Hey! I have some tips as someone who's worked on a couple animal masks myself, in case it would be helpful to the creator of this video or anyone who's following it - -When working with materials like paper mache and air dry clay to make a mask, it's incredibly important to very, very thoroughly seal every inch of the surface with a non-toxic and waterproof sealant - masks will get wet with sweat and moisture from your breath, and with paper-based materials this creates the perfect breeding ground for mold. This can lead to both a very dangerous cosplay piece and the ruin of something you put a lot of time and effort into! -I highly recommend looking into the construction of masks with mesh materials and/or wire - many old fursuit head tutorials will use plastic mesh, which is inexpensive and carries less potential concerns than paper products. Radula Castion here on youtube shows some behind-the scenes bits on creating wire-based heads. Using foam like in modern fursuit head tutorials is an option, but a very pricey one and there's a learning curve to sculpting with it. I'd only invest in foam if making a piece you plan to get A LOT of use out of. -Another commenter already pointed this out, but maximizing ventilation I very important. I'd recommend placing holes both in the nostrils as well as at the inner base of the ears if and when possible when creating heads like this. A cheap computer fan with a battery pack can be installed in the nose cavity to increase ventilation - ensure that the side facing you is the side that blows air in when you install it! Nose holes are especially important here, as the fan will be drawing air in from outside through them. All of that aside, this came out beautifully! This mask blows my mind, especially considering the inexpensive materials used. You perfectly captured the wild look of boar fur using the yarn wefts, it's incredible to look at.
@@SureFang Absolutely! If I come up with any more really important notes I'll edit my original comment. As less important tips, you can use something like buckram for the portion of the eyes you see through - it's fabric, so there's no worry of pointy bits. If you have to paint it to get it the right color, you can use a skewer or toothpick to poke the still wet paint out of the fine holes. Also, if you have a small fan lying around, you can set your head so the air blows through the neck hole for a couple hours after wear - this'll help ensure it dries out inside. I totally encourage checking out fursuit head tutorials! Even if you don't follow them to a T, you can get lots of good ideas on materials and techniques from them. Best of luck on your future endeavors!
Thank you so, so, so much!! I want to create two of these mask (one of Inosuke and other of an OC) and I'm in a really tight budget, the mold was the thing that worried me the most! I will check this video and this comment a lot. Thanks for the wisdom!!
okay my imagination went a bit far, BUT imagine modern kindergarten au where they do crafts, inosuke made this while the others made a more normal pirate/cowboy hats and then ever since he made this he just wears it everyday, the teacher told him he cant wear it all the time bc it's scaring the other kids but he just got angry so they let him

Tips for improving the mask (For Filipino watchers as well) -instead of using Air Dry Clay which is expensive here in philippines, you can use regular oil based clay and paper mache it, then cover it with super glue and sand it which is more cheaper. (Oil based clay cost like 40 cents here in Phillipines) -Instead of using Elmers Glue, you can use Wood Glue to make it more stronger and durable (i used Stikwell 250Ml and it cost $1 = P50) - 4:10 , if you accidentally pop the balloon, the balloon will stick and it will be harder to remove but theres a way to remove it. Take an Alcohol spray and use lemon juice instead then scrape it slowly. - Instead of using black mesh which is harder to find, you can use Women's black stockings. - for the Yarns, i used 6 Love Knots Acrylic Yarn 50Grams (Light Gray), cost about 45 cents each.
My boyfriend and I are trying to make this for the past few days using your tutorial! Thank you so much. Though what I really love about this video is your humor!

This has to be the most anime accurate look of Inosuke's mask. The ones online look so inaccurate.
