    I installed a similar hand guard kit and I had to design and print a spacer for the front brake resiviour. It solves all the spacing issues. Plus removing the black plastic covers on the levers.

      Nice. I recently removed the weighted bar ends and as a result, I was able to change the angle of the hand guards to actually protect my knuckles from branches/brush.

    Great video with good explanation of some challenges you encountered. I have the factory protection kit and I went with the H&B hand guard protectors to protect the plastic ones that break on contact. What I realized after installing the hand guard protectors is that because they tie directly the handlebar clamp it seems like that it removes the possibility of changing the tilt on the handlebars. I have no desire to change the tilt at this time but I thought it was interesting the guards would prevent this in the future. I really like the look of your back rack, but after dropping my bike on the trail I appreciate the integrated handles on the factory rack. Everything is a trade!

      Thanks for your comments Kevin, your last statement made me think about it and I might research and get those soft handles for the rear rack attachment points. Looks like "Pro Eagle" makes one. I'm planning on bringing my bike into work and laying it down and lifting it a couple times to see how easy or not it is for me to right her. I'll try to film it.

    To be clear, install the she skid plate first, then the crash bars?

    Well, I'm glad I didn't use sw-motech's lever protection, but Barkbusters' solution. For Tuareg fits set originally used for Honda Africa Twin, it has literally same parts as sw-motech solution, except plastic. And instead of internal weights i used barkbuster's external weights, that allowed me to move assembly more to inside, so no drilling needed and i can set handguards more freely.

    • @ocdmoto
      @ocdmoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good for you Nath, Barkbusters seem to be the defacto goto hand guards.

      So you used barkbuster from africa twin and its compatible with Tuareg 660 ?

    • @nathal
      @nathal 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@viliamandrasov7609 yes, with additional external weights Barkbuster B-066. I did not used weights from Afrika Twin BB set.

    I have installed sw motech handguards with mixing some original parts and sw motech parts

      Nice. I think I did the same, but can’t remember 100%.

    Do the crash bars and skid plate actually mount to the engine itself?

      I honestly can’t remember, sorry.

    🤔 what does sw-motech said to these mounting issues?

    • @ocdmoto

      I never asked, once I got everything installed, I just moved on.

    I think you installed the hand guards incorrectly. That black cap that plugs into your handlebar is not needed with the guards, mine screwed in without any drilling and sans that black cap, and was simple once I realized that, it all lined up so to speak

      Hey Raph, you’re probably right, but I think I tried removing the bar end weights and it still didn’t fit. Nonetheless, I’m not touching it until I have to, cause it’s working fine now. Honestly, I’m not sure why there are weighted bar ends at all on bikes. Thanks for the comment though. Take care.

      yea I removed my ends and it fit with the shorter bolt provided (if you remove the weight the stock bolt is too long etc) anyways great vid!

    For the hand guards try to remove handlebar weights

      Thanks for the suggestion Kartal Sen, but it took me so long making it all work/fit, I’m not touching it until I absolutely have to.

    i cant f figure out how to get the crash bars on with the skid plate nothing lines up

    • @ocdmoto
      @ocdmoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      SP, it’s been a while since I installed everything, but don’t recall having any issues with that part of the install. I remember there was an extra hanger and a spacer that needed to be installed to make everything fit correctly. I think I recall the spacer was necessary if you were installing it with there crash bars, but not if you were to only install the bash plate, or vice versa. If you further explain what’s happening I may be able to help out. However, I think I left the directions at work so I might not be able to verify until Monday, sorry.
