can bring new life and love. If you are wondering about what it means. I had the honor of watching Jetman when I was in my pre teens. And it was a great story.

Listening to Jetman's theme and it's stuck for the day? How about a lifetime? In 2017 I was humming the theme while going through airplanes on vacation to and from Sweden. It's that catchy of an earworm. "The Jetman suits are weird as looking like they wear diapers like Super-man" Dude, have you SEEN Changeman? BRA (Battle Ready Armor) motif much? And also, most of the cockpit was reused and redressed for Zyuranger.
Watched Jetman when I was a kid. Truly brings back good memories! Jetman should have their own remake or a movie or something. Their storyline were impressive!
Jetman is not the darkest Sentai but I would consider it one of the more dramatic ones. It's more character centric Sentai out there with it's love triangles and character interactions. While it still cheezy due to being an older Sentai it still has something for everyone.
In the Philippines, this sentai series called Jetman is also as popular as other sentai like Bioman, Fiveman, Maskman, etc. It was Aired in Philippines in 1990’s together with other similar sentai but there is some version of sentai being release in earlier decades like Bioman. Sentai like Jetman really brings back so much memories as I watched it as a child and on elementary school... I remember going home in rush from playing outside just to watched it. Anyway I still remember the ending especially the moment I saw Gai being stab and told my self: “ yeah I remember that ending “..... probably one of the saddest ending in sentai universe..

Well, Jetman ain't the darkest...I mean Liveman's pretty dark compared to Jetman (and I'm speaking as a guy whose first exposure to Sentai is Jetman) and Dairanger's pretty damn dark too (considering that the distant finale showing that the war against the Gouram ain't over....even after Daijinryu had forced both sides to stop fighting under the threat of...well, the world getting nuked by an angry dragon god.)
I just finished binge watching Jetman, so here’s my thoughts on it. I don’t really consider it a love triangle because technically, Ryuu was NOT in love with Kaori, Kaori was NOT in love with Gai. Gai only pursued Kaori because she was probably the first woman to reject him, which I don’t think he’s used to. Yes, I know, Ryu and Kaori got married at the end but still I don’t consider this a love triangle. to be honest, I was excited when Ryu and Rie were introduced because I thought it was cool that there was going a couple straight away but nope….I was hoping when they were reunited she would be brought back to the base. Yet again, nope. I think Ryu and Rie actually had more chemistry than Ryu and Kaori. If anything, I would say that Gray, Ryu and Maria/ Rie was more of love triangle because they were both in love with the same woman. Speaking of Kaori, I think you or someone else pointed it out. Which annoys me about the Sentai girls, especially the one from the older generation, since I noticed with Mei, and I started to notice this with Lin and now, Kaori. When it comes to fighting, I prefer the PR girls, because they can hold their own. It annoys me that Sentai girls always seem to have to rely on the guys, like they’re damsel in distress, even though, they’re fighting. Guys have muscular strength, yes. Girls lack in the department but they make for it in grace, agility and nimbleness. I wish they would portray that in the fighting scenes.

I think Raita's character is good, he has several childhood struggles and insecurities the he kept during growing with finally overcoming it in his character episodes. His crush for Kaori seems like of a short term infatuation outlet because of his frustration of him and his childhood friend turned love being far apart Ako's sub plot of dreaming to be a japanese Idol, I really liked if they delve more into her resolve and not just tacked it in at the final episode

after watching some jetman i can see where the character archs for mmpw came from. I can see a little bit of jason, trini, billy, kimberly, and zack in these 5.
There are a few thing I like to add to Jetman, 1.) the girl who piloted Jet Garuda, Kanna from the Dark Dimension was also the Actress who Played Pink Mask/ Momoko in Maskman. Kanako Maeda 2.) I commented about the jetman ending theme called, Heart is an egg. Who is sung by Kageyama Hironobu and what it is about basically and 3.) Its a ironic fact that Yuki Gai, amost died (and actually died but was revived) only to actually just be killed by a simple mugger. (who and added irony that the mugger actor, was also Black Condor's Suit Actor) which makes it, Gai got killed by himself or he killed himself in an untententional way of putting it, that not actually a part of the story. I love the jetman story it is one of the best sentai stories of the 90's also Toshihide Wakamatshu/ Gai Yuki's is a breakaway character of the story. Glad you enjoyed jetman too.

the idea of having 2 generations in the same show was a huge mistake, idk if someone agrees with me but if only the otoya side of the story was more like a movie or a V-cinema it could make the idea of "a careless but with good heart person became the lord of evil and curse the initial fate of his son, so his son must brake the chain of destiny and surpass his father" a more grounded and organized one
All Sentai series are dark, no doubt about it. But Jetman got so many storylines and character development that we really couldn't find in some previous Sentai series that we watched as kids. As such, we were craving for more and really excited to see the next episode. The love triangles therein was far more interesting than that in X-Men between Cyclops-Jean Grey-Wolverine and Jean Grey-Cyclops-Emma Frost,
I remember when red and pink had starting a love interest while black is also in love with pink. Also the last episode when black condor got stabbed by a thief

I’ve been watching Jetman recently and I’ve got to episode 39 and been loving it. I found out about the theme about a few years prior and am sadly just now getting around to watching it-but I’m glad I did.
Fun fact: The Team B Jetman's commander is also a voice actor that followed the steps of fellow Toku actors turned VA like Jouji Nakata and Naoya Uchida , Hideaki Tezuka.. Actually Liveman was the darkest Series in Super Sentai being that it was the last show made during the Showa Era thou I guess u can say that few other sentai series from the Hesei era are dark but to the same level as Liveman or Jetman

Go back and watch Liveman again and then watch Jetman then tell me Liveman wasnt darker then any other super sentai show put there. @@djray9149 I watch both series long time ago so I don't remember the details but as far as I know prof bias don't kill himself but he died from old age since his former general Dr kemp rejected him from using his brain in some sorted. Villain turn good and helping defeated the main villain is not something new and can be found in other sentai series. Dark series mean it have some disturbing scene or appropriate to watch for some. Jetman maybe look like a soap opera but then not all soap opera are made for kid. Remember super sentai target audience is for kid after all so having all this cigarette, gambling and alcohol may be considered as appropriate and to dark for children show. I don't see how villain turn good helping defeated main villain is consider as dark and there are some other sentai series have to carried themselves too without any guide from proper guidance. Don't forget in Jetman tranza become insane in his final day and end up in mental institution as a human. This never happened in order villain in sentai series and making the villain as human in mental facilities look more darker then just to kill it.

He then met a sick girl which he fall in love too but then after he regain his memory back he kill her in cold blood which pretty dark to me and the scene of gai final moments in wedding is pretty dark too. Jetman do have lot of dark moment. Well liveman have lot of violence and killing too but that pretty standard in many other sentai series.

Agreed. Among all, Jetman remains as one of the darkest series of all Sentai. Plus the plots are pretty much too heavy for kids at times as well

I like to mention that part of the influence for the suit design for Jetman was the anime, science ninja team Gatchaman.

Choujin Sentai Jetman is my second favorite super Sentai series next to Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan I saw both when I was a kid
I watched this series as a kid in real time screening in the Philippines.. I must say the story is tight AF..
Same here, it was alwasy one of my favorite Sentai series being a Filipino, and they did not skip on any of the dark themes

after watching some jetman i can see where the character archs for mmpw came from. I can see a little bit of jason, trini, billy, kimberly, and zack in these 5.
I take exception to you bashing Kamen Rider Kiva. It is a very fun watch, if you can follow the split timeline.
There are a few thing I like to add to Jetman, 1.) the girl who piloted Jet Garuda, Kanna from the Dark Dimension was also the Actress who Played Pink Mask/ Momoko in Maskman. Kanako Maeda 2.) I commented about the jetman ending theme called, Heart is an egg. Who is sung by Kageyama Hironobu and what it is about basically and 3.) Its a ironic fact that Yuki Gai, amost died (and actually died but was revived) only to actually just be killed by a simple mugger. (who and added irony that the mugger actor, was also Black Condor's Suit Actor) which makes it, Gai got killed by himself or he killed himself in an untententional way of putting it, that not actually a part of the story. I love the jetman story it is one of the best sentai stories of the 90's also Toshihide Wakamatshu/ Gai Yuki's is a breakaway character of the story. Glad you enjoyed jetman too.
i remember accidentally stumbling upon this series when i was surfing asian channels when i was a kid. i was at the episode where the rangers were being hunted down and turned into stone. i watched for a bit then changed channels since i didnt understand what they were talking about. up until this day i kept thinking about that episode and luckily i found this

the idea of having 2 generations in the same show was a huge mistake, idk if someone agrees with me but if only the otoya side of the story was more like a movie or a V-cinema it could make the idea of "a careless but with good heart person became the lord of evil and curse the initial fate of his son, so his son must brake the chain of destiny and surpass his father" a more grounded and organized one
Jetman Theme was a saving force.
I always wondered about the connection between Jetman and Gatchaman. Since yknow both are teams with bird motifs and similar uniforms and all.

All Sentai series are dark, no doubt about it. But Jetman got so many storylines and character development that we really couldn't find in some previous Sentai series that we watched as kids. As such, we were craving for more and really excited to see the next episode. The love triangles therein was far more interesting than that in X-Men between Cyclops-Jean Grey-Wolverine and Jean Grey-Cyclops-Emma Frost,
I remember when red and pink had starting a love interest while black is also in love with pink. Also the last episode when black condor got stabbed by a thief
Watch it in the early 90´s when I was 5 or 6. Never forgot it. I´m now 31.

i watched this sentai with my classmates when iwas in high school in 1994 those were the fun years
I would have liked some discussion on the mechs. I really like their design and I’ve seen some awesome scenes from their battles. The video didn’t even mention the apparent second mech the team gets.
I've not watched any Sentai, but this has always been pretty high on my list of series to check out, so I'm sure I'll get to it. I just wish they'd do some R4 Sentai DVD releases so I had any easy way of watching it.
Okay,but Gai was pretty much one of the best characters in Sentai.

Jetman is definitely one of the more darker Sentai series but it's definitely a series worth watching.

I’ve been watching Jetman recently and I’ve got to episode 39 and been loving it. I found out about the theme about a few years prior and am sadly just now getting around to watching it-but I’m glad I did.
Fun fact:
The Team B Jetman's commander is also a voice actor that followed the steps of fellow Toku actors turned VA like Jouji Nakata and Naoya Uchida , Hideaki Tezuka.. Interestingly they will followed by MAO, Hiroshi Tsuchida and Masaya Tatsukaze..later on.
Also all of them voice din d Gundam at some point..
so is there any relation between Tatsunoko and Toei behind in Jetman's production due to the motifs being similar to Gatchaman? or is it just a homage?

Actually Liveman was the darkest Series in Super Sentai being that it was the last show made during the Showa Era thou I guess u can say that few other sentai series from the Hesei era are dark but to the same level as Liveman or Jetman
Nahh Jetman is much more darker. I never see any sentai series that have sentai member go to the pub, drinking, gambling and smoking cigarette.

Liveman was darker then Jetman do to how Liveman carried it's self and how it wasnt the super sentai that killed the main villian but the villian was killed by there own hand. A Poetic Justice ending. Plus just because Gai from Jetman smoked when to a pub and gambled doesn't make it a dark series but more of a soap opera. Go back and watch Liveman again and then watch Jetman then tell me Liveman wasnt darker then any other super sentai show put there. Also if you read my comment I mention Jetman as a dark series but it's more tame then Liveman
@@djray9149 I watch both series long time ago so I don't remember the details but as far as I know prof bias don't kill himself but he died from old age since his former general Dr kemp rejected him from using his brain in some sorted. Villain turn good and helping defeated the main villain is not something new and can be found in other sentai series. Dark series mean it have some disturbing scene or appropriate to watch for some. Jetman maybe look like a soap opera but then not all soap opera are made for kid. Remember super sentai target audience is for kid after all so having all this cigarette, gambling and alcohol may be considered as appropriate and to dark for children show. I don't see how villain turn good helping defeated main villain is consider as dark and there are some other sentai series have to carried themselves too without any guide from proper guidance. Don't forget in Jetman tranza become insane in his final day and end up in mental institution as a human. This never happened in order villain in sentai series and making the villain as human in mental facilities look more darker then just to kill it.
@@wakakabravo7998 true thou Prof Bias was only killed because the two science students knew what was goin to happen them and then when dr Kemp regain his sense along with the other victims of Prof. Bias work then attack to somehow get free from their fate. Thou in Jetman tranza when his memories locked away he enjoyed being human but when his memories return to him that's when he hated being human thou it is true he was lock away in a mental institution as human but he doesnt remember being the villain he once was. Thou i will say Gai being killed by a mugger and walking to his friends wedding then bleeding out and dying there is pretty dark. Thou i still say both series were dark in there own respects but it doesn't take away how both series were awesome and different.
@@djray9149 I don't remember tranza become human before he defeated. The one who became human and lost his memory is radiguat after he get banished from Queen vyram. He then met a sick girl which he fall in love too but then after he regain his memory back he kill her in cold blood which pretty dark to me and the scene of gai final moments in wedding is pretty dark too. Jetman do have lot of dark moment. Well liveman have lot of violence and killing too but that pretty standard in many other sentai series.
